Little family run eatery serving vegetarian curries. No menu - each diner is served rice, papadom, and several kinds of vegetarian curries. Vegans should specify. Gets busy at night so maybe book ahead. Open Mon-Sun 6:30pm-8:30pm.

Incredible rice and curry - Edit
My favourite rice and curry of the trip in Sri Lanka. Beautiful food and generous portions. They provided 6 or 7 different curries including pumpkin, beetroot, banana flower. It was so good! You will probably need to book ahead.

Not purely vegetarian? - Edit
We arrived at opening and were reassured no milk or egg, we were served whole rice, curries and a coconut chutney. (no popadums).
Read moreVery tasty, easy on the chillies. Halfway thru, the owner asked if we'd like some prawns (?!). Possibly just a friendly offer, as we didn't see any prawns, but at some point a whole cooked fish (?!) emerged from the kitchen to a neighboring table, possibly a regular or a friend.
Water and tea were added to the reasonable bill.
Just saying, the kitchen isn't strictly vegetarian.
Those allergic to seafood - beware.
Pros: Tasty authentic Indian , Not too hot-spicy, Homey atmosphere
Cons: Prawns offered, fish served, Limited hours

Best food we had in Sri Lanka so far! - Edit
We cannot recommend Bookworm Library enough. You don‘t receive a menu there, you get seated and immediately there is a great variety of vegan options of traditional food on your table. The owner is also very nice and does not hesitate to get you more of everything and also offers you a nice lemon tea.

Good for groups - Edit
You may have to book a table in advance as they were turning people away, also closed early, around 8pm. All curries were vegan brought out in little dishes to share.

Cool little place to try - Edit
This place is super cool. It’s just a family run restaurant - outside. They prepare all the food and bring it to the table. No meat served here at all. Customized for vegan. No menu as they bring out rice, popadom, two jackfruit curries, pumpkin curry, Eggplant, chili potato with onion and Dahl. Shame it’s not on the beach so no view but the family are very welcoming and the food was brilliant. My meat eating family all loved it.

A great taste of local food - Edit
I’ve always loved Sri Lankan curries because it’s so easy to find vegan options. This restaurant is quaint and the staff were very hospitable. Felt like I was eating in a local home! 🌱😊

Loved it! - Edit
You have to walk through a little bookstore to find this hidden gem. I asked after vegan curries and found out they all were vegan, at least that night. Amazing flavours, espcially the dahl was superb (not meh and tasteless mush as most of them) and so were everything else. They served six curries in total with red rice and papadum. I’m not a huge fan of lady fingers anonut didn’t wow me this time either. People wrote on TripAdvisor that one should book a table one night in abvance but we were seated right away. I think this is a family run company and the sisters (is suppose) served everyone with a big smile on their faces.

A Must Visit in Hikkaduwa! - Edit
This place is insanely good! All of the food was vegan, we asked about milk, ghee, curd etc & the lovely ladies that work here assured us they just used coconut milk. If you plan on eating here (which you totally should) make sure to pop in on the day to book in as they get fully booked every night. Also make sure to get the ginger tea after!

Great veggie curries - Edit
We went here on recommendation from a fellow traveller. There’s no menu - you just eat the curries you’re given! All vegetarian and I enjoyed them all. Some a little spicy but nothing crazy hot. They offer refills on curries but we were pretty full after the original servings.
