Delicious ramen in a charming place - Edit
Vegan Ramen Towzen was a pleasant surprise, with perhaps the tastiest ramen I've ever had, served with gentle sweetness. I had the traditional ramen with the addition of chlorella, which I'd recommend (unless you're after a more traditional ramen). Service was very warm and helpful, with some English spoken.

Cute place - Edit
We chose both of the ramen, my favorite was the creamy mushroom one which was very creamy and delicious, the other one too but maybe too salty for me.

The best ramen! - Edit
I've eaten A LOT of ramen in Japan and this is by far the best. You can customise your meal to suit - level of spice, type of noodle, broth and size of noodle serving.

A little out of the way for some, but worth the trip and very reasonably priced.

Soooo Delicious - Edit
When I start planning the trip to Kyoto, I have heard of this vegan ramen restaurant quite a few times. Even non-vegans are highly recommended, and even say that it is much better than #ICHIRAN! The Chlorella ramen is rich in B12, and it tastes a bit like matcha. Because the soup base uses "no adjustment soy milk" as the main ingredient, it is very safe to drink the whole bowl! The grilled eggplant sushi, topped with some Japanese-style gravy, OMG, It was very rich in taste and delicious! !

無五辛豆乳拉麵 - Edit
所有餐點全素不含五辛,口味平實不死鹹!麵的份量可選S/M/L,個人覺得吃M還是算少(本人女生食量普通)或許可以選L份量較有飽足感。可加點茄子浦燒壽司,樸實的好味道。

Wow! - Edit
Just wow. based on the reviews here I expected it to be good but not this kind of good. The soup, the sushi, the ice cream...etc., all have such profound fragrance to them. A vegan MUST if you're in Kyoto. It's a bit far, like 30 minutes underground plus walk from Shijo station, but you will definitely thank yourself (and Towzen) for it. I personally am very grateful for the experience.

BEST ramen ever - Edit
I don’t know where to start really but the take home message is this place is a must for vegans visiting Kyoto...end of!
Read moreIt’s a little bit north but only 20mins door to door from Pontocho area.
Traditional Japanese restaurant, lovely surroundings and very comfortable/homely.
Now the food.... aubergine sushi was a masterpiece and melt in the mouth. The ramen was creamy, spicy (level of which can be ordered) with the most delicious noodles. The good thing is that portion size can be adapted to hunger and I finished off the large portion with no problems.
Dessert of hemp, charcoal and sesame ice cream was a truly unique and amazing taste.
Service was great.
I’m sad this place doesn’t exist in London as I would be a regular.
Pros: Food was amazing , Service was fab, Real Japanese feel
Cons: None

The best ramen in japan - Edit
With a title like that you are interested! This place is out of the way for tourist but worth the trek! You will be rewarded with not only the best food but a truly authentic experience. The ramen is the main part. All with soy milk, the broth is not only rich and creamy but also incredibly authentic. It is so hard to find a place that follows tradition but vegan! Every aspect is perfected from the basics up. Great noodles accompany the broth and the side dishes are also amazingly crafted. There’s recommend stops for food and then there’s never ever Miss in your lifetime or you WILL REGRET IT. This is one of those experiences. In a Japanese house sitting you are treated to kind service and good food. When I think of the perfect dining out experience I will you this as the pinnacle of perfection. Good ramen, good people, and good setting. Recommend - tantanmen and the eggplant sushi.

Yummy vegan ramen! - Edit
Very delicious! I tried the tantan-style spicy (level 3 spicy) vegan ramen and it was so tasty and satisfying. I was looking for a light dinner as I wasn't too hungry (had been eating too much good vegan food in Kyoto!!!) and so I didn't try their desserts, but they looked good too. They had some soy ice creams and chocolate cakes...
Read moreLoved the design of the shop, there is a little oasis-like garden / stepping-stone passageway at the entrance, a contrast to the busy streets outside. The interior is traditional Japanese-style with low tables and zabuton (cushion seats).

Best meal in Japan - Edit
My first ever Japanese ramen experience.
Read moreI had the TanTan ramen with soy meat. I chose spice level 4 and a side of rice.
Noodles were cooked to perfection in my opinion. Spice level was nice though I think I would choose spice level 5 next time. Broth was rich in flavour.
Portion size were enough to fill me up and I think the price was fair. 950 yen or the ramen and around 100 for the side of rice. If you like more you can add extra noodles for 150 yen. Service took less than 10 minutes.
The location is cool and off the beaten track.
The restaurant is small and you have an option of sitting on tatami or chairs.
Thank you for the meal.
Pros: Fair price, Nice interior, Cool location off the beaten track

Need to try it again - Edit
This was the first vegan ramen place we tried. Wanted the option of not having the soy “meat in there. Initially it tasted really good but it wasn’t spicy as we wanted it and the broth was something I prob need to try again. The atmosphere was nice and traditional. It’s a small place which also made it more personal. Felt like eating at someone’s home :)

One of the best Vegan Ramen experiences ever! - Edit
I went here on a Sunday night - didn't have any problems with table availability. It's very easy to miss as it is in a residential neighborhood nestled among houses in an alley. I believe the restaurant is actually the residential household of the owner. She was extremely nice and friendly. She does speak English and can explain the dishes if there is a doubt. I sat on the floor which made me feel like I was eating at home. Ambience was beautiful.
Read moreThe food - Goodness! Where do I start? The Ramen was so soupy and creamy and deliciously soul satisfying. I brought a non-vegan with me and he swore that this was the best noodles he had had, ever!
Totally worth the trip. Just one thing - since it's a house, photos are not allowed inside except for photos of the food itself.
Pros: Extremely delicious food, Amicable staff, Cozy ambiance

MUST READ... - Edit
This restaurant is super cute but very small. We waited for over an hour in the cold on a weeknight before being seated only to find out they had ran out of every option on the menu but 1. So we obviously had to choose that dish. In saying that the food was absolutely delicious, truly great vegan ramen and I would highly recommend food wise if your up for the wait. The staff are otherwise very friendly!

Best Vegetarian Ramen - Edit
This was a little hard to find but absolutely amazing. I've had vegetarian ramen before but nothing like the ramen I had at Towzen! I had the musashi ramen, with rich broth and it was unlike anything I've ever had before. If you're in Kyoto and looking for something to eat, I highly recommend you stop in at Towzen!!!

Worst Dining Experience at Dedicated Vegan Restaurant - Edit
Would give zero stars of it was allowed. We waited outside for over an hour in very cold weather to be seated. They did not allow us to wait inside even though there was an empty table for a reserved party. Service once inside was extremely slow, taking over 30 minutes to serve ramen, which typically has a service time of less than ten minutes. The food was uninspired and tasted only of sweet soymilk. There are better choices even within Kyoto. Dessert was similarly bad: cake was dry and ice cream was grainy. Perhaps the worst dining experience I've had at a dedicated vegan restaurant, ever.

Cons: slow service, bland food
