Couldn’t order

They don’t have a separate grill for their vegan sandwiches and the entire deli reeked. It smelled like cooking / rotting flesh. Definitely wouldn’t recommend.

Pros: They have fruit

Cons: Vegan stuff touches meat , Smells like dead animals

Good Plantega Food

Quick service, good burrito, reasonable price. I am just visiting New York and the plantega thing is amazing.

Their heart's in the right place . . .

This is not really a restaurant: it is a bodega/deli, with the typical bodega/deli type items, including (meat) burgers, sausage, ham, etc. There is no dining in or seating--all takeout. It is located near Mt. Sinai Hospital, the Tuskegee bus terminal, and Central Park.

For vegans, they offer juices and also Plantega vegan items which they cook on the grill. I went there today, and asked if they cooked their vegan items on a separate grill (as do some other bodegas that advertise vegan items, including at least one that is not too far from this place). I was told apologetically that they do not: the Plantega vegan items are cooked on the same grill as their meat items.

This deli is small, and I sympathize--even so, I do not feel comfortable eating items cooked on a meat-laden grill, so I didn't order anything. There is a Le Pain Quotidien across the street, as well as a Joe and the Juice place next door, in case you are in the area and would like something vegan.

If you, unlike me, are not bothered by the Plantega items being cooked on the same grill as the meat items, you might want to give this place a try. Or if they change their policy and do start to provide a separate grill for their vegan items, please let us know in your review. But unless things change, my own opinion is that their heart's in the right place....but not their grill.
