Good and fresh - Edit
Honestly this place was probably the healthiest option on the island. They even have vegan mayo! I loved the chickpea salad sandwich

Clearly marked vegan options. Would be great if substitutions were available on the non-vegan meals…

Good food, poor service - Edit
Good, and real, vegetarian options. Not just "we'll take off the meat" ones. I had the Italian Sandwich (grilled veggies) and it was quite good. Fries were average.
Read moreHowever, the service was terrible. We were seated, he brought me tea, and then forgot about us. Finally came to take the order, and disappeared. At the end they cleared the table, of everything including the condiment set up that had been there, and never brought our check.
So, four stars for the food and food options, two stars for the service.
Pros: Lots of vegetarian options., Food is good.
Cons: Pricey, Poor service

Nice lunch - Edit
We enjoyed the chickpea salad sandwich and the veggie stuffed avocado. I was impressed with the avocado as they put hummus on it first. Then the veggies!! Perfect combo:). The chickpea salad sandwich was good, but nothing I couldn’t make at home.

The only vegan friendly place in Avalon!? - Edit
Avalon does not have the normal vegan spread that LA prides but Cafe Metropole was the only place that had any vegan/veggie options on their menu in the area. Decent sandwich and excellent cold pressed juice. Very pricey but all that I could find!!

So much avocado 💚 - Edit
We had the veggie burger (make sure to ask for the one w/o cheese) , the avocado toast (my favorite!) and stuffed chickpea avocado. This is my favorite spot for a vegan meal in Avalon since they do it so well. Also they make fresh OJ for the best tasting mimosa! None of the salads are vegan but are customizable. They offer chickpeas as the protein

The chickpea smash sandwich was excellent as well as the veggie panini. The staff was very friendly and knew their vegan options like the back of their hand.

Best healthy food and amazing juice bar!! - Edit
Cafe Metropole is a chic, cute cafe with a gorgeous outdoor dining area to enjoy the yummy food on offer. Although not fully veggie/vegan, Cafe Metropole has amazing panini’s including vegan options, salads, pita wraps and incredible fresh pressed juices. Very eco minded as well, with juices and drinks served in compostable cups with paper straws and also a selection of wine and beer on tap. Highly recommended for healthy eaters, vegetarians and vegans.

Fav Vegan Lunch Spot - Edit
While on Catalina Island, my husband & I ate at Cafe Metropole for lunch two days in a row! Get the smashed chickpea sandwich, it does not disappoint! There were several other vegan items on the menu for breakfast or lunch & most items could be made vegan too. We will definitely be coming back!

Great service and great food - Edit
We got the balsamic avo toast and it was super good! The people who work here are really nice. We also got the green machine smoothie bowl. The granola is not vegan (honey) and it has a honey drizzle so make sure you ask for it without. The woman working added extra fruit for us which was super nice! I will say the smoothie bowl was a little icy. This has been the most vegan friendly place we have eaten at Catalina so far!
Read moreEdit: We came back the next day and had the chickpea salad sandwich, LET ME TELL YOU IT WAS SO GOOD! I don’t even like chickpeas and I was so into it. The vegetable panini with hummus was also good, pretty basic but it’s vegan food on the island.

Life saver! - Edit
Would normally rate this place 3 stars but given the fact there’s not much else on the island it gets four stars. I got the smashed chickpea sandwich and my bf got the veggie stack. They have vegan mayo but not vegan cheese was tasty and a real life saver!

Vegan-friendly and delicious - Edit
Upon first glance it may look like there are just a few vegan options but tell the staff you are vegan and they'll reveal most of their dishes can be made vegan. They even have vegan mayo and cheese to do so! We enjoyed vegan street corn, a panini sandwich, and vegan tuna-salad type sandwich. It was all delicious and came with your choice of side dish too. I'd highly recommend this!

Cute vegan-friendly cafe in Avalon. - Edit
This cafe was really cute. There were two options that could be made vegan, a sandwich and a salad. I loved the salad, the sandwich was ok. I did really appreciate their beautiful outside terrace on that sunny day and the friendly staff. Some live tropical music in the background got me in the island mood.

Relatively New Ownership - Edit
In speaking with the owner, it turns out that she bought Cafe Metropole in the last year or so. I frequent Avalon and it is apparent she has changed this place for the better. There are a few vegan options on the menu and she and the staff are quite knowledgeable and accommodating of any dietary need. Without even asking, she tells me about their efforts to reduce cross-contamination. They are now doing an avocado toast breakfast and they have great fresh cold pressed juices and shots. For lunch, I recommend their vegetarian panini.

Great little place - Edit
Very veggie friendly with fresh produce and a gluten free fryer for sweet potato fries. Menu is small and mainly sandwiches and salads but has all the staples for a good veggie panini or sandwich. (Gluten free bread is available)

Unexpected Pleasure - Edit
I'm here in Catalina for just the day and didn't prepare any food. I hopped on here and saw that this place has felafel's and I was like ohhhh yeah. I soon as I ordered, the cashier notice I was only getting vegan options and stopped me to ask if I was a vegan because the white flat bread has whey in it. I knew I was in the right place. It was a great felafel! (BEWARE PICTURED FELAFEL ABOVE IS WITH THE WHITE FLAT BREAD AND THEREFORE NOT VEGAN!)

Vegan Mecca for Catalina - Edit
I'm a vegan from the South Bay who came over to Avalon for the Memorial Day Weekend. After a day and a half of bean and rice burritos from a near by Mexican restaurant I stumbled across the Metropole Cafe. Wow was I glad! The owner is very nice and offers some great vegan options such as the soy chorizo breakfast burrito with avocados and soy cheese. That was a tasty, hearty meal. The Metropole also offers a vegan pizza with assorted veggies and soy cheese that is phenomenal. I also highly recommend their homemade lemonade. I hope The Metropole continues to offer vegan dishes as they will be my first stop everytime I come to Catalina. I'd like to give the Metropole Cafe 5 cows but happycow.com won't let me because they serve meat. A+
