Mediocre and disappointing - Edit
I truly, truly do not understand the hype behind Veggie Grill.
Read moreI was so excited to try once we got to Chicago, and it was disgusting. We visited back in June 2019.
I'm not sure how they fooled people into thinking frozen food you can buy from your local grocery store suffices?
The food is expensive and not worth the money in the slightest, we were both incredibly disappointed and didn't enjoy the meal. I wish I thought to take photos, but we got ramen, buffalo wings, and the kimchi beef bowl.
The ramen was bland, lacking flavor, and they added a re-heated Gardein chick'n patty and since it was sitting in the broth it was soggy (and not even cut - just a full patty). Kimchi bowl didn't have any flavors reminiscent to Korean flood in the slightest. It was cold and flavorless. Don't even get me started on the wings -- they were cold, soggy, and gross.
Awful food and an awful experience. I felt so bad for hyping it up to my boyfriend.
There are tons of better eats in Chicago.
Pros: Vegan
Cons: Expensive, Mediocre food

Good lunch place - Edit
Got the very hearty Rustic Farm Bowl. The mushrooms and sweet potato was great. Was a bit undersalted but they had a salt shaker near the condiment section. Friendly service as well.

Veggie Grill 🥦 - Edit
As a Chicago native (now living in London) it's nice to see how vegan-friendly Chicago is becoming. Fifteen years ago it wasn't very easy to be vegan here, so I appreciate VG giving Chicago a shot.
Read moreThis VG was a hop, skip, and a jump from my hotel, so it made for an excellent choice when I didn't want to go far. I think the rule of thumb here, is that the "vegan junk food" menu items are really the best tasting things here. I tried the quinoa bowl and was so disappointed, it was not good at all. However, the second time I got the steak and cheese burger (made with a Beyond Burger) and it was really good. In fact, this location cooked the Beyond Burger much better than other VG locations. Lastly, I really like their cauliflower mashed potatoes, they're delicious.
Overall, I'd say, give them a shot...try the vegan junk food though.
Would I eat here again? Why not? Yes.

100% vegan - Edit
Just grabbed the beyond patty melt and it was so good. Melty cheese and the beyond burger had no after taste like I have had at home. This was a great, quick on the go meal! (Ate it on the train home!)

Fast food vegan?! Yeah! - Edit
I’m from California and used to visit Veggie Grill’s restaurants. This one in Chicago as very good food, but the restaurant is not fancy or very cozy. But it’s a great place and choice for the vegans!

I’ve always thought Veggie Grill was just ok. I wouldn’t go out of my way for it. There are way better veg restaurants in Chicago. In the Loop, Native Foods is way better, imo.

We really enjoyed our b-wing salad, beyond burger, and quinoa kale Cesar salad. Then finished dinner off with an ice cream dessert. My veg-head kiddos gobbled it all up!!

Convenient - Edit
My first time at Veggie Grill, all vegan, though lots of processed mock meat kind of food, which is surprisingly close to the real thing as far as I remember. Restaurant is a fast food place, so if you are looking for this you are not doing anything wrong.

Ordered Delivery and it was a lifesaver - Edit
My wife and I were in Chicago for an engagement party and were in need of some vegan food. I found the Veggie Grill on Grubhub and ordered some food for the two of us. The food arrived quickly and it was delicious. It's possible that we were so hungry that it made the food taste better than what it was, but since we only ate there the 1 time, it is getting the benefit of the doubt. Great food and even greater that I could have it delivered on short notice.

Better than McDonald's because it's vegan - Edit
Typical Fast Food that is vegan. Nothing special. Geared towards new vegans or people who will try vegan food periodically. For longtime vegetarians it's really off putting to see "beef, pork, chicken," etc on the menu. Makes one lose their appetite to be honest. So go for burgers and fries or a salad. It's fine. I'll go back only if I'm desperate and forgot to bring my lunch. Misuse of science. Laboratory food.
Read morePros: Vegan , Decent quality , Loop location
Cons: No creativity. Science Laboratory food., I don't want to hear how close your burger etc, is to taste/texture of a real beef patty. Yuck.

can't go wrong here - Edit
Veggie Grill (both Chicago locations) has been a great addition to Chicago's vegan food scene. Everything is good--the standards, the seasonal menu items, all of it! They have a really well-made mobile app for ordering, and the rewards program regularly gives you discounts. And of course, all-vegan means no-stress when trying to decide what to order.

Pretty good - Edit
I had the Mediterranean Salad here and it was really good--loved the combo of harissa and hummus. My husband thought his burger was decent. We weren't blown away, but it's a nice all vegan place in River North. I definitely need to go back and try some of their other food.

Nothing exciting - Edit
I feel like this place is trying to be like Native Foods, but it’s not nearly as good. I’ve eaten here 3 times and there’s nothing I crave. Maybe their food is too dry. Not enough sauce/dressing? Idk. But there are way better options.
