Lively place

I went here with a large group of omnis. I had garlic bread, vegan meatballs, and a vegan risotto--all were quite enjoyable.

Good but expensive

Pizza here was good - we had the jackfruit pepperoni which was delicious although I did find it expensive for what we had!

Pros: Good choice , Friendly staff

Cons: A bit expensive

Great! So many filling and delicious options

Came here with my friend before going to Theatre and so the fast service came in really handy
Staff were also v friendly

Vegan Menu was extensive and all options looked amazing- I opted for the Pizza Peperonata (which had Moserilla) a side of herby potatoes and for dessert the Chocolate Praline Torte

Needless to say all was incredible (and super filling)

Pros: VEGAN MENU!, vegan stickers , Chocolate Praline torte (with coconut gelato)

Delicious Pizzq

Really nice and tasty food and a fez options for all three courses for vegans.

I personally think it’s overpriced unless you have the 2 for 1 meerkat movies discount but still a lovely place to eat

Pros: Delicious food

Cons: Slightly overpriced

Seriously delicious vegan food!

I visited Zizzi's on a works' lunch, and the vegan food was amazing! I had the bruschetta for starters and the pizza for mains, the cheese was fantastic, I was so happy to be so well catered for. Food was all labelled vegan, and even the after lunch Irish coffee was made with soya cream.

Pros: Amazing food, top quality.

better and better

This particular Zizzi is great location. Atmosphere good and staff always very helpful. Zizzi vegan menu keeps getting better and recently expanded. Clear separate menu and virtually all wines vegan friendly. Pizza uses mozzerisella which is fantastic.

Pros: great vegan range, separate menu, vegan wines

Zizzi does it

I have to admit I was a little skeptical about going to Zizzi with it being a chain and also because of my support for local independent establishments, but after this dining experience I am now a convert. After being greeted by the friendly staff we were seated and decided to order the classic margarita (£9.95) and vegan rustica margarita (£11.95) with 3 additional toppings each including chillis, peppers, artichokes, olives, mushrooms and balsamic caramelised onions. The pizzas were absolutely amazing and the vegan cheese used was divine. I would go as far to say they were two of the best vegan pizzas we have ever eaten. We also ordered two softtail drinks and the calzone dessert (£5.95) to share, which was nice but could maybe have done with a sauce to moisten it. I am so pleased we decided to go to Zizzi and it is good to see that they cater for vegans, long may it continue.

Pros: Excellent vegan pizza, Friendly staff, Location

Cons: Serves meat, Could be more vegan starters

vegan pizza

I had a large vegan pizza for £9.75, you can choose three toppings to add to a vegan cheese and tomato base. I was too full to try the vegan dessert but it looked good

Back on the Chain Gang

Let's not be a Pretender, I'm not generally an advocate of chains on Happy Cow. Loving Hut and Krowarzywa excluded. However, after the recent introduction of a fully vegan menu, the UK now has another prime city centre location chain which can provide hassle free vegan dining for anyone who seeks its comforts. Las Iguanas being the other one. The Newcastle branch is right in the middle of Grey Street. Anyone who knows Newcastle knows Grey Street knows Newcastle. It's been there for quite a number of years. At least 6, and I've been a few times previously for business and pleasure. The introduction of a vegan menu makes a huge difference. We shared a Rustica Margherita pizza topped with balsamic tomatoes, artichoke and mushrooms and Zizzi's own Mozzarisella cheese made from organic rice milk. There are 11 vegan toppings you can choose from. It was most impressive. "Most impressive" said the king to the court jester. I've actually had far worse vegan pizzas in 100% vegetarian places in the UK and Europe but I don't want to name and shame, as much as I'd like to. Maybe I should, but not today. I doubt I would return here specifically for a vegan dining experience as my loyalty lies with the fully meat free places in the city but it's always a great option to know that is available on tap.

Pros: vegan cheese, vegan wine list, nice setting

Cons: meat is sold

Vegan Pizza

I became vegetarian over 20 years ago and at the time you were lucky to eat somewhere that offered 2 or 3 vegetarian options, a separate menu would have been a dream. So it is with great pleasure to discover that a major restaurant such as Zizzi is committed to a full vegan menu which includes garlic bread, bruschetta, pizza with vegan cheese, pasta, sides including Tuscan potatoes and salads and sorbet & gelato for dessert, all to be enjoyed with vegan wine (only 2 on the menu are not vegan). The last occasion that we visited Zizzi was to see the super vegan artist Bryan Adams playing in the toon in 2010 so it's fitting that our next visit is to sample their new vegan menu. The pizza we shared was something special, they have not compromised on taste and the cute vegan sticker accompanying the rustic delights gives reassurance that no vegan errors have been made and also highlights the delights of veganism to other diners, dispelling the myth that we only eat 'rabbit' food. I personally think Zizzi is a great option to have in the bag, there are always occasions when we have to dine with non vegans and Zizzi can ensure that we will have a great animal friendly wining and dining experience. Zizzi may not be doing this for moral reasons, afterall they still serve animals but I believe this is major progression, it shows that there is a demand for animal free meals and I applaud Zizzi for embracing this.
