Cheap Vegan Meal - Edit
A good place for a simple and cheap meal. There are plenty of tasty options and the portions are good. However, if you're looking for a fancy location I would not recommend this restaurant. Vega City is more of a vegan homemade fast-food place for a hungry city break.

Cheap but a bit disappointing - Edit
This place feels like a school cafetaria. The food isn’t really better.. some of it was cold, soggy, bland.. It’s really cheap though, so I guess you get what you pay for.

Tasty filled croissant! - Edit
We had some delicious filled savoury croissants and coffee. There was a wide range of food, it all looked very healthy. Lots of locals bought tubs in and filled them up with things like stew to take home.

Really didn’t enjoy our experience here, the food was mostly bland and cold. Even for a buffet most I’ve been to have kept better temperatures than this. We were served lukewarm coffee and when we asked for a refund the coffees were

Good fast eating option for a good price - Edit
A self-service restaurant with lots of options to eat. Foods are simple, but well made. Do not expect high-end meals, but for the relatively low price you pay, you will get something decent. This is pretty rare in Budapest. Expect longer queues in the lunch hours.

We really liked the concept - Edit
We really liked the concept of seeing what you want to eat and not having to read a menu of names you don't know. The choice of dishes is large and can suit anyone. The food is fresh and delicious, the price is cheap and the place is pleasant.
Pros: Good food, Cheap

BEST Lunch Place - Edit
I absolutely ADORE Vega City. I come here nearly every weekday for lunch, even when there's a long line (which tells you just how popular this place is). I ordinarily opt for a main entree and then a piece or two of seitan/wheat burger, which comes out at around $4-5. What a bargain! It's easy to get a little overwhelmed at the choices and set-up, but don't hesitate to ask the staff any questions. They are all friendly and speak great English.

A bit deceived - Edit
You have to know what to choose as not everything is good, so it's not ideal for tourists. The food is not so good and there's a kilogram price for every different item, so it's a bit confused and slow.

Cheap lunch but confusing system - Edit
There are soooo many different items to choose from and different methods of combining them - really confusing.
Read moreI went for the daily menu thinking this would be the most straightforward thing but was still given a bunch of different options. They served up a grain base (choice of 2 types) a stew (choice of 2 types), plain salad, steamed veggies and a patty (choice of 2 types). So I ended up with buckwheat, split pea soup, veggies, salad and a wheat burger patty thing all piled on one plate, which was a strange combo. On the plus side it was a really big, filling plate of food for only 1200ft - bargain!!
They also have lots of other random items in the counter like sushi, burgers, pasta, cakes... However my boyfriend had a croissant and a burger which he didn’t enjoy at all. In particular the burger which was cold (I don’t think they reheat anything as it’s all pre-made), and all really dense and dry. I think my patty was the same as on his burger, but when cut up and mixed with all the other bits on the plate it was okay.
Also don’t forget the condiments just after you pay, to the left! I accidentally missed this section - a splash of oil, vinegar or chilli flakes would’ve definitely amped up my meal.
I would give this place another try, now that I have a bit more of an idea how it works. My boyfriend however was really put off and said he would never go back - I think that’s his fault for choosing the wrong dish haha (stubborn burger lover). I do wish the ordering system was more straightforward, with a smaller menu.
Pros: incredibly cheap for the city centre, big portions, lots of seating over 2 floors
Cons: overwhelming amount of options, varying quality of dishes

Good concept but not too well executed - Edit
This restaurant is a good concept! There's a queue out of the door at lunch time but it moves fairly quickly and if done well it could be worth the wait.
Read moreThere's a daily menu with a changing soup/stew/main dish/indian dish/pasta dish/side dish/GF side dish. There's a fixed price for the daily menu of 1200 HUF (£3.30-3.50) which is a great price. This menu is displayed outside so you can see whilst you're in the big queue.
However, upon getting to the front of the queue you are suddenly presented with other tasty items - there's a separate salad bar and a choice of burgers on one side, on the other side the daily dishes are displayed but also other items such as breaded cashew cheese, fried eggplant, battered tofu. You almost couldn't see these until it felt too late and some were paid for by weight, some by the item. Some of the menu was on a large chalkboard behind as well, which was quite useful!
I ended up getting the gyros bowl (1200 HUF) which was a very generous portion of the seitan gyros, salad, pitta, tahini sauce and choice of a side dish (millet, roast potatoes, or cous cous). The seitan was heavily seasoned, and it was unfortunately far too salty, my sister and I both thought the same. I can't bear wasting food so I ate it all and drank a lot of water! The rest was delicious, and perhaps I just got the bottom of the batch (it all sits in metal dishes canteen-style, so it's possible it over-marinated in that time). The bio-coffee was delicious, 550 HUF (£1.50-1.60) which I thought a very reasonable price! Bit confusing that you had to order it with the food, but the lady on the till kindly let us order when paying.
There was a large selection of vegan cakes that looked really good, we were too full to try them though!
I think if there were some clearer instructions, or perhaps if it was explained to you at the start when ordering it would work better. I didn't understand the salad bar bit and didn't fully understand the canteen bit, and as it was lunchtime it was a bit busy and it felt like they assumed we knew what we were doing. If we had more time I would have visited again to give it another go, would still recommend trying it out!
Pros: Cheap and tasty coffee, Lots of seating despite being busy, Potential to be a good restaurant
Cons: Confusing ordering system, Overly seasoned seitan :(

AMAZING!!! When I lived in Budapest and I would eat there 3 days a week at least - Edit
I really like this place because of its location, they have a really varied menu every week and I love that they always have a Hungarian dish, which is obviously vegan and that’s exceptional because Hungarian cuisine is quite meat-based.
