Not even the slightest vegan - Edit
Most of the dishes have cheese or dairy. You have to modify to get it vegan. That being said, it's affordable and you get a lot for what you buy. The salads are good.

Not what it used to be - Edit
Vishnu is one of the first vegetarian restaurants in Costa Rica. Once known because of its pictures of Lord Krishna and his owner allowing hindu monks eat for free, it is now a well-established chain owned by the employees with a regular flow of people (vegetarian or not) eating there. Having frequented the place for years, I consider that while clean, affordable and friendly, the quality of the food is just about decent. The dish of the day is not good and the fast food they offer is just Ok and the portions have reduced in size and quality. The salads are good although they could be more creative with the dressings. Juices, salads and fruit salads are good. They cater for vegetarians but not such a variety for vegans. Cakes are nice and eggless but have diary. Warning: the cheese they use might not be vegetarian (it might have animal rennet, the waiters did not know)

Nos encanto conocer este lugar ya que somos vegetarianos y no es facil encontrar un lugar para comer sin preocuparnos.

VISHNU is alive and well in San Jose - Edit
A place to get a fast vegetarian meal, I had a remarkably good veggie burger, served hot on a large plate with lettuce, tomato and onion with fries. Reasonably priced with amazingly fast service, it's not gourmet, but definitely worth finding the place in a city with almost no street signs!
