Incredible vegan matcha pancakes!! - Edit
Visited a few months back whilst in Kyoto and this place was INSANE. Huge fan of the sweetcorn soup and their special matcha pancakes were delightful but very sweet.

BEST VEGAN PANCAKES - Edit
AMAZING PANCAKES! I found Ain Soph on Happy Cow app and tried their mushroom curry and matcha pancakes at the Kyoto branch. The pancakes are honestly the best I've tasted ever since I went vegan. I even travelled 2 hours just to get them again! The mushroom curry was full of flavour and very generous portion. The interior if the restaurant is small but nicely laid out and designed. There's a few tables downstairs and upstairs too with a lovely comfy diner type seating at the back.
Read morePrices are reasonable (¥1500 for matcha pancakes and it was very filling). Location is off The Nishi Market area. I also tried Ain Soph original pancakes in Tokyo Shinjuku, also just as great. Service is excellent, friendly, quick and welcoming. Best vegan restarant I've visited while in Japan for 3 weeks.
Pros: Great taste, central location in downtown Kyoto

Don't understand the hype! - Edit
We had burgers here and found them okay- just okay. Way too expensive for what you get, the portions of fries with the burgers are small. You'd probably enjoy it if you haven't had much in the way of vegan replacement meat before? Or maybe if you are from a country/city that doesn't have many vegan offerings for "junk food". We had much better meals at other smaller vegan cafes in Kyoto for half the price and better quality food

OK - Edit
Cut cutlet burger was average. Had a bit too much sauce but was good for a easy quick lunch. Went back the next day as I wanted to try the sweets. Cheesecake was ok, have had better in Japan. Wanted to like the pancakes so much but they were undercooked in the Center and not fluffy at all. It almost tasted like an undercooked cake. The ice cream and berries were nice though. Expensive but good portions. Great that they are fully vegan but maybe I just missed with the meals I ordered.

Good food, albeit expensive - Edit
The burger was delicious and so was the creme brulee and matcha pancakes. But for one person to have lunch and the creme brulee for dessert it cost me 3,000 yen. Kinda pricey. Good, but there are cheaper options for sure.

Life saver in Japan - Edit
Anytime I saw this chain in Japan I got so happy as I knew I’d be eating good that day. I got the taco mince salad on rice, housemade wine and a vegan cutlet. Alll were delicious and filling. Although pricey it’s very worth it.

Beautiful place.. Delicious pancakes!!!! - Edit
Lovely 🤍 I’m not a big rum & raisins fan so would probably opt for plain icecream with the pancakes next time. Great texture & flavour, best pancakes I think I’ve ever eaten. (Even pre vegan days)

Good and basic - Edit
In a well-located area of Kyoto, this small and slightly cramped restaurant is pretty basic. Good to have a big range of choice. Essentially Japanese with Western influences comfort food.

Great food! - Edit
We had a great meal at Ain Soph - we tried the soy karage (SO good that we ordered two lots), the crispy chicken burger, the Mexican rice bowl, the chocolate cake and the blueberry cheesecake. All was absolutely delicious! It’s not cheap (our total was ¥6500) but it was worth it to have a great meal with great service.

We went twice!
Read morePerfect vegan comfort food. Amazing burgers and desserts.
Cosy atmosphere and super friendly staff.
We had burgers, cheesecake and pancakes.
The sauces on the burgers were on point, as the kids say. They just added that little something extra to the tastes that were already going on.
Highly recommended for the perfect burger fix.
Pros: All vegan!, Delicious!, Welcoming!

Great burgers and dessert - Edit
We ate the cutlet burger and the mushroom curry. Of the two the cutlet burger was far tastier. I’ve had much better mushroom curry in the past.

I sometimes went here before the new owners took over and I loved their pizzas. Unfortunately the pizzas were taken of the menu when the new owners took over but the food is still great and you should absolutely visit if you are close.

Japanese Kabbalah! - Edit
I hiked 4 km to get to Ain Soph. Anyplace that has the hudspa to name itself after two of the top tiers of the Tree of Life HAD to be worth trekking to.
Read moreMy GPS got me near but couldn't locate it and this American in a foreign land phoned and got a fluent english speaking hostess who came out of the shop and found me in the sea of people in the shopping court!. She escorted me back and i was served a phenomenal meal with a delicious pilsner and cheesecake. So good I had to get an order to go for my train ride to the airport! When it was done this grimy American had only enough Yen to cover the meal and she refused to take my card for a tip! I may be the only kabbalist to ever have visited and knew the full meaning of the mystical name of Ain Soph. I can say it is worthy of being called Ain Soph Aur! The top, final superconscious tier of the Tree of Life. Go there!

I wish we found this spot earlier in our time in Kyoto. This lunch was worth every penny. Everything was perfectly cooked and plated. The things that were fried weren’t overly greasy. I would come here everyday if I could!

Guilty pleasure - Edit
If you are seeking for some great vegan food which isn't necessarily healthy: this is the place! Green tea ice cream was great as well as the chicken fingers (sooo yum!) Cozy atmosphere with free ice tea. Staff is very friendly. It's always crowded and some dishes from the menu are sold out fast.
