Update: April 19 back again over a year later and pleased to say this place is well established and hammering out delicious food. Got the Sunday fry - incredibly tasty and well done, scramble, potato bread, seitan sausage, butter beans, vegan haggis (pearl barley, lentils and stock)- ate whole lot. Great value and quick despite being absolutely bunged with customers.
----
Went on whistle stop tour whilst visiting family. Intrigued by the (in my opinion, under utilized) idea of a workers co-op, I decided to plunk for a turmeric latte, cake and a Mac n' cheez lunch whilst the rest of the gang ordered coffees and shared an Oreo cake.
Layout wise, its somewhat eccentric but tidy, with the sense of humble means but the money put in what matters. According to family member, these guys eschewed the banking establishment for direct fundraising. This, along with an unusual business structure, often spells the death knell for a biz back home, but pleased to say Bonobo have pulled it off admirably. Even the outdoor area is complete with upcycled wood pallets that grow herbs and raised beds despite the icy sharp coldness of granite city. No heating in upstairs seating area either, but each seat has a blanket and the warm food does the rest.
And on the food, its pretty good - very wholesome, filling and gobs of homegrown leaves. Cake delightful and flavoursome. Sundays see a reduced menu that focuses on the inventive vegan fry.
Gotta say the coffees for our order came slowly but we were hugely compensated with a take away cake box crammed with goodies and a handwritten apology. Charmed and very thankful, the scots surely do not deserve their reputation for meanness but us nordies sure do!
I wish them much success and very much enjoyed the food and the spirit. It looks like they do exercise classes too, and don't open Mondays. Doggies also welcome which seems to be a popular thing to do in Aberdeen.

Lovely place, delicious food - Edit
The place is very nice. It is located in the center of Aberdeen, and it is not expensive at all. It has the nicest garden, where you can eat, while having an amazing view. The food is really good (especially the mac n cheese!), and what's more, they also offer traditional scottish meals (vegan, of course).

Menu? - Edit
Food was good! The layout seems a bit odd though. That is - seating is upstairs, also upstairs is a raised garden outside. However, you have to go up to find if you can get a table/seat. Then you have to go downstairs to the counter to read the menu board - and you pay on ordering. Why no blackboard menu upstairs? It also means that after your meal if you decide to have a coffee and cake the process has to be repeated.

Delicious and Friendly Service - Edit
Love the dessert options and the menu. We came here for breakfast and had a good experience. I had waffles with jam and whipped cream — so scrumptious! The hubby had simple porridge, but he enjoyed it, and we were happy with the dining experience. Friendly service as well.

Wonderful - Edit
Homely and relaxed cafe with the most beautiful rooftop garden. Staff are extremely welcoming and the food is delightful. Great menu with new specials on daily. Excellent coffee, without a doubt the best in Aberdeen. Wide drinks menu. Their deluxe hot chocolate is not to be missed. Delicious fresh cakes. Most of the food is organic and everything is homemade. Bonobo cannot be faulted.

Obvious choice when in Aberdeen - Edit
First of all, I am glad there is a place like Bonobo Cafe in Aberdeen. My main critique is that it isn't big enough.
Read moreI was there twice this weekend, both times couldn't find a seat inside, leaving me with the freezing terrace outside.
There are prepared sandwiches for take away available; most of the food is cheaper if you order it for take away.
The coffee is great, three different kinds of plant milks, also turmeric and matcha available.
Lots of stuff on the menu.
The first time, I had a Mac'n'Cheese, which was fair in taste and quantity; to be honest though, it won't persuade anyone who is used to real cheese.
The second time, I had a pretty decent cauliflower soup - nothing to criticize there.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Bonus: They offer ginger shots as well.
Pros: awesome staff, lovely terrace, promote the city of Aberdeen
Cons: not enough seatings inside, vegan cheese not really convincing

favourite Café - Edit
An absolutely lovely vegan cafe. The photos of the interior don't to it justice at all. It's a very cosy space with a wonderful garden/seating area. Coffee is amazing, full Scottish breakfast is the best, and the scones with clotted 'cream' and jam are to die for. Whether vega or not - I urge everyone to go there!

I absolutely love Bonobo! Food is amazing - fresh and delicious, perfect coffee and some cakes to die for :) Very friendly staff, great atmosphere but be ready to walk away with disappointment during lunch time - Bonobo is rather small... Roof garden is a big bonus (fingers crossed for a good weather to enjoy it).
