Ice Cream
Dairy ice cream company founded 1978 with the opening of its small shop in Vermont, US. Since has expanded into an international franchising enterprise and operates manufacturing facilities making its line of products for sale at grocery stores everywhere. In 2017 its retails shops began offering a couple of vegan ice cream and sorbet options as well as almond milk for milkshakes. Vegan flavors may vary so ask. Ask for vegan cones. Also look in the fridge for pints to take home. NOTE: This location is reported to no longer offer vegan flavours, please confirm and let HappyCow know. Open Mon-Sun 10:00am-11:00pm.

It's ice cream - Edit
The vegan ice cream is alright, but all their imagery of "happy" cows makes me sad.
Read moreI don't understand why Ben and Jerry's gets so much credit for being a socially good company, while they are still exploiting cows for milk, which is impossible to do without abuse. They were sued a while back for false advertising because they said the milk comes from happy cows, and still sourced some of it through factory farming. They won the lawsuit through a technicality by arguing that they never said *all* of their milk comes from happy cows. They then removed the "happy cows" claim from their advertising, and continued to not care about animal welfare.

Great Non-Dairy Options - Edit
Delicious non-dairy ice cream options. Was really turned off by all the “happy cow” cardboard cutouts and posters in the shop though. Made me remember that I was still supporting a chain that abuses and exploits animals, even if I got the vegan options. In the future I’ll try to avoid and buy vegan brand options from the grocery store instead.

Pros: Lots of great vegan ice cream options, Hot chocolate could be made vegan
Cons: “We have happy cows” posters were everywhere

Vegan Sundae Option - Edit
Ben & Jerry's has done a great job with their non-dairy flavors, and I was so excited to see that they have them available in their scoop shops as well as in grocery store freezer aisles.
Read moreThey did have the option for a non-dairy sundae, which was exciting. I don't think it was necessarily worth what it cost (more than three scoops costs, and the sundae only comes with two scoops). Additionally, I thought it was weird that they only put the chocolate sauce on top of the whipped topping.
In any event, though I wasn't necessarily over the moon with the value for the sundae, the ice cream itself was delicious. I visited twice on my last trip to Lake Placid (I got three scoops, no sundae, on the second trip) and was very happy with my decision to stop by. :)
Pros: Several non-dairy flavors, No upcharge for non-dairy options
Cons: Overpriced non-dairy sundae for what is given

This store was open July 4 weekend (not sure why this app states this store is closed). Enjoyed nondairy Colin Kap’s Change the Whirled ice cream!

Delicious dairy free ice cream - Edit
Only had one vegan option when I was there but I’m glad they did! It was a nice yummy treat in a town that doesn’t seem to have many other vegan dessert options

Sweet Treats for Vegans! - Edit
So pleased to find ice cream for vegans up in the ADK. Ice cream shops are on every corner up here in the mountains and not one has something suitable for plant based foodies. Thanks Ben and Jerry’s! Glad to have you in the neighborhood with not one, but two! options for us! 🍦
