Bons pancakes - Edit

Try the pancakes, I already miss them. This is a must... just look at the reviews. What are you waiting for? Loved it! Ask if you can go upstairs, chairs are super comfy!

Delicious and whole grain - Edit
Delicious food that just happens to be vegan. I was thrilled to see extensive use of whole grains including whole wheat and brown rice in the menu.

Pretty good vegan restaurant - Edit
Overpriced. Simple, but good quality. Okay service. We had the mushroom curry and the vegi plate. The curry tasted like tomatoes. The plate was small. The taste was good though. A good place for vegans in Tokyo.

Had the matcha pancakes and they were incredible! Very delicious and filling, loved the gold flakes and fresh raspberries! A little more expensive than most Japanese places but worth it. Staff were very nice as well.

Very good matcha pancakes! - Edit
We were here for lunch at around 14:00, and had the green curry and Hayashi rice. The green curry was more lukewarm, but in the heat it was ok. For dessert me and my girlfriend shared the matcha pancake, and we really liked it! 1000 yen for each curry, and 1800 yen for the pancakes 8% tax.

Best vegan place in Kyoto! - Edit
Must try if you are visiting Kyoto! I wanted everything on the menu. Slightly pricey but worth it. My favorites were the salad with dressing/dips, the cheese plate and the desserts (crême brûlée for the win).

A little expensive, but tasty - Edit
We came for lunch, which I would recommend over dinner, as this place is a lot less expensive at lunch (though still not cheap). I got the salad and deli lunch, which consisted of a GIANT salad, a small cup of pickled veggies, and three pieces of marinated fried soy meat. The soy meat was really tasty, and I think 3 pieces was a good amount. The salad was much larger than I expected so I felt satisfied, and the dressing was really tasty. My boyfriend ordered the taco rice, which he liked but said it wasn't the best. It did come with avocado, which is not super common and was a nice touch (especially if you're missing avocado like we have been while in Japan!).

We went here for lunch before strolling around Nishiki market. Really nice atmosphere and staff were super friendly. They have a good selection of savoury and sweet dishes. We had the mushroom hayashi rice and taco rice. Both were great but loved the taco rice!

Good food but disappointed given the amazing reviews - Edit
I was really excited to try this place given all the amazing reviews on happy cow. I went for the mushrooms cooked in red wine served with rice. It was a good sized portion and tasty enough but didn't blow me away. Maybe I should have ordered a different dish! A little expensive too - 1300 for a medium sized portion.

Just awesome! - Edit
A truly wonderful restaurant! The food itself was really delicious, and there was plenty of variety on the menu. We loved how they took the time to include some backstory into some of dishes and ingredients in general. The atmosphere was very cosy and warm, not a hard place to get comfortable in. The staff were all very accommodating and indulged our poor Japanese.

was excited to try as I'm a big fan of the chain - Edit
I go to the Ain Soph chain in Tokyo often, so was stoked to try this place.
Read moreAbsolutely loved the hot orange drink. It was just to die for. The chips and salsa were also outstanding.
Green curry was overly salted and the cheese was strangely sour. Organic Table by Lapaz in Tokyo does a much better one with more realistic paneer.
Taco rice was good, not the best I've ever had, but it improved as leftovers the next day (actually they told me they don't do leftovers but would wrap them up special for me, which was really kind).
I actually had never tried the pancakes at their other branches and...I didn't like them! They were so eggy and realistic, which I don't like about real non-vegan pancakes. However, conversely, if you want real-tasting pancakes, oh boy, you'll love this place. I did like the soy cream but overall the pancakes at Mumokuteki hit the spot more for me personally. My mom, however, adored the pancakes at Ain Soph Journey (she's not vegetarian).
There were hits and misses but I'd go again. It's down the street from Mumokuteki so if too crowded, I'd try Journey.
Pros: Hot orange drink and chips and salsa were so good, Nice atmosphere, Kind staff
Cons: Some dishes need work (green curry)
