Serves meat, vegan options available. Sandwich shop with other locations. Has one vegetable sandwich with hummus on multigrain bread. Open Mon-Sun 6:30am-4:00pm.
It’s hard to tell what may be vegan as nothing is labeled. The friendly staff aren’t aware and even leafing through the ingredients binder did not help much.
Found the food to also be uninspired.
There are so many great sandwich shops in town and most at least label the menu to make ordering as a vegan easier.
Growing up in Bellingham I have always loved avenue breads, the atmosphere is so friendly and warm, and there is always local art on the walls. They have a few delicious vegan options, my favorite being the New Spruce sandwich with roasted veggies on a rosemary baguette, and their Tofugennue (Banh mi, breakfast sandwich style).
Their vegan options are limited, but I absolutely love the ones they have. They also tend to be fairly affordable.
Sandwiches lack flavor, you can find better sandwiches in Bellingham - Edit
We ordered 4 different breakfast sandwiches over two visits to Avenue Bread, selecting different bread options, and all were meh. The bread was not very flavorful and neither were the fillings. We vastly prefer Mount Bakery or Shirlee Bird for sandwiches.
Always busy, the bread here makes the sandwich. It's fresh and soft with a chewy crust. They have one sandwich on the menu called The Garden I think that can be easily veganized by asking them to leave the basalmic dressing off which has mayo in it. They are happy to accomodate. The protein in the sandwich is hummus.
I have called on many occasions to inquire about vegan options. I'm told none of their sandwich bread is vegan as it contains dairy and/or honey. Time to get with the times, Avenue!
