Perfect

I ordered burger and tofu as a chicken. Everything is nice. The best chips I've tried. Cream brulee unbeatable.

Pros: Crunchy and non-oily breaded

Amazing !!!

I had the mushroom curry with rice and it was delicious. The sweetcorn soup was even better - probably the best soup I’ve ever had! The service was really quick and friendly. I was over the moon to find somewhere vegan as I have been doing a tour around Japan and it has been difficult to find things to eat at times. Definitely would recommend the food and it feels great to be able to support a wholly vegan restaurant.

Pros: Great food , Great service , Lovely drinks and desert

Share this with all your vegans and non vegans!

I love the way this restaurant showcases and celebrates vegan food - it’s tasty, not boring and offers a lot of variety. After resorting to perhaps one too many 7/11 onigiri in the last few days of our travels, we were ready for a warm and hearty meal and Ain Soph. exceeded our expectations! I must say though, if you are not a fan of sansho pepper like me,(Japanese pepper that imo invades your entire mouth with strange sour taste) then don’t try the burger with the sansho pepper sauce, perhaps replace it with something else(?), I’m sure it’s possible, the wait staff are all very accommodating and lovely.
Super tasty karaage and burgers and we had quick service.

Pros: Super tasty karaage , Lovely wait staff, Quick

Cons: Burgers alittle bit too salty for my taste

Most delicious, kawaii, veganised-western food in Kyoto

Visited here on 3 occasions and it did not disappoint. I've tried the burgers, pancakes, creme brûlée, fajitas, cream float drinks, chocolate brownie and cheesecake. All delicious and super fresh ingredients were used. The staff are always happy to answer any questions or just to chat about japan, vegan food, kyoto travel.

It's a little expensive but you get what you pay for - so i say visit for a fancier evening or lunch and try a few different things, make the most of it!

Pros: Delicious, Easy to find, Nice seasonal items

Cons: small (seats maybe 30)

Best vegan burger

One of the people in my group said that it was the best vegan burger they had eaten.

The menu was in English and marked with gluten free symbols on gf meals/desserts.

The soy nuggets are really good and gluten free!

The cheesecake, chocolatecake and the macha pancake were really good.

The staff speaks really good english and were very friendly.

Pros: Lots of gluten free options, Best vegan burger, Good desserts and cream sodas

Cons: The desserts are a bit pricy but worth it. , No gluten free burger :(

Must eat vegan burgers, chicken, salads!

Stumbled across this place whilst ironically looking for another restaurant on Happy Cow, and so glad that I did!
All vegan restaurant with fantastic friendly staff, in a lovely little side street off one of the main shopping streets in Kyoto.
I’m coeliac so finding gluten-free vegan food in japan is very hard for me, but here there are loads of gf options. All clearly labelled on the menu in English. I had the chicken nuggets which were great!
My partner had the cheeseburger which looked great!!
Definitely recommended!!!!

Pros: All vegan restaurant , Great friendly staff, English menus and English speaking staff

Fine Dining, Sort Of

Just off Teramachi Dori, where people go to shop their brains out, lies the improbably named Ain Soph. Journey, an all-vegan restaurant. The name doesn't exactly run smoothly off the tongue or stick in the mind; however, you should make your way to this delightful restaurant.

The decor was vaguely Italian checkered-tile flooring and vaguely English-German dark-wood beams—very inviting and soothing (especially compared to the noisiness outside the restaurant). The lighting was dim and well-placed. For seating, I saw three two-tops, one four-top, and one six-top. Most of the seats were filled when we went there for dinner, promptly at their dinner-service time of 6:00. (They were closed before 6:00 but perhaps just for a few hours? I wish I had taken a photo of their hours of operation.) There might be seating upstairs, too.

My partner and I both shared two burgers: one a "beef" burger, the other a "chicken" burger. These meat analogues seemed rather healthy compared to many other meat analogues we've eaten. I think we both preferred the chicken burger, which featured a yummy and textural tartar sauce and shredded red cabbage. For appetizers, we had chips and salsa (meh) and a fried soy cutlet (good but dry and oily). For dessert, we had cheesecake—she the chocolate with whipped cream, I the New York style with blueberry sauce. I believe it was the best vegan cheesecake I've had, though I can't remember too many times when I've eaten vegan cheesecake. It was fluffy and rich. I could have used a thicker crust, perhaps.

We order a lot! Yes, we did! Why? Well … it was a delicious meal! We loved it. If we lived in the area, we probably wouldn't go there often, for it is on the expensive side (about $50 US for all that grub), and for it has an oddly eclectic, international assortment of items, including taco salads, saag paneer, and some perhaps Italian-style rice dish. Its identity is a little all over the place, though I should say that all the dishes that we saw come out looked absolutely delicious.

They had a menu in English.

The servers were happy and friendly and helpful.

After eating here, we left and walked the twilit streets and felt good food swirling around in our tummies, and I said to my love, "This has been a really good day." Ain Soph. Journey was part of what made the day so very good.

Amazing food

This is the best it gets when it comes to epic vegan burgers and sandwiches in Japan. Cheesy and decadent, it satisfies a vegan burger craving. We were a little disappointed by the expensive price of the desserts, but we bought the biscotti to go, which was delicious.

Pros: All vegan, Great food

Cons: Expensive

Good mix of western style food and Japanese dishes

My partner and I had the omelette, vegan fried chicken and sweet corn soup vegan chicken burger and fluffy Japanese pancakes. Best corn coup I've ever had and the chicken was very tender and flavourful. The dessert was on point too 👌

Amazing food and atmosphere

I had the bean and tomato stew with brown rice (i don't remember the actually name) and the New York cheesecake. It was delicious!! The staff were friendly and spoke English. Check out their menu for prices. I found it reasonable from Australia but in Japan it's a bit more expensive. Definitely worth it!

Sehr lecker

5/5 stars.

This restaurant is really lovely. I have eaten here and in the other branches in Tokyo and they’re always great.

The food is mostly American so it’s not amazing if you’re looking for Japanese cuisine but otherwise it’s incredible.

They have burgers, soy bites, curry, pancakes (!!), soup etc.

It can be expensive. For example the pancake dish is 1500¥ which is around £11, but it is very generous and filling.

This was my go-to place in Kyoto!

Pros: Lots of options, Good value for money, Great staff and atmosphere

Cons: Can be expensive, Doesn’t really offer Japanese cuisine

Greatest of all time

Cant even begin to describe how awesome this place was. Plenty of gluten-free options. The food was absolutely phenomenal. It's a small place and tables are quite little, but we ended up eating way too much because we couldn't get enough. The karage "chicken" blew my mind. Desperately trying to fit in another visit before we leave!!

Pros: Amazing menu, Delicious food, Gluten free options

Cons: Small tables and chairs

Wonderful vegan spot.

After trying the Tokyo Ain Soph I had to try the Kyoto restaurant as well. I would rate them both the same. Quality and variety in both establishments.

Pros: All vegan menu

Cons: None whatsoever.
