Only vegan by request - Edit
You have to specify you want the pastry vegan, otherwise they put butter on it, even if you select one marked vegan on the menu. They had several tasty options for toppings but I prefer the classic/plain.

Vegetarian and vegan - Edit
We enjoyed the beavertails while in Ottawa. I had maple syrup while my partner had Bananarama ( nutella and banana). Very tasty and the staff were friendly.

The Canadian Classic - Edit
As long as you watch what toppings you put on, the beaver tail is actually a vegan pastry! I love the classic one personally.

Gotta get yourself a Beavertails - Edit
Beavertails is a vegan options place. It’s an amazing place for a delicious desert. The actual dough is plant based so it is the toppings that make the desert non vegan, so most of the menu is suitable for vegans. If you’re in Ottawa, you have to go here.

Incredible - Edit
I feel like a true Canadian now that I’ve been here! I’m so happy they have vegan options. My fiancé and I split the coco vanil’ (Oreo) and the apple pie. They were both SO GOOD but I definitely preferred the oreo one; the apple pie filling is served cold which I thought was odd.

I was so excited to find that you could have vegan Beavertails because I really wanted to try one on my trip to Canada. That being said, they were a little expensive, I thought they would be bigger for that price.

was shocked to learn these were vegan - Edit
I've loved beavertails ever since I was a kid, and I assumed after going vegan I'd have to give them up. I was super happy to learn you could just omit butter to make them vegan

A thing of the past - Edit
Beavertails were a must have each year in the canal growing up. A winter tradition tasty enough to endure being half dragged down the works longest skating rink in those infernal supportless girls figure skates. Also worked there as a teen. Was much simpler then, with 3 varieties, cinnamon sugar, Kilaloe sunrise and garlic & cheese. Gradually added a variety of toppings that just got too complex and costly. I note the suggestion to ask for no butter, while seemingly a good idea ( perhaps they have an alternative now?) otherwise the cinnamon sugar has nothing to stick too. Plus everything there is cooked in the same oil.
Read morePros: Warm nostalgia for those who grew up here, Look on tourists face when u suggest a beavertail, Taste darn good
Cons: This is no health food , Cross contamination , Rushed service, usually no place to sit

At least two vegan options! - Edit
Having been told this is a must try when in Canada these didn’t quite live up to the hype however that may just be due to personal taste! To have a veganised beaver tail just ask them to make yours without butter and choose one of their already vegan toppings.
