So good. Better than expected!

After being disappointed by Delice and Sarrisan we were hesitant to spend that much $ again. So glad we did! 100% better experience overall. Better service, better food better atmosphere!

Pros: Service, Flavors, Atmosphere

Disappointed

I went to Anixi with high expectations and was disappointed. Despite having made a reservation, we were seated at a table that really shouldn't have been a table. I could barely get into my seat (and I am a small person), and my husband (who is not large) had so little room for his elbows that he had trouble using his knife. We had a tall counter on one side and felt crammed in. I had the sense that every inch of space in the restaurant was being used to make money, and we were apparently not seen as worthy of a proper table.

I am of Middle Eastern origin. Middle Eastern food, like all Mediterranean food, is naturally close to vegan, since the land is more readily used for growing crops than for exploiting animals. There are a lot of Middle Eastern dishes that are authentically vegan. The menu, however, was full of vegan meat, cheese, and egg substitutes. While a runny vegan egg is an impressive novelty the first time one eats it, it's not enough to save a dish that lacks flavour and freshness. We tried to avoid the obviously heavy dishes, but in the end, everything we ordered was heavy with fat. More than three hours after leaving the restaurant, I'm still uncomfortable. Also, the decor seemed like a Westerner's stereotype of Middle Eastern decor and did not contain any real Middle Eastern elements.

I had very positive impressions of Beyond Sushi, Willow, and Coletta, but I feel that Chef Vaknin has missed a great opportunity with Anixi.

Unreasonably good

Def top 3 or so upscale vegan restaurants I’ve been to. Everything was fantastic, but the chunk steak kebab and yo egg pide (flatbread) really knocked our socks off, as did the chocolate date dessert. Expensive but worth it, crazy meal

Very nice night out

The herb bread was chef's kiss good. The beef kabobs and the confit potatoes were delicious. The rose water ice was my favorite. The vanilla and pistachio ice creams were good too. The staff allowed us to come earlier than our reservation time. We were soaked from the rain. They had a coat check for our umbrellas and coats. The service was great. A person came and wiped off the table in-between dinner and dessert. The place is very glamorous and relaxing .

Pros: Bread, Ice cream , Service

Great food, very upscale and celebratory atmostphere

We had: Arak Cured "Salmon" which was amazing that they could make something like this vegan; "Beef" Dolmas which were very flavorful; Crispy "Lamb" Cigars which were tasty and spiced just right; Chick'n Shish Kabob, and Wild Mushroom Kabob which were both nicely done. We felt like it was a real "night on the town" in this bustling restaurant with lots of happy groups and couples around us. The Smoke and Spice cocktail was, well, smoky and spicy and very nice too.

The staff was really wonderful, taking time to help us with our options and, even though there was a time limit, we never felt rushed.

Pros: Great food, Great staff, Great atmosphere

Exquisite experience.

Easily the best vegan food I've ever had; meat replacements felt eerily real and the cocktails were incredible. We tried a three dip mezze with layered herb bread, all of the dips were flavorful and fresh. The Khachapuri and Chick'n Shish Kabob were perfectly cooked, flavorful, and well portioned. Service was prompt and very polite, with very knowledgeable staff. The restaurant itself is beautiful as well. I would give this more than 5 stars if possible.

Pros: Literally everything.

Cons: Dim lighting limits photos, so focus on the food!

Delicious Mezze

We ordered a large variety of items off the Mezze menu, instead of entrees. We got 5 types if Mezze, and it was more than enough to fill the two of us. You could easily get away with 3 or 4 and leave happy and full.

The food was phenomenal and worth what you pay for it. Most of the food was innovative flavors that you don't see too often, and the vegan meat was the best I've ever had, across the board.

Overpriced

I was disappointed with my experience at the vegan place. While the food was good, it was overpriced. Additionally, the portion sizes left me hungry. The service was subpar, especially if you don't have a reservation. Overall, not worth the cost. #Veganuary

Perfect vegan restaurant

Great food, unique menu, amazing service, fully vegan, beautiful interior. How can it get better than that?! We were expecting greatness, but not THIS GREAT!

We ordered the 3 dip mezze platter, chicken and steak kabobs. Steak kabobs are made with Chunk foods - the up-and-coming brand that imitates steak perfectly. All of it was perfect - we can’t stop talking about it!!!

The only downside: they don’t serve the standard basmati rice. I may sound picky, but my comfort food includes the right rice with my kabobs. It wasn’t bad at all, it just wasn’t the flavor I wanted.

NYC is one of the best places ever for vegans!!! Thank you, Anixi!

Favorite restaurant

I’ve been to Anixi couple times since it opened earlier this year and have loved it every single time. The first time we went we met Chef Guy Vakin and it was such a pleasure to talk to him and hear a little about his journey. Anixi is my favorite of his 4 restaurants (the others are amazing too) - don’t miss the mejdool date cake for dessert, it’s absolutely divine!

Pros: Dip mezze, Mejdool date cake, Khachapuri

Reddit Recommended

Prior to coming to NYC, I had asked for recommendations for vegan restaurants from Reddit readers. Anixi was one of the ones that came up. We were early for lunch after a walk on the High Line, so plenty of seats available. The pita and hummus were a delicious appetizer, and we enjoyed sharing the “steak” kabob and “beef” dolmas. My criteria for a good meal is something I would not make at home, and this meal was delicious.

Hidden gem with delicious food!

If you walk by, you might miss it, but such a elegant place when you walk in. The service is excellent and food is delicious. Lots of options to share. The dip mezze trio is a good way to try lots of different flavors. The flatbread pizza cooked perfectly and kabobs are all beautiful in presentation and yummy. Each dish really stands on its own

Pros: Variety of flavors and textures, Beautiful place, great service, Delicious food

Celebratory occasion restaurant

A good place for large groups and special occasions. The atmosphere is classy and festive.

The food is Mediterranean and generally very good. They have a lot of dishes that are 'elevated' versions of simple food. While the flavors are good and sometimes surprising, it can feel a little fussy. This is a minor criticism.

They do have a lot of fake meat, which isn't to my taste, but they have plenty of dishes that are vegetable-forward as well. If you're into fake beef, you should definitely go, as they seem to be working to push the envelope on that front. A nearby table ordered a "steak" dish, and I've got to say, it was incredibly realistic looking.

We found the portions to be deceptively large. That is, we tried to be reasonable, but ended up with more than we could eat. This seems common and their default is to pack the leftovers to go, which is great.

Anixi has both an incredible atmosphere in an 1845 federal style building and incredible Mediterranean dishes. Absolutely everything is delicious and some of the best dining in Manhattan. Great ambiance, great ricotta & layered herb bread

Great seating, ambiance, and staff.
Loved: Whipped ricotta and layered herb bread
Liked: Taramasalata, beet & citrus salad, lamb pockets, steak kabobs, date cake dessert
Hated: hummus (way too much tahini)

I went with my husband and we both really hated the hummus here but loved the ricotta. The beet and citrus salad was just "good" to me but I'm happy we ordered something light and refreshing because the rest of our meal was so heavy w/ faux meats.

My pre-vegan self loved steak so I thought I'd love the steak kabobs, but the texture was too similar to real steak that I couldn't finish it. My husband happily finished my portion, though. I wish I had ordered either the chikn or mushroom kabobs, though.

If you love chocolate, you'll love the date cake dessert.

Pros: Layered herb bread, Whipped ricotta, Ambiance

Cons: Heavy meals w/ lots of faux meats
