Good but not a home run - Edit
Walked from ocean park to VSJ for cafe Berlin and it was good, but a little underwhelming. The service was exceptional and the drinks were v tasty. The food was pretty good - we tried the vegan burger and the tofu criolla. I thought the rice was the true star of the tofu dish; the tofu itself was too soft. Overpriced for what you get.

Delicious! - Edit
Had the empanada last vegano and they were delicious. Then had the Mexican vegan GF plate which was soy shaving that my husband couldn’t believe it wasn’t chicken. (It wasn’t) the sauces were great with both of them and the pesto fried rice was so flavorful.

Pros: Good vegan and GF selections, Nice staff

Delicious vegan options - Edit
We had an excellent meal at Cafe Berlin!
Read moreFirst of all, there’s a number of vegan options including a dessert option, all clearly labeled, which I really appreciated. The entrees are on the pricier side, but portions are generous.
We ordered the passionfruit and guanabana fresh juices for drinks, and were not disappointed. My previous experience with the latter was one that was saccharine sweet, however, Cafe Berlin seems to be very conservative on the sugar in that regard, and the drink really let the flavors shine.
For food, we chose the criollo tofu and the spicy vegan tacos. The criollo tofu was good, the sauce was great, however, the rice and beans side that came with it was just fantastic (I’m still thinking about it two weeks after)! The spicy vegan tacos also came with a great spicy sauce and were overall pretty good.
Overall, I’d give this 5 stars just for the amazing drinks and the great rice/beans side that was just out of this world. Highly recommended for any veg*ns wandering around Old San Juan.

Good vegan options and good food - Edit
This was my second time visiting Cafe Berlin. The atmosphere is nice and the food is good. I had the veggie mofungo both times and it was good (but not great). I did order their vegan carrot coconut cream cake that is made by the owner, and that was delicious!

Cafe Berlin is def my go to for Puerto Rican vegan options! I’ve been for both breakfast and dinner menus and it’s always great! Great place to bring your non vegan friends…I’ve done so many times and everyone is always happy! For all the times I’ve been here idk why I only have pics of my most favorite healthy zucchini mint lime drink. I get it every time!

So happy to find vegan options! - Edit
I'd leave five stars if I could. I got the vegan breakfast and really enjoyed it. Homemade vegan guava butter with my toast. Yummy!
Read morePost above is from my first visit in 2019. Came back in 2021 and it was even better than the first time! Photos are from 2021. I got the breakfast bowl and we shared the pancakes; both vegan and delicious. My favorite part was the garlic sauteed spinach but it was a tough choice! Cauliflower pita toast was my second favorite. We also tried a variety of mimosas.
Service was slow but worth it. We're going to try to go again for dinner during our stay in PR. Highly recommend Cafe Berlin!
Updating a second time for 2021, as the vegan breakfast was so good that we had to come back for a vegan dinner later in the week! I got the vegan empanadas as an appetizer. They were absolutely delicious! I also got the Criollo tofu which came with a huge serving of rice and beans and tostones. We were so stuffed from our dinner that we could not eat dessert but got the carrot cake to go. Also shout out to the two vegan ladies from New York that we met while at Cafe Berlin! We exchanged vegan dining experiences and we all agreed that Cafe Berlin is amazing!

This restaurant is a MUST if you're looking for veganized authentic Puerto Rican food. Nice portion size. Very flavorful. Great presentation and customer service! This app won't let me give it 5 stars, but it's definitely 5 stars!

Disappointed - Edit
I ordered the vegan mexican platter which had soy curls in a taco. It was very bland, not spicy at all, and the fried rice that came with it was very bland as well. I did enjoy the empanadas, which is why I gave two stars instead of zero, but Id prefer if they came with the sauce from the mexican platter. I told the manager how dissatisfied I was with the meal, I only had one bite of it, and she only compensated me $4 out of the $26 it cost. Again disappointed about everything. I was looking forward to Cafe Berlin because of the amazing reviews it got, very sad.

Check hours - Edit
I went here in the past, years ago and enjoyed it. I tried to go during my current trips, but they were closed when they were supposed to be open (according to the internet), and there were no hours posted in the door. There’s currently a labor shortage apparently, so you’re likely to need a reservation to know you’ll be able to eat here (or many other spots).

We had a delicious dinner at Cafe Berlin. Our server was new/inexperienced and they were out of the vegan empanadas, but the mojitos were strong and the tofu criollo and vegan mofongo were delicious. Highly recommend.

Cute location - Edit
I had the vegan mofongo, is was filling and tasted delicious. The numerous vegan options are clearly stated on the menu. The staff is very kind and the location is perfect, we sat outside on the terrace overlooking the square. The prices are a bit steep, but there wasn’t much that was cheaper in the area.

Vegan Mofongo - Edit
Stopped here based on Happy Cow reviews while in port from a cruise. Very delicious! The vegan empanadas were light and crispy, and with fresh spinach and mushrooms. The vegan Mofongo was sooo good. I was bummed I couldn’t bring leftovers with me (no microwave on the ship or I would have!) I was excited to see they had vegan desserts too since dessert was hard to come by on the cruise. But they only had carrot cake available. Bought it to go. This was the only disappointing part of the meal. It’s not typical carrot cake—No frosting and it’s more like a spice cake. Would have skipped that had I seen it before paying. One star off because of the dessert and $. It’s pretty expensive. Mofongo is advertised all over Old San Juan for under $10 and its $22 at Cafe Berlin. Worth it as part of my cruise experience though. The staff are also very friendly.

Fresh food. Vegan memu - Edit
I love how fresh everything tasted. I got the vegan breakfast. It wad tofu scramble (needed salt), potatoes and toast with guava butter that rocked my world! Note: the online menu has the banana pancakes listed as vegan, but they're not. Service is slow, but lovely people. Oh and their coffee is fabulous.

Long wait time - Edit
I was really excited to check out this gem as they offered vegan and vegetarian meals. They only had about 1/4 of the meals available on a sat morning. I’m sure there was a good explanation for that but it was a little disappointing. My friend has ordered eggs Benedict and I got an omelette with vegan cheese that was suppose to be served with mushroom and veggies. After a 35 minute wait we have finally gotten our eggs and to my disappointment the only veggies that were in my omelette were raw onions that were just recklessly thrown in there. I asked the waitress what happened and she said they only had zucchini that they could put in there. I politely said thank you and didn’t eat the omelette. My friends food was cold but he just sucked it up and ate it. I went around the corner to bien papayas and got an Omelette there that I waited 5 mins for.

Vegan Mofongo - Edit
They had a bunch of great vegan options that still allow you to have some of the Puerto Rican inspired dishes. They have a vegan mofongo with tofu and a red sauce, and other options. The location is beautiful and you can just see a portion of the fort from the outside tables. Great service and good atmosphere.
