Go the market! - Edit
This wonderful place, my favorite veg restaurant in Madrid (perhaps on Earth), isnlocated in a working market that, along with fishmongers and butchers (yuck) has some cool eateries. Here they have a menu of the day for lunch with starters usually a delicious fresh salad (beat I've ever had) or a soup and a main dish plus water, organic wine or beer- all for under 10€. Lovely vegan dessert included for just 12€ total. Very nice waitress and chef. All vegan, practically everything sourced from that very market. I would take non-veg friends here- so good and not weird concotions (althoigh beautiful and inventive). I went twice for linch. At night they open as well but call in advance because they are experimenting with hours. Highly recommended.

Creative and fancy food - Edit
This is an unassuming place in the market, with a surprisingly creative and ambitious menu. I loved it! We booked a table for lunchtime, but it was actually very quiet when it opened. There's a lunch set menu (2 courses for €9, an extra €2 for dessert), with only one dish available for each course, so you don't get to choose. We had a watermelon and avocado tartare in almond cream - I hate watermelon, but it combined to make a beautiful dish. The main course was a little smaller than I would have liked, but it was a flavoursome smoked black rice. And the dessert was amazing: panna cotta! It was absolute perfection. A glass of wine is included in the price, and we had some bread too.
Read moreWe had a lot of these set menus in Spain, but this was the most ambitious and impressive. Presentation was great, as were the flavour combinations. Service was excellent too, and the staff took the trouble to explain everything to us in English. I'd love to go back!
Pros: Fancier than most lunch set menus, Excellent value for money

Excellent dishes - Edit
Excellent vegan restaurant located at the Anton Martin market. Menu is approx. 50%/50% raw/cooked. Mostly using organic food, they always try to include seasonal products. Pretty decent price considering the quality of their dishes: there were 3 of us for dinner, we shared 4 starters and a salad, then had 3 main courses, 3 desserts and drinks: 18,00€/each. The only con I could point out is the market was kind of empty and lifeless, only this reastaurant and a closer bar open at night (and the bar closed a few minutes after we started having dinner)
Read morePros: excellent tasty dishes, mostly organic + seasonal, good range
Cons: kind of weird atmosphere inside the mark

Very nice but a bit busy and rushed - Edit
I popped in here for lunch. It was nice. Food was really tasty but probably not enough of it and I felt a bit rushed owing to the busyness of the place. Menu was good and OK priced. There cheeses looked nice but I didn't try them. Perhaps next time if I go back but no great pull to do so.

tasty food, good range, great service - Edit
Nice place in a good little spot that serves a range of tasty food, with plenty of varied options. Everything is vegan, and they even have vegan wine available. The spaghetti meal I had was absolutely phenomenal, and the food my family had was yum as well. Reasonable price (considering the vegan premium)

Interesting in a few respects - Edit
It was a bit off-putting to realise that despite their fancy website this isn´t exactly a restaurant, but more of a bar inside the local market. In addition, it feels like it´s in the way, as it´s right by the stairs instead of in a more "isolated" area. Even though it´s on the first floor, you may get second-hand smoke in your face if smokers outside don´t take a few steps out of the premises, that's how close it is.
Read moreIn terms of the food, I tried all three tapas, which I enjoyed, especially the lettuce wrapped in some dried strawberry with a great sauce. I also tried the raw food pasta, a bit insipid and nothing special in my view, and would have benefitted from more pesto. I was still hungry and above all curious, so I gave the selection of raw cheeses a try. Glad I did, because they were nothing short of a remarkable creation, with fresh figs and all. The dessert was ok, but by then I felt that having strawberry and orange again (these were present in my previous dish) was kind of repetitive, especially since the menu itself is quite limited. On the whole I thought I got a meal that was up to my standards, not dirt-cheap but reasonable considering they were organic products... only they are not! As I was leaving Botanique I had a look at the window and I could see a few items, which didn´t appear to be organic at all.. plus some sort of chocolate brought to you by a death corporation such as Nestlé.. definitely not what I thought I was getting.. It feels especially deceptive given that they really market themselves as organic, for crying out loud it's even painted on their wall...
Interesting, creative cuisine... but leaves a sour-ish taste.

Dear Mick,
Read moreFirst of all, thanks to visit us and taste our cuisine. We are a new gastronomy concept in a food market. Sorry if you hope to find a traditional restaurant. We offer our cuisine in a station of the market. We work hard everyday in order to improve and offer our guest a high quality of food, with seasonal products that we change as in a market concept. Maybe when you visit us we was working with strawberry more than other fruits, based in the season. Now for example we work with peach and watermelon, for summer. We take noted your comments about variety in order to improve it. Respect smokers, we are in a non smoking area...is forbidden in all market. We do not understand well how from upstairs you smell strongly the smoke from outside. Most of our products are organics, and always try to use a high level percent of these products, we use a creole raw cocoa, and products from craft producers. Thanks for your comments and we ensure you that our commitment is to offer the best products and a good service.
We would like to see you again in a next future in Botanique.

good but where's the food? - Edit
I don't know, maybe it was an off day, but we went here for lunch and found this place good but not great. The greeting wasn't particularly welcoming and we weren't given any option other than the daily special. For starters, we were presented with a very tiny portion of bread, comically tiny, followed by a very delicious gazpacho. The main consisted of polenta cubes with a minimal veggie topping (i.e., not much other than the polenta). I'm a vegetarian. I eat lots of vegetables. Our impression here was that we were being served a budget-stretching meal, rather cheap. Granted, 9 Euro is not expensive by city standards, and this included wine, beer or water. Dessert was an extra 2.50 Euro but it was excellent. So I'm giving a qualified review for our mixed experience, and we were not inclined to return.

Delicious and great value - Edit
We had the daily set menu, a delicious gazpacho followed by polenta cubes with a tasty warm salsa and pistachios. Fresh, flavourful and beautifully presented. Also couldn't resist dessert, chocolate cake for hubby and a raw strawberry mousse for me. They also do great juices, the Orange, lemon and mint detox juice was very refreshing.

Unique Botanique - Edit
If you are visiting, you should definitely go here! Not only to have some great food, but also to get a real taste of Madrid.
Read moreThe Anton Martin market managed to retain its traditional character: many people still buy here instead of the supermarket. While some shop owners know their customers since years, other stalls recently opened up to introduce new concepts and products - without becoming totally hipster. It really is a unique atmosphere.
And, as already mentioned in the other reviews, the food is very good, at the right price, served by lovely people.
Pros: A local, neighbourhood-kind of place, Tasty and Original, Very friendly people

Unusual and great food - Edit
I had lunch at Botanique last week during a quick visit to Madrid. The food I ate surprised me in terms of uniqueness and of how good it was!
Read moreI had the lunch menu, which that Wednesday consisted in a delicious vichyssoise and a "crude cannelloni" with guacamole and a filling of tomato, onion, garlic and I don't know what else (accompanied by good salad). I also ordered a dessert, a carob cake (yes, carob, not carrot: it's similar to chocolate, but it's not) which was ok.
All in all, I loved the place: the owner/waiter was super nice, I had a seat from which I could see the kitchen and all the delicious-looking stuff prepared by the cook, the mercado is a nice place... really good!!!
Also, it was cheap: the menu was 9 euro (water or beer included), and the cake was 2.50.
Pros: Unusual food, Good food, Inexpensive
