Simple canteen food

Likely the cheapest place to eat in Istanbul.

Most dishes are in their Bain Marie. Their food is simple, wholesome and hearty.

Friendly and helpful staff who speak English.

Pros: Cheap food, Wholesome, Friendly staff

Awesome

The food is tasty and nourishing, and the staff are really nice. They pointed out to me which dishes are vegetarian. Apart from the main cafeteria-style hot dishes, there’s a refrigerator where you can choose salads and desserts. I paid about $3 for rice with beans, salad, and rice pudding.

Edited to add: after I posted this review, another customer came over and tried to hit on me, and the cashier — who knew I don’t speak Turkish so I couldn’t defend myself easily — came over, told the man off, took away his food, and made him leave. Then he brought me some tea. They are the kindest. I will keep going back here as long as I’m in Istanbul.

One can still eat for cheap in European Istanbul

Very simple but with a wide plant-dish menu for the neighbourhood, where it also stands as the most affordable (inflation notwithstanding). Please, forget about your credit card!
