My new favourite

I appreciate the unpretentious ambience as much as the yummy vegan food.

It is such a great feeling being in a cafe with tables and chairs that look like they have been picked up from a garage sale or op shop. Old school doilies on each table and a whole bunch of random mugs.
This is a community cafe,, and I love this community. I don't feel so comfortable in any other cafe.

Home made vegan pies- roast veg or curried veg, fresh vegan muffins and scones every day and great service guaranteed.

Pros: Ambience , Coffee, Food

Cons: None

Delicious Coffee and Wholesome Grub

Went here for lunch with my parents while they were visiting. Everyone enjoyed the experience and we will come back!

My mother had a toasted sandwich. Good reasonably priced option for lunch, made to order, vegan options available. It was pronounced delicious, best cafe toastie she'd ever had.

My father always opts for the creamy mushrooms, and the ones on offer at Awhi happen to be vegan. He said he couldn't tell they were vegan, very creamy and tasted good.

I had the vegan burger, which came with fries and vegan aioli. Definitely some of the best aioli I've ever tried. Fries were cooked to perfection. Burger was huge, could hardly get my mouth around it, and care had obviously been taken to balance all the flavours. They make their own patties, which are soft and moist and not at all dry or unpleasant. Really enjoyed it, and it was a generous portion for the price.

Rodney is an absolute wizard on the coffee machine, and has unlocked a real talent as a barista. Some of the best coffee you'll ever have, served in fun mismatched thrifted cups. No slick cafe cups here: you'll get your coffee or tea served in one of a random assortment of mugs being given a second lease on life at the cafe.

I didn't have a cake, but I really appreciated that as a vegan, I could have had one of several cake options out of the cabinet if I had wanted to!

The atmosphere manages to be both cosy and airy, a combination of dark walls and reclaimed furniture with skylights and the openness of the art gallery right there. Lovely art on the walls, and plenty of pamphlets and brochures promoting local attractions if you need some reading material.

The only downside is that this is a small operation run by two people, so there is only one person in the kitchen making the food. This means that if you order off the menu, there will be a wait for your food to come out. It doesn't take forever and it isn't unreasonably long, just not as fast as it would be in a larger cafe with a larger staff.

All in all, the cafe is very reasonably priced and the owners are lovely friendly people who are really good at what they do. Definitely worth a visit, you can take in some art while you're there.

Pros: Amazing coffee, Plenty of vegan options, Very reasonably priced

Cons: Menu items take a while to come out, Closes at 3pm, so no lingering over afternoon tea
