Lovely - Edit
Really nice little cafe/bar/lounge thing with a few vegan options. Really enjoyed the breakfast and the smashed avocado was a nice touch too. £13.50 for breakfast and a tea was reasonable as well I feel

Great breakfast and lunch - Edit
Best vegan brekkie in Leeds. Their roasts are great too. They have vegan yorkshire puddings!! (They will also let you order the yorkie puds as a side to a cooked brekkie... Sounds weird but I loved it!)
Read moreThe staff are lovely and have an excellent understanding of veganism and getting the orders right, the menu is clearly labelled with lots of options too. Definitely recommend.

Good selection of Vegan food - Edit
Wapentake is an independent Bar with a kitchen and friendly staff . Cosy and quirky, there is seating downstairs and upstairs, also a small outdoor courtyard. I had the vegan sausage sandwich for a lunch snack. It was perfectly acceptable and reasonably priced. Nothing groundbreaking, but hey it’s just a sarnie ! They have plenty of choice for vegan customers from snacks, sandwiches to main meals. I shall be returning to try their vegan Sunday lunch as not many places do this . Worth a visit.

Cons: Could get a bit crowded as it’s small., Wheelchair users could find it a bit of a squeeze, Steep steps upstairs for folk with mobility issues

Does the Job - Edit
I had the vegan breakfast and it was good, nothing incredible but nothing bad. Wasn’t too expensive either. You do get half an avocado which I liked but other than that just your average vegan breakfast, would recommend.

Vegan options in a Yorkshire pub - Edit
Wapentake feels like a proper cosy rustic Yorkshire pub, but with an enticing little selection of vegan cakes sitting on the end of the bar. With the relaxed atmosphere and long opening hours, it's a place you can go for breakfast, dinner, tea and cake, or a pint.
Read moreIn December, we tried out their vegan christmas menu, which was a bargain at around £15 for three courses (given that many places will charge double that). I don't think I've ever been so stuffed in my life - each course was like a whole meal in itself! A huge bowl of delicious soup to start, followed by a glorious roast dinner complete with impressive vegan yorkshire puddings and nut roast, finished off with a giant wedge of chocolate tiffin. Seriously impressed. Plus the christmas tree in the corner was wearing a flat cap.
On another visit though, we were really put off by a loud crowd of men shouting aggressively at a football match being screened upstairs, where we also happened to be sitting. That was very unpleasant, so unfortunately we'll be sure to avoid Wapentake whenever there's any kind of match on in future.

Sunday brunch, hearty portions - Edit
Great stop for a Sunday brekkie/brunch! I ordered the vegan breakfast, so much food and very filling! There were also 2 vegan cake options which I got to take away. Again big portions. Staff were pleasant, prices were reasonable, food was good and service was quick.

mean man - lovely cake - Edit
had seen and heard so much good stuff online about this place. Disappointed by the mean man behind the counter that made us feel like we had inconvenienced him by not knowing exactly what we wanted before we arrived. sighed and rolled eyes at every question. would go back for the cake but would walk out if the mean man is there. Yes you may have had a bad day but wasn't me that made it so.

Carb loaded, bland & cold! - Edit
I opted not to try the hotel attempt at a vegan breakfast and tried this little indie café (support the non corporate, right). I was so disappointed. Flat white soya coffee weak and tepid. Vegan full bfast was £5.00. 2 slices of toast which turned out the best if it, 1 Linda McCarty sausage, 4 tiny shrivelled cold mushrooms, half grilled tom, charred potato wedges (suspect reheated from previous day?), glass jug of COLD beans, and small slices of brown avocado. Waitress very preoccupied with customer's dog so finally got to ask to heat up beans and point out gone off avocado. replaced beans slightly warmer but didn't replace avocado. I didn't get glass of water either. Left wedges and avocado but ate the rest as I was hungry. They didn't charge for the coffee but still felt really ripped off!!! Never to return and won't recommend.

Star Trekking Across the Universe - Edit
Oddly coming from the old Norse word vāpnatak, meaning to show one's weapons at a public vote this is a rather cool addition to the vibrant Leeds (Captain) Kirkgate scene. Leeds just keeps getting better every time I visit and her we have an artisan bakery, cafe and bar all in one. What intrigued me to take a closer look was the prominent vegan advertising outside. Everything is baked freshly on the premises including vegan cakes and breads. Inside, it's a bit like a traditional old bar, but very tastefully and authentically done. They have a great selection of some of Yorkshire's finest ales as well as marquee beers from continental Europe. You'll also see a vegan breakfast on offer here too but I doubt I would ever be up that early in Leeds to sample it. I will be sure to make another beeline for this place next time in this great city.

Cons: meat is served
