Anixi has 5 star potential, but not quite there yet.. - Edit
My friend and I stopped by ANIXI for the first time last month.
Read moreWe started with the 3 Dip Mezze with 1 choice of housemade bread ($26): Fire Roasted Eggplant, Whipped “Ricotta" & Taramasalata accompanied with the Layered Herb Bread. The dips and breads were enjoyable.
My favorites:
GRILLED FATTOUSH ($18) - it was like a very good deconstructed romaine salad. The romaine had a light char that was extremely satisfying. It was a playful and creative dish that was fun to eat. Might be one of my favorite salads ever.
MANTI "LAMB" POCKETS ($20) - I would come back again just for the "Lamb" Pockets! They were cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor! Also, the yogurt and juicy tomatoes were a perfect addition.
I could do without:
KOFTA KABOB ($27) - I enjoyed the consistency and flavor of the kabobs. However, I felt as if they ate very salty.
CONFIT POTATOES ($12) - the potatoes were okay, but I wouldn't order them again.
PISTACHIO ICE CREAM ($8) - The ice cream was good, but I only received a tiny hint of pistachio. I also liked the fig and raw pistachios on top, but overall it was just okay. Not worth the $8 price tag.
OVERALL THOUGHTS:
The hostess and servers were friendly. The decor is stunning! The atmosphere felt posh and fun. The food came out quick. Everything tasted very fresh. I would definitely dine here again. Especially, since I had to refrain from ordering the whole menu. I'm excited to try different dishes next time. Except for the "Lamb" Pockets and Grilled Fattoush, I wouldn't be able to resist ordering them again!

Fabulous vegan restaurant - Edit
We absolutely loved this place.
Read moreClassy dining room, with bar area for extra seating. Good friendly service, very theatrical way of serving the dishes.
We started with the three dips plus pita bread. The taramasalata was amazing, the kombucha squash was really good, and the hummus was adequate but tasty. The pita was excellent too.
Our main courses were the mushroom kabob and the kofta. Both really good, the kofta was uncannily like meat but tasted fantastic.
We'd left room for dessert so both had the Mejdool date cake. Heaven on a plate.
There's plenty of choice on the menu, and looking at diners around us it all looked amazing.
Pros: 100% vegan, Delicious everything, Great decor
Cons: Had to book an early time to get a table

Unique take on vegan mediterranean - Edit
Service and food were top notch! Very nice yet approachable venue. Go with a group if you can so you can taste multiple menu items. I dont think you can go wrong with any of the dips and the fresh house made pita was delish. My favorite was the mushroom kabob! And don't skimp on dessert, the date cake was heavenly.

I wanted to like it more - Edit
Came here to scratch my itch for Mediterranean food that isn’t falafel. Mission accomplished, but not sure I would come back. The kofta kabobs were very good but too real. I was scared I was eating meat. I didn’t like their hummus (I prefer more lemon). I didn’t try their yogurt because it’s coconut based and I’m not crazy about coconut dairy. Also the tab was outrageous for what I got. I don’t mind paying for something I really enjoy but this wasn’t worth it IMO.

One of the two or three best meals I have had as a vegan. Just incredible. While extremely busy on a Saturday night we still received excellent service. Make sure you have a reservation.

A welcome addition to NYC - Edit
This was a wonderful surprise. It was an inventive menu served in a beautiful space by friendly staff. (Long-time New Yorkers will recognize the space from the old Biltmore Room.) It's definitely a place to share as many dishes as you can. The manti pockets, in particular, were a big hit, but OMG, the Chunk brand steak kabob was a revelation. It's the best mock meat I've had yet.

Don't skip the Dip Mezze, try them all - Edit
This place kicks! Anixi showed up as a suggested place on my feed: vegan, Mediterranean. That’s my jam. Looking at the pics and menu online definitely got me all curious. It definitely lives up to the hype.
Read moreWalk in, past the bar, and into the dining room in the back. It has a modern, old-world charm to it. I initially thought the place would be a little bit more frou frou but the place was totally accessible. Our waiter was friendly and funny. He even charmed us into ordering an extra dish.
Here’s the breakdown:
- Taramasalata: lemon-infused yogurt w/ orange seaweed caviar (Yum!)
- Whipped ricotta: made from almond and cashew topped with apricots
- Layered herb bread
- “Beef” Lahmacun
- Manti “lamb” pockets (Yes!)
- Arak cured “salmon” risotto
- Prickly pear & mint and Saffron & thyme sparkling sodas
Skip the Lahmacun. But absolutely get the Taramasalata and the Manti Pockets. Dips appeared throughout the meal and it’s clear Anixi specializes in these; they were all excellent. The plating was lovely. And I loved the table setting. Must try their cocktails, pizza, and desserts next time. Good for dates.

Really nice to have vegan options in a meat heavy cuisine, got to try a lot of old favorites and loved the flavors and design of the dining room. Service was 10/10.
