Best Breakfast Tacos in Grand Rapids

Basalt is a Houston transplant from Texas into West Michigan. And wow, what a gastronomic hole this fills. If it isn’t already, this restaurant needs to be on your vegan radar for Grand Rapids.

Basalt is a newer restaurant that provides a flavor of Tex Mex that I have not experienced since visiting Texas. We are extremely lucky to have this as an option in Grand Rapids and, thankfully, with a menu that is expansively vegan.

Just about everything on the menu has a vegan option. From asking the manager, I confirmed they use Just Egg and house made vegan chorizo for many of their vegan substitutes.

We ordered a variety of breakfast tacos that were all fantastic. The house-made corn tortillas are some of the best shells I’ve ever had. The savory and creamy qualities of all the tacos with the crispy crunch of the onions or the hash browns was amazing. It’s a meal that I was immediately looking forward to having again once finishing.

I highly recommend Basalt for a plant-based breakfast, and I hope this place becomes synonymous with tasty vegan good in Grand Rapids in the community. Check it out!

Worst Restaurant Owner Experience Ever!!!

Literalky kicked out today for looking at a book near our table. The owner Steve, if that's his real name, is cruel and disrespectful of customers. Modifications are not allowed. We used to go every Sunday. No waiting area so we stood by the door to wait for our table and he yelled at us to move. When we calmly shared our frustrations with his behavior he canceled our meals and kicked us out! We were shocked! His behavior is irrational and cruel. He embarrassed us for no good reason. Worst restaurant experience I've ever had. He has zero concern or respect for customers. I feel bad for the two good waiters, the woman and the gentleman with red hair. Owner lied directly to our faces as he talked over us to cover up the poor way he treated us mutiple times we came in as regular customers. Don't trust he word he says. Dishonest and the lacking integrity to admit his mistakes. I wish him growth as a human being. ☹️

Good but a little over the top greasy

The food is really good but the menu options are a little too greasy / not that fresh feeling. Ex the vegan breakfast burrito is surrounded by v cheese on the outside of the tortilla and has v cheese in it, and it is probably 3 servings of v cheese and a large % (if not over) of DV max sodium intake. I would still go again probably tho.

Vegan Mexican Breakfast!

The only thing better than Vegan Mexican. Is Vegan Mexican for breakfast! You can sub vegan options on most everything. They have two kinds of chorizo, chicken, just egg and cheese (all vegan). Breakfast burrito was excellent!

This place is an instant favorite!

Pros: Every vegan option you could want

Cons: Expensive (but everywhere is now)

Best vegan breakfast

I had the Migas with Just Egg, vegan cheese, and vegan green chorizo. It’s one of the best vegan breakfasts in GR hands down.

Would give five star if I could.

The food was a little salty but delicious and they had a lot of vegan options! The vegan options weren’t listed on the menu until you go in to select your taco type.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Vegan comfort food , Vegan cheese

Cons: A little pricey. $15 for rice and two tacos, Vegan options were an up charge.
