Amazing, lively atmosphere

Great for chillin'with a beer and having some "pub" food. Super fun, relaxed atmosphere. Always packed it seems. Free seating so first come, first served. Order at bar and take an order number to your table.

Pros: Great atmosphere, Completely vegan, Fairly priced

The best hot dogs in town

Great hot dogs in town, my favourite is simple version. I will definitely come back. I don't recommend deserts, the Oreo and peanut butter brownies with ice cream . They taste like usual brownies, you cannot taste peanut butter nor Oreos and ice creams simply lack any flavour and they cost a lot for a scoop.

Pros: Hot dogs , Dirty chips

Cons: Ice creams and brownies not worth it!

Buy the PBJ fries

Great vegan hotdogs but for me the stand out dish was the peanut butter and jelly fries. Amazing!! My hot dog was great too, if a little messy to eat. The pub is really quirky, you can sit in an old bath, and had lots of good non alcoholic options for non drinkers.

Pros: Great menu , Quirky location, Good value for money

The best Vegan Kebab

Excellent vegan food at great prices, plus it's served in a great pub/music venue..perfect!! The Kebabs are beyond reproach and the hot dogs are ace too. All food is excellent value for money, my only complaint would be for all their claims to "Hail Seitan" there's not that much Seitan on the menu (Just the Kebab meat, the hot dogs are tofu)

Pros: tasty, good value, great venue

Cons: not enough Seitan?

Top notch vegan junk food!

Visited this place when venturing to Brighton. I was newly vegan at the time and was delighted to stuff my face with amazing junk food, no compromises whatsoever on flavour!

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Vegan alcohol a plenty , You can buy merch too!

The Best!

The B E S T place I have ever eaten in Brighton. The food is extremely delicious. Every time I am in the area, I am tempted to have my breakfast/lunch and dinner here. It is the best vegan junk food place out there - don't miss.

Incredibly tasty, but not great for coeliacs

Awesome place to go for some vegan junk food: hot dogs, kebabs, poppers, fried gherkins and olives and some really interesting fry toppings.

Unfortunately, there weren't any gluten free options on the menu (other than fries), so I just went for it and ate what I wanted. No regrets.

Pros: great food

Cons: no gluten free

Good pub food

Cool pub with a totally vegan menu, featuring mainly hot dogs though. Too bad there aren't burgers as well. The hod dog was good, the loaded fries as well, but not the best I ever had. My friends liked the kebab, even though they tound it a bit spicy. Portions are very big and the staff is very friendly.

Quirky pub with a vegan kitchen (Hope and Ruin)

First of off, [censored] amazing vegan cheese. Secondly, the chilly is actually spicy. This place is worth a visit for its particular vibes and its great junk food. Maybe you want to order the kebab, but I'd recommend you going for a hot dog and some cheesy fries.

Pros: Cheese, Quirky vibes, Helpful staff

Cons: A bit dirty

Great vegan junk food

We came here for a late night dinner yesterday and it was generally very tasty food - nice melty cheese and tasty seitan. Unfortunately the bread on the kebab was a bit dry and a bit lacking in seitan but apart from that everything was really good! The one big downside for me though was the volume that the music was being played at - had to shout to be heard.

Pros: Tasty seitan, Great cheese

Cons: Loud music, Slightly disappointing kebab

Was plesently surprised to find somewhere that offered vegan food that hit every taste bud i needed it to.
Overall if i am visiting Brighton again, I’ll be going in there again

Pros: Amazing food, visually/taste and quality. , Loved the interior, very unique., Easy to find

Cons: Toilets were grimey with mould

Vegan 'junk food' at it's best!

Visited here In February on a weekend trip from London. Have tried a lot of the vegan restaurants in Brighton but this one stood out as different and I love vegan 'junk food'! So had to try it. Liked the fact it’s in s pub too.
The pub is full of old nik-naks and has a shabby-chic feel. The kitchen is actually a converted caravan on the pub. Fits in well with the pub's style & I liked it.
Wanted to order everything, but just picked a selection in the end. To start we had the ‘Naughty little boys’ deep fried breaded olives served with homemade mayo. I loved this idea and had never come across it before. Had I not been wanting to save room for my kebabs, I would have ordered more. Also ordered the fries topped with sliced vegan sausage and curry sauce - really good!
We then ordered two kebabs, which were huge! The seitan was well cooked & full of flavour.
I would have had 0 complaints, but I had asked the member of staff for my kebab to come without any onion, as onions don't agree with me. However, the Tzatziki white sauce contained a lot of raw onion pieces. I had to pick at it and couldn’t enjoy it properly so anyone who doesn't like onions, maybe ask for an alternative sauce. I will next time.
Service was o.k, staff weren’t the most attentive to be honest We had to go and get our own forks and napkins from the back of the pub when our food came, which was fine, as I think they were quite stretched with orders and it was a Friday lunch time, so fair enough.
I will definitely be visiting this pub again, next time I’m in Brighton. And will have the ‘Naughty little boys’ for certain.

Pros: All vegan , Good portion sizes, The ‘Naughty little boys’ are AMAZING

Cons: staff weren’t the most attentive

Delicious naughty grub

Yummy vegan hotdogs, kebabs and loaded fries in a nice relaxed pub. I had the hotdog with sauerkraut, which was very messy to eat - the onions, gherkins and sauces were delicious but the sauerkraut a bit strange and stringy. I also had the ‘meat and chips’ - fries with vegan kebab meat and chilli sauce. I find fries with toppings are always a bit soggy but they were still very nice. What’s great is with all the options you can try a bit of everything. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was very nice.

Pros: Vegan!

vegan kebab

We ate here before heading home from our visit, with vegan and omnivore friends, and enjoyed it immensely. We all had a vegan kebab, which was tasty and filling, and shared some ‘popcorn chicken’ - also tasty! Great place.

Pros: great food, affordable, great location

Highly recommend you get yourself here!

good vegan junk food!

This is a great place if you're craving proper vegan junk food. I had the kebab 'meat' and chips with chilli sauce and though I've never had the 'real' version of this I imagine it was similar! Cheap prices too and lots of options. Agree with previous review - much more of a drinking place, loud music even in the day (I was there on a Sunday) and not somewhere to just go for food but great if you want beers and munchies!

Too loud!!

Tried to go here on a Friday night but the music was way too loud for conversation so we went somewhere else. Basically an extremely noisy rock bar.

Pros: Near the station, Easy to find

Cons: Loud, Crowded

Wow Great Vegan Food

The Hope & Ruin is a pub and live music venue, with a vegan kitchen run by Beelzebab and is a pub like no other, with an ecletic and wacky decor, with items like old washing machines incorporated as furniture.

The menu looks awesome with hot dogs, loaded fries and a seitan doner, with brownies and ice-cream supplied by Boho Gelato.

The kitchen is the back half of a caravan, located in the bar, so I had to take a photo, notice the number plate.
We managed to find a table on a busy Tuesday evening and chose a Beelzebab doner minus the soya tzatziki, a Krautwerk dog and Fritz's fries and waited in anticipation.

This is proper vegan junk food, not stodgy or greasy, but finger licking good, and impossible to eat in a delicate way, so I just got stuck in. Hubby was equally impressed with his tofu dog and we both loved the fries. I had a quick chat with chef Luke, to express our love for the food and to pick his brain for tips on how he makes the best seitan I have ever eaten, as my attempts resulted in a heavy, rubbery mess that went in the bin.

This place is highly recommended and when back in Brighton, I would be there like a shot.

Pros: Vegan menu, Vegan desserts, Vegan kitchen

Could have been better

Love the decor and atmosphere at this pub. But the food really really disappointed me. I got a kebab, but I couldn't eat it all. There was waaayyy to much "meat" (seitan), and not nearly enough veggies. Plus, the veggies were all at the bottom of the kebab so I only got them in a few mouthfuls at the end. I'll be going back to try something else next time and hopefully it'll live up to the reviews!

Pros: everything vegan, great staff, awesome atmosphere

Cons: the kebab was not enjoyable

Cool pub, cool food

Went there twice last week, very cool place with a bit of a punky feel to it, couldn't be better.
What more do you want, have a nice pint, order vegan fast food, and have lost of choice, all at the same time, whooo!
