Saw this place on a map back at the start of the year when planning our holiday. Made sure we left our accommodation for the day so we happened upon it for lunch. Best decision EVER. Incredible cannot describe enough the home cooked delights we ate here. Best food we’ve had in NZ, hands down, no argument. ❤️

We especially made an effort to get to Zen's on our way back to Christchurch from Nelson, and omg so glad we did. He closes at 4:30pm if I remember correctly and we got there a bit after 2pm, but it was so popular we were the third last customers before everything was sold out. I had a super delicious risotto with salad, and my husband had an Indian spiced soup with ciabatta and pesto. He and I also got the apricot cookie and coffee. All the flavour combinations were excellent, nothing felt overly oily/salty/sweet, and we are so keen to go back and see what's on the menu next time.
Read moreHe does operate on his own it looks like, so please be patient if you arrive and there's a big queue, and also don't leave it till the last second to go there in case his food gets sold out early like today (a Sunday).
Pros: Great food flavours!!!, Great coffee for my partner, who is super picky , A welcome stop in a place bereft of vegan options

It is whole heartedly vegan. It oozes stunning food and care for the environment. I had Zen Burger and a Filter coffee with soy. So hard to choose between all the nice food. Absolute find, I recommend you stop here. Gratitude.

We stopped in Murchison for a lunch stop on our road trip. We walked past the cozy looking truck and stopped for a short menu check. At first I didn't realize everything was vegan because I simply didn't expect it.

We had the Zen burger, the deluxe burger and the filo roll with mashed potatoes and salad. After that we also tried the carrot cake and the cheese cake and totally loved it.
ALL of the food was excellent and very fresh! Even my omnivore friends were amazed.
I definitely recommend coming here for lunch.

Fabulous fresh food and service in lovely location - Edit
We got lucky and arrived here just before a large tourist bus. The owner of the van was on his own but was very calm and polite to everyone and managed to feed our family as well as atleast 20 tourists. The food could not be faulted and there were lots of healthy vegan options to choose from! Wish we lived closer and could eat here more often!!!!

Wow, Zen's burger is simply delicious. It has lots of flavours and vegan patty is the best I've had in New Zealand. $13 is really good price for such a treat.

A heavenly vegan food oasis in small-town New Zealand. Such a perfect place to stop in at if you are passing through Murch. The food is restaurant-quality in flavour and presentation - not necessarily what one expects from a food truck. I had the kofta balls and loved them so much the next visit I had them again, plus a slice of cheesecake - SO GOOD. Thank you Zen!!!

A great little find in Murchison! We had been on the road for several days, and finding vegan food in small town New Zealand can be challenging! But this had all the options- burgers, sandwiches, soup, tacos and more. Delicious and really well priced. Served with compostable disposable plates and cutlery. Cold drinks and coffee too. Fabulous!

It was so nice to be able to stop by and buy vegan food when you're on a road trip. We had burger and quinoa-rice sushi and both were absolutely amazing, but the best thing was apple and pear strudel!!! Delicious. Hope it's open on our way back.

It’s surely must be the only vegan food available in Murchison and it is “one man show” which deserves a recognition. The choices are very limited and if you’re not a burger fan like me you may leave the place hungry ... the only dishes available on the day were the soup ,burger, focaccia which I couldn’t eat as I’m gluten intolerant. I had a soup which was ok but rather tasteless . Deserts looked ok but didn’t give it a go .
