Delicious vegan kaiseki

Delicious set meal with unusual ingredients (e.g. grilled bamboo; Konjac with citrus). Will definitely visit again

Literally Inspiring

NOTE: Give yourself time to find. Locate the small elevator in my pictures, and take it to the 2nd floor, you will have to slide open one of the first wood/paper doors.

TO RESERVE: Email directly and reserve in advance, request a vegan set dinner.

REVIEW:
If you have an interest in unique restaurant/chef experiences, get ready to be inspired. There seems to be only 8 seats in the restaurant (4 in private room, 4 at bar). Perfect for 4 or less, this place is run by a young man who must own/operate/cook/etc.

Best Japanese food I had in Japan over 2 weeks. So reasonably priced, he cooks right in front of you and is incredibly professional.

He did not speak any English, but used Google translate to describe each course. Incredible.

Pros: Best Japanese food I had, inexpensive for what you get, unique

Lovely experience

It is more than worth making a reservation to experience vegan kaiseki at Zicon (pronounced zee-cohn). The chef is very friendly and committed to learning more about and improving his vegan offerings. I don’t know that there’s much to improve, though, as everything he served was phenomenal! Our multi-course lunch included rape blossoms in sesame sauce, strawberries in pine nut compote, steamed bamboo shoots with tree bud miso, tempura fu and broad beans, seasoned wasabi leaves, onion asparagus and seaweed over rice, and a side of miso soup. For dessert there was freshly-whisked matcha tea and two Japanese sweets: one with yuzu and one with adzuki. The restaurant is quiet and intimate and the whole experience was just lovely. I can’t recommend it enough!

Pros: Authentic kaiseki experience suitable for vegans., Really charming chef and setting.

Cons: Reservation only - email at least 1 day ahead!
