Veg is permanently closed - Edit
Veg is permanently closed. The owner closed shop about a month ago. She had been in the restaurant business for 20 years and decided it was time to do something else.

Okay - Edit
If the smell of fish or seafood bothers you, this probably isn't for you. I've eaten here a few times over the years. I've had wraps, the Portobello stack and salad. It would never be my pick for a place to go to, but I am open to it if someone else I am with wants to go here. I've always found the staff unfriendly and the food just okay. I hate the fish/seafood smell if they are making that.

I got their vegan buffalo cauliflower bites and caesar salad and they were both so good. Whatever dressing they put on the caesar is incredible it tastes just like the regular kind.

Place smells like fish / seafood - Edit
I have been here a few times. Probably won't return. Expensive for what you get and not very tasty or anything special. Rude staff multiple times. As a vegan having to smell fish and/or seafood at a restaurant is the worst! Also pretty small and claustrophobic. No outside seating.

Great! - Edit
Open as of Jan 2021. Great vegan options! Very clearly marked what is gluten-free and what is vegan. Lots of things on the menu that are original and worth trying - not things that I could make in my own kitchen😄they had specials for New Year's Eve dinner, which was special, including a vegan portabella Wellington!
Read moreEspecially notable that they have a large menu selection and hence something for everyone. My mom, who wanted noodles, got what she wanted. My dad, who wanted to try something vegan but flavorful, got the barbecue Jackfruit Bowl. I was able to get something healthy, vegan, and gluten-free. Satisfied diners all around!

Open, and still worth a visit! - Edit
My wife and I ate here many times at their old location, not far from where they've moved. With the pandemic, we've stuck close to home and got used to cooking in. That's getting old. We were in Sarasota mid-day today, and stopped in to see the new Veg - it's smaller, just a few tables, but luckily the food seems to be as good as always, based on our lunch! My favorites are still on the menu - today we split the Kung Pao Cauliflower Stir-Fry. Enough for us, and very tasty! Among other fond memories are the Silly Philly and the BBQ Jackfruit. Head on over - soup's on!

Cons: Only a few tables, perhaps for COVID distancing, Not a lot of parking

Wonderful Vegan Options - Edit
My husband and I visited Veg & Grill this week for lunch (after a hike), and ordered 4 entrees between us. We enjoyed the food very much, although we had some difficulty finding a side for the entrees. We tried the California Wrap - gave that a 10, the Buffalo Cauliflower rice bowl - a 10, the BBQ Sandwich got an 8, and the Avocado salad a 9. Very well presented and flavor profiles were well created. On the service end, we did find that in trying to accommodate some of our preferences - with substitutions, we felt like we were causing "problems". Having to check with the kitchen multiple times, some miscommunication and up-charging for things that we thought should be included... ended in a very expensive lunch bill. Overall the food was very good.

Cons: Substitutions not too easy, Limited side options

So delicious - Edit
Love this place. We came here for lunch and was completely satisfied. We got the California Wrap: avocado. Tempeh bacon, carrot, cucumber, onion, lettuce, tomato and blush sauce and Silly Philly: portables strips, grilled onions, red peppers with follow your heart cheese and horse radish. And for dessert, we had a vegan mocha mint cheesecake. Everything was so full of flavor.

Veg and Grill - Edit
The food's pretty good, though the price a bit high. I wish they wouldn't serve fish and call themselves "Veg." I've been a few times, and the entrees seemed a little small and not as special. I had some good sandwiches. I'm hoping they get more vegan options.

Enjoyed the ancient grain burger-delicious, great constancy, not mushy at all! The bun was warm and had just the right amount of crusty texture, the burger was served with a choice of coleslaw or fresh fruit.

Nice cozy little place with pretty good food - Edit
We visited Sarasota recently and were looking for a healthy place to eat, and we came across this little joint. It's a cozy little place - feels like you're eating in someone's home. The service was great. The food was not bad - nothing to write home about but okay. The cauliflower buffalo wings were good, we also ordered the Veggie Mess - which was a mish mash of a lot of stuff - it was alright and we had the pulled jackfruit bbq - that was pretty good. We had their mini cheesecake - it was delightful. All in all a good little place, a little pricey.
