Bethlehem is a vibrant, emerging city in many ways. Lehigh University looms over the town, there are three superb fully-vegan establishments, and the city has become the hub for all entertainment, culture, and dining for the surrounding area. For all these reasons, the Bethlehem Farmer's Market is a real disappointment.
There were seven stalls in total selling peanut butter, soap, bread, organic vegetables, and baked goods, among other things. My first stop was Stehley's, a bakery offering various vegan baked goods (carrot cake and kiffles). The Kiffles were unbelievable, making the trip worth the time. I would definitely return again, knowing that vegan Kiffles are hard to find. Next, I went to the farm stand, run by lovely people. We bought Kale and Carrots. Both were incredibly fresh and worked wonderfully in a homemade salad. Finally, I stopped by the bread stall. There were only two options, deciding on the Rustic Sourdough loaf, a crispy crust with a soft, textured middle.
My overall problem is the size. It's just too small to warrant the parking and the visit, which is unfortunate because there are some treasures to be found. I expect more from Bethlehem and with a change in location to bring in more vendors, this market could really flourish.
