PIZZA PIZZA! - Edit
I love Wheat Penny. It’s a favorite spot for me and my coworkers to get carryout lunch or after-work dinner & a drink. The service is always amazing; staff are knowledgeable about vegan, and they’re so friendly. The Eggplant Fries are super popular (skip the yogurt sauce) - and they’re good, but they’re a bit on the salty side for me. I
Read moreMy tip: Try one of the vegan pizzas!! Their pizza crust is phenomenal - crispy on the bottom, and charred-chewy-air-pocket perfection on top. My repeat order is the ‘Unbeetable’ made vegan - it is SO SO GOOD with that beet pesto. The ‘Veganator’ pizza is a good one too, if you like smoked jackfruit.
Lately I’ve been trying the sandwiches. I was told any of them can be made vegan. They have a crispy cauliflower patty you can sub in on any sandwich and it’s 🫶🏼👌🏼👏🏼 ..definitely worth a try! The vegan items on this menu don’t feel like an afterthought.

Absolutely Amazing!!! - Edit
Wow. We had a great meal. Vegan and gluten-free. We started off with the mushroom soup which was fantastic and filling. The squash had great flavors, while the eggplant parmesan was flavorful and filling as well.

Our server JJ was great as well.

So delicious! - Edit
We really enjoyed our dinner at Wheat Penny! The staff is very knowledgeable about what vegan options they have and what can be made vegan. We made a four course meal that was just delicious! We got the focaccia bread and subbed their homemade cashew ricotta and added roasted cherry tomatoes. It was heavenly! Also got the kale salad (no cheese) and it was very good as well! For our main course we got the veganator pizza and dessert we had their vegan ice cream! It was all delicious and I highly recommend checking them out!

Vegan Pizza in the DYT - Edit
I ordered a scrumptious build your own pizza with vegan cheese, cashew ricotta, cherry tomatoes, and spinach. Exceptionally good yet very pricy. Best reserved for special occasions.

Underwhelmed - Edit
It’s relatively expensive and I got the fried cauliflower burger. It was okay, but the portion sizes were somewhat small for the price $14 I think? I could have made this meal at home and it would have tasted better and been cheaper. Maybe the other things are better on the menu, but for me it’s not worth the price.

This place was great. I went with my wife and parents. My wife and I are vegetarian and my parents are not and all 4 of us loved the food we got. I highly recommend this place for anyone with mixed diets in your party.

good vegan pizza - Edit
this is a nice place to sit down and enjoy some vegan pizza with friends and family. It's pretty good stuff too. and since there aren't a whole lot of places in Dayton to get vegan pizza, it's this or nothing! is recommend it.

Just okay. I may try it again but probably not. - Edit
Ever so often Dayton gets a new restaurant. Wheat Penny took over the original Coco's Bistro space and they filled it out well. I got excited about a new option in town so me and my boyfriend visited a few weeks ago. Tyler (non-vegan) ordered the eggplant fries as a app and the Mr. White pizza. He said the fries were terribly salty (too salty to actually eat, and he doesn't watch his sodium intake.) He told the server about it and the server said it wasn't a problem to remake them with less salt. They came out again and Tyler said they tasted exactly like the ones before. So that was a huge bummer since everyone around town was boasting how good they were. He said the pizza was tasty. I ordered a build my own pizza with a gluten free crust and a very "light" dusting of the daiya cheese (I find it highly over powering and just need a little for flavor) however when the pizza arrived, there was a healthy portion of daiya cheese ironically layered around the pizza despite my request. I didn't send it back because I was ravenous and just wanted to eat. It was just okay. Really, for a $18 pizza I would hope it was meet my expectations, alas it left me with an anti-climatic feeling. I may give Wheat Penny another chance and try the cauliflower T-bone, but I have a sneaky suspicion that I can make better food than the chefs they hired. I am not touting my own horn, just want my reviews to be as transparent as possible.
