PDX is Better - Edit
Tried both (though one has since closed) locations in Portland and loved them. Tried the Seattle location and was not impressed. Got a bacon egg and cheese on a toasted salt bagel. The bagel was super small and it just wasn’t as good as the one I had in Portland. I also got a potato latke which I did enjoy. It also comes with sour cream and apple sauce.

❤️❤️❤️ - Edit
Ben and Esters Jewish deli, had the best lox and cream cheese I’ve ever had. Wish they had a location near my house in Arizona.

Zero stars if I could, unbelievable this place is top rated - Edit
I don't know how everyone left such good reviews -- as a vegan I always want to give the benefit of the doubt, but my partner and I left unable to think of a worse vegan place we've eaten at. The app forced me to give 2 stars, not my own choice. I've been wanting to come here for so long and I am incredibly disappointed....and shocked how good of reviews this has. I got egg salad, steak mushroom hoagie:, and babka the babka and hoagie were some of the dryest things I'd ever put in my mouth and flavors were subpar, the hoagie tasted very unnatural/chemical heavy. Egg salad was average. My partner got the Lizzo and lox bagel and they were at best ok. It was a very sad ending to a meal I'd been anticipating for so long, and I'm truly perplexed by the number of rave reviews this place has.

Nice Reubens 👍 - Edit
Seattle has surprisingly few fully vegan restaurants/dining establishments so this deli is exciting! I am a huge fan of vegan reubens and this was very likely the best I've ever had - and they had run out of corned beef so I had it with turkey instead! Still great!
Read moreIt's a bit overpriced and I found the knish a little less flavourful than I would have wanted but hey, at the end of the day I'm really excited to have a great vegan sandwich place in the heart of the city. And to the purists complaining about authenticity - you're not on the east coast anymore.
Pros: Big menu with many options , Very good sauerkraut, Best vegan reuben I've had!
Cons: No soy milk for coffee. , A bit overpriced

Not to kvetch or nothing... - Edit
I was disappointed. Growing up in New York, I had high hopes. Instead, I found high prices for low quality. It was fair. Not in the sense of just, but in the sense of average, or middling food quality and service.
Read moreI paid a lot of money for a hoagie combo. Unlike the photo of the default sandwich here, instead of a long crusty Italian loaf I might have expected at a New York Style Deli, thick with antipasto and stuffings, I received a thick loaf of soft bread with a tiny sliver of seitan and some lettuce and unripe pastel pink tomatoes.
Flavor was bubkes. It wasn't fun eating so much dry bread with so many under-stimulated olfactory axons. Looking at the menu, all of the options should have been offered on one sub, mushrooms, cheese, peppers with lettuce and tomato. Asking for the same I would have been upsold a $30 sandwich. A slice of dill pickle was offered in lieu of soup for the combo, so I had to go without if I wanted to get out for less than the price of a pair of new shoes in Bed Stuy.
The matzoh ball soup I was chalishing to try was enormous, might have been a whole liter worth but it was dreadfully unseasoned, not enough salt or pepper and none to be found anywhere to liven it up. The rutzers were all too verdreyt to help. My matzohs (which are a snap to make vegan, from personal experience) were pasty and dense like golf balls of play dough. I left mine uneaten.
The bagels looked too small, so I didn't order one since they were ten bucks to boot. Sorry to hock, maybe my experience will be less of a graube on another day, but between the prices and the quality I'd just as soon put 1/4 down on a flight to JFK.

Pros: 100% plant based, busy and popular, good location
Cons: billik and bissel, that "music" playing in the dining room, half the staff seemed angry, too many glitches

I appreciate the concept, not the execution.

Great vegan cream cheese - Edit
I’m sure this review will expand over time since I plan to come back here often. I’ve been pining for some decent vegan bagel options and so pleased Ben & Esther’s is here to satisfy. So far I’ve tried the carrot lox bagel sandwich, which is pretty good, but what really blew me away was the scallion cream cheese. Can’t wait to come back and try more combinations.
Read moreEdit2: The lemon-dill and veggie shmears are great on the lox sandwich. I also highly recommend the steak & eggs
Edit3: Ben & Esther’s has a few new sandwiches. We really enjoy the Lizzo, which comes on a jalapeño bagel. Unfortunately their jalapeño bagels often have very few and sometimes no jalapeños. We’ve had similar issues with their garlic bagels. We tend to stick with the their sesame and everything bagels for the best bagel coverage. Their pumpernickel is good sometimes, but it’s also been rock hard. They’re not very reliable. I’d love to see them improve the quality of their bagels and introduce some whole wheat varieties.

I love it when a vegan establishment embellishes the reality of non-vegan foods, and this deli does it thoroughly and well. Options abound with many sandwiches, from Turkey to steak to corned beef. They also offer home made vegan baked goods.

Classic “kosher” deli but vegan! - Edit
I am from the New York area and grew up on kosher deli’s. It’s great to see a place like this, with a lot of really great options. The food is good but not incredible.

Kosher Dills FTW! - Edit
Super tasty spot. The Reuben—amazing btw—came with a dill pickle spear and the pickle was so good, I had to go and order another full one! In addition to a variety of bagels, schmears, sandwiches, and deli standards (e.g. egg salad, potato knishes), they also feature a variety of difficult to find Jewish desserts such as rugelach, Hamentashen, babka, and halvah. Plus, year-round matzoh ball soup!!

We went just before closing today, but they still had a great selection. There were only a couple of orders ahead of mine, so I had my to-go order within maybe 10 minutes or so. We had the bagel with lox and lemon dill schmear, the reuben, the macaroni salad, and a black and white cookie. Everything was so good! We can't wait to go back and try more items.

I’m from New York, and we’re pretty picky about our delis/bagels/egg sandwiches. I decided to stop by and get breakfast here on our last day in seattle, and everything was delicious! I wish we came here earlier in our trip, because I definitely would’ve gotten breakfast from here every day.
