The best Sunday dinner I’ve tasted in a long time - perfectly cooked and so full of flavour. I hope to return soon to try the other items on the menu.

Cardiff's Best Vegan Café - Edit
While there are more vegan options in chains and indies than ever before, sadly the vegan-owned businesses in Cardiff have struggled over the last couple of years and many have closed down.
Read moreThankfully Wild Thing is still going strong in its second iteration - the ethos of the business is great and it's matched by the food. Whether it's the Sunday roast (amazing) or brunch, the varied menu always delivers fresh, locally sourced, organic choices. The menu changes regularly so check online to see what's on offer.
Parking nearby can be tricky due to the location and book during busy times - and when the weather's good sit outside.

Cozy and delicious - Edit
We had a croissant with coffee and it was possibly the best vegan croissant I’ve ever had. Coffee was great too, and I love that their suppliers are related to fair and social causes.

Brunch Sat 23rd July - Edit
The staff were friendly and the food was gorgeous but after checking the website and naking a booking I was mislead into believing there would be more choice. Breakfast was: Smoothie/Cinnamon Bun/Bruschetta Pomo/Granola. There was no brunch option which was the reason we booked after seeing the menu. Coffee was outstanding 👌. Service was quite slow considering amount of staff and limited menu. Toilets are located in the community centre based behind the cafe
Read morePros: Don't have to worry about checking ingredients, Food was beautiful , Friendly Staff
Cons: No parking, Only 2 choices brunch - granola or bruschetta, Fairly Expensive

Lovely breakfast - Edit
Another wonderful find from Happy Cow - we chose Wild Thing as the menu looked great and they are one of the few breakfast places open at 9! We enjoyed a really delicious porridge with berries, nut butter and all sorts of toppings, and a pea/mint dip on toast with pickles and leaves. (Pancakes not available til 12.) The cafe is closely connected to a community centre next door (which seemed very popular with a group turning up to meet and chat in the garden despite the rain) and operates a pay-what-you-can system to offer good food to people who may not be able to afford it. Lovely food, friendly service and admirable ethics.

Amazing - Edit
Food was delicious and the cafe had a really warm cosy feel, they have a pay what you can policy which is amazing as I’m a student with not a lot of money. Despite this I made sure to pay enough as I’d love to see this place continuing. The staff were very sweet and I noticed that they were preparing food for a homeless woman outside who’d brought the money she’d collected that day. I wish there were more places like this around, I Couldn’t recommend visiting any more.

Nourishment for your body and soul. - Edit
Had an excellent meal here for lunch. Super friendly staff and explained everything very clearly. There are no prices on the menu and you pay what you can afford. They will give you a suggested value which is fairly reasonable but you are free to give what you want. The food was excellent and felt extremely healthy. Only a small menu but something for most people. Not an awful lot of tables inside but plenty outside if not too cold. Many are under cover outside. Great range of cakes and beetroot hot chocolate which was all very nice. Parking could be an issue but there is a handy car park nearby if you are okay with subterfuge. Loved the whole experience it really makes you question how much you pay for food and how grateful you should be that you can afford certain things in life.

Lovely find on my first morning in Cardiff. Delicious cardamom porridge bowl with in-house nut butter, yoghurt, berries and plums - delicious! 😍. Also relish was maple hot chocolate. There are very reasonable suggested prices, but you pay what you can afford. Brilliant place. Menus vary every two weeks.

This vegan café and charity is awesome.
Read moreIt's great to sit in the garden, in the community centre where they operate. It beautiful and there are some artworks all around, like music instruments on the walls.
The café operates on a What You Can Pay basis and offers meals to people that need them.
The food itself is spot on, delicious, refined and nutritious. The cakes are good and the hot beverages are great too - you can get some lavender hot chocolate and lavender golden mylk😄
The staff is kind and I went there twice, including to get breakfast with my partner for my birthday.

A chocolate lovers paradise - Edit
What a cosy dream this place is. I'm not vegan myself but after popping in for chocolate cake ( my go to) I fell in love with the shabby-chic decor and the sunshine green juice, and I'm thinking of ditching the bovine secretions for oat milk goodness. The staff are a delight and the music was very tasteful. Best desserts I've ever had, I felt like face planting the whole cake. ( i couldnt believe all their stuff is refined sugar and gluten free!!) Can't recommend highly enough

Good coffee - Edit
The coffee was great, as was the pottery it was served in that was rustic and gave it a personal, vintage touch. However it was quite crammed and there was a 'sweaty' smell in the air, maybe to do with the humidity. The exterior windows were really foggy so just giving them a wipe would really make the place look a lot nicer.
Read moreOur food was late and no apologies were offered when it finally arrived after we mentioned the delay; easily a forty minute wait. It seemed our order had been forgotten... The dressing on the salad was overwhelming and made it quite heavy overall, the food was filling although quite heavy. It wasn't exactly inexpensive, either.
Pros: Nice pottery and great coffee.
Cons: No apologies for late food, Unpleasant stale smell

Cardiff gem for vegans - Edit
All food is vegan, locally sourced & prepared to order. The menu has two or three main meals & a variety of snacks & cakes. I had a vegan hot chocolate which included beetroot juice & edible flower heads floating on top .... a refreshing change from synthetic whipped cream & marshmallows!
Read moreThe meals were wholesome, filling & tasty & presented by the chef & the owner who clearly cared very much about their new business & the food & drinks they serve.
There is a dish of the day on the menu which isn't priced but simply asks you to pay what you can afford.
There is a very relaxed, informal atmosphere, with some customers drinking coffee while using phones or laptops. One couple were dowsing following their meal.
I would thoroughly recommend this cafe to anyone who is thinks that vegan food is bland & boring, as well as vegetarians & vegans! I would love to see cafes like this in every town in the UK. Anyone considering opening a similar cafe will get much encouragement & inspiration from "Wild Thing".
