Whole-Food Plant-Based Omakase at New Location - Edit
Previously known as Back to Basic Living, Waka Mama pivoted to focus on an omakase private dining concept. It recently relocated and is no longer the smallest micro restaurant in Singapore. Instead, it now has a larger dining space with 16 seats. The new decor is DIY-ed using sustainable materials, plus there is a retail corner selling homemade eco-friendly products.
Read moreWhat remains constant is Chef Joyce’s dedication to crafting the finest gluten-free whole-food plant-based dishes! Mainly inspired by traditional Japanese Zen temple cuisine Shojin Ryori, there is also fusion influence from her extensive multicultural travelling and volunteering. Having graduated from the Matthew Kenney raw food institute in the U.S., there is an emphasis on natural ingredients with minimal salt / oil / sugar, as well as on gut-friendly fermented foods and raw vegan desserts. This wasn’t my first time trying her food, but still I was blown away by the exquisitely presented delicacies with a delightfully wholesome taste. My favourites included the chickpea miso grilled aubergine, smoked bacon enoki, and accompanying amaranth African chilli in the hassun; fatty tuna with caviar seeds, hamachi yellowtail with housemade black ikura, and uni sea urchin artisanal sushi; shark fin melon soup; as well as chilli and dried fruit chocolate bon bons. My non-veg companion was also intrigued by how unconventional the food was. Chef Joyce’s detailed explanations and stories elevated our appreciation of the food. Well worth the price considering the quality ingredients, skills, and effort that go into the cooking, since virtually everything is handmade from scratch for long hours. Chef Charles is also an expert at his craft, and together they put together a stunning dinner.
The items paired wonderfully with the selection of sake, including Umeshu Plum Whiskey, Orange Basil Cocktail, and Chocolate Sake. Non-alcoholic drinks were also available, and I fell in love with the Rainbow Moon Milk Latte!
This is a pet-friendly eatery, with a gentle and friendly schnoodle Momo as the in-house mascot and bouncer haha. There are also unique musical instruments such as a hangpan and drum, which we’re free to play with. Healthy mum-style cooking, happy vibes, and overall a joyful time!
Short walk from Haw Par Villa or Pasir Panjang MRT. A few À La Carte items available, though I would recommend the lunch set or omakase for the full experience, especially for special celebrations. Reservations needed!

For their set menu outdoor are not wasted our quota for our stomach , everything around 29-39 but all food guarantee delectable and even the drinks Chef Joyce prepared. She really using her heart and so much passion to cook with love. Earlier, gfs and I indulged in a delightful journey of flavors with @vegan_wakamama - wholesome plant-based gluten-free omakase. Chef Joyce does not add sugar and salt in her cooking. Superb culinary creations that you gotta try! @herbyvorefoods was used in one of the dish too 😍.
