Incredible Omakase Experience - Edit
Incredible sushi omakase experience!
Read more...and it's all plant based? I mean, come on!
Veggie Tempo & Sushi recently joined my list of top plant-based restaurants in Tokyo. Reservations are required and for just ¥6600, you are treated to an incredible 15-course meal created with such care and creativity that really hasn't been matched by any sushi restaurant I've had as a vegan.
We went through so many different plant-based varieties of sushi with the most intricate ingredients, my favorite being when they add basil oil on top of fresh grilled mushrooms and other veggies. By far these pieces of sushi are my favorite out of any restaurant I've tried (minus rolls, which are of course an American thing and we have great vegan sushi makis back in the States).
The two-hour experience was also complimented with a variety of other dishes that blew my mind and each dish would be introduced by the staff, both in Japanese and in English. We ended with the most delicious homemade noodles in a spicy broth and I wish I could replicate in my own kitchen.
Can't recommend this experience enough for anyone visiting Tokyo and is looking for a healthier, plant-based experience or something different from the usual touristy spots. Cheers to the team at veggie tempo for truly making this a magical experience. I hope to be back again someday!
Pros: Fully vegan omakase experience, Inventive nigiri sushi

Brilliant meal & experience - Edit
One of our favourite meals in Tokyo was here. This is an 8 seat restaurant where they make all of the food in front of you and then explain what each dish is. The food is all vegan and is a set meal that consists of 16 - 20 items. It is made by a team of two, one is a sushi chef specialising in vegetables and the other a French chef. This was a really great evening and really good value for money. I highly recommend this place if you are ever in Tokyo. You need to book in advance though. There is video on their Instagram page that was filmed when we were there, that shows the food off better than my pictures.

Amazing experience - Edit
A small vegan restaurant. Need reservation. Check times in their instagram. Apparently only works on Wed/Sat. The food was amazing and chefs tries their best to make you feel comfortable and understand what you are eating. It takes almost 2 hours, so go with time. Everything is done at the moment you are there and you can see it all. It was the restaurant I most enjoyed in Tokyo.

Wonderful evening - Edit
This was one of the highlights of out trip in Tokyo! 10/10, highly recommended!! Make a reservation and note that they are only open on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Read moreThe two hours we spent here were amazing - the host and sushi chef explained all of the dishes to us (in English) and took very good care of us. The dishes were prepared in front of us and it was very interesting to follow the process.
The dinner included more than 15 courses, both sushi and other dishes. The flavours and textures ranged from delicate to strong. Everything was extremely delicious. Well worth the price, and they even offered free drinks to everybody.

Absolutely unreal - one of the best meals I’ve ever had - Edit
This isn’t just the best meal I had in Tokyo, and not just the best meal I’ve had during a five-week trip in Asia. It is one of the best meals I have ever had. The chefs create true works of art in every bite. Everything was amazing and some of it was so incredible that I had a moment over it!
Read moreI never take pictures of food but I took a lot of photos of this meal because in addition to being delicious, it was also beautiful. This was better than the vegan catering I hired for my own wedding! I will dream of this meal for years to come. And for what you get the price point is incredible (though I grew up in NYC so my opinion is definitely skewed there). I expect this place will get a Michelin star or three in the future. It’s THAT good.
Several years ago I watched the documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi and felt sad because I knew that one day I would make it to Japan, and as a vegan of more than 20 years, I would be held out of the art of sushi. I remember wishing there was an artist like Jiro who made sushi without the cruelty. Tonight I found that artist, and I look forward to the documentaries that will be made about his unbelievable vegan sushi.
The kitchen chefs were also phenomenal. The only reason I didn’t finish my tan tan noodles was because I was so stuffed. The salt-crusted bamboo shoot was divine. And the tiny tempura beets with seaweed purée? Unreal.

Super experience with Chef’s Table - Edit
Run by Chefs Yamatoshi and Masa, this is an absolute hidden gem in the by lanes of Tokyo.
Read moreIt’s a small restaurant with seating for 8-10 though for the lunch buffet they can accommodate more.
Our dinner was a 2 hour affair with course after course prepared in front of us by Yamatoshi (the sushi chef) and Masa (for everyone else and also a specialist at Sherry wines). Each course was done with finesse and tasted amazing, including the sushi’s, the salads, the soup bowl, the tan tan rice, etc!
Personally, I didn’t like some of the more pungent ingredients, but my family loved it.
If you are Japanese, then the conversation is also fantastic. Since we didn’t understand the language and the others at the table were local, we missed out much of the conversation.
Yamatoshi keeps the tempo of the place up while Masa provides the heavier mains! #Veganuary
