very tasty food, lovely staff - Edit
We had diners every night at that restaurant that was just next to our hotel. Fresh food and extremely tasty. Loved it! Only downside was that it was no gluten free options except from rice and salads. They had really tasty vegan burgers and muffins but they had gluten.

Delicious - Edit
The restaurant was top notch, cosy and had a perfect location by the river. The food was amazing! We tried two of the three dinner plates, nr 1 and 3 if I'm not mistaken. I'm already looking forwars to try the last one! The appraisers were also good, the potato was a bit to salty, but the fried tofu (I think) was tasty.

Lovely cafe overlooking the Kamogawa River but overpriced dinner menu - Edit
Veg Out is situated at a very convenient location overlooking the beautiful Kamogawa River with an airy , bright space which is a great place to relax and work. The lunch plates are decorated beautifully and taste clean yet fairly delicious. I also like the vegan taco rice which is filled with lots of fresh vegetables and a tasty taco sauce. However, one of the problems I have with Veg Out is that the dinner menu is overpriced for what you get. The vegan steak for example is just a small piece of vegan patty that is priced at a whopping 1500 yen with no rice or accompanying salad. The fried rice is also measly and oily with under-seasoned tempeh even though you pay more than 1000 yen for it. The desserts are hit or miss, although the cheesecake and some of the muffins are nice. I heard that the raw cakes and carbonara are quite good. Overall I would recommend this place for lunch or a light meal in the day if you are in the area near Kyoto Station.

nice atmosphere, close to the centre, nice view - Edit
We went to Veg Out on our first night in Kyoto and enjoyed the view and atmosphere. We ordered the platter and had not realised that it would be cold. This was a bit of a disappointment but had we gone again we would've ordered something else. They were also not open on another occasion when their opening times suggested that they would be.

We got here a bit early for dinner/too late for lunch, so we didn't have much option here because of timing unfortunately, however the taco rice was yum and the view over the river was really beautiful. Would love to come back here again for lunch or dinner.

We just sat down to take a break and this was a really cost cafe by the river. It's a bit pricy, but the cheesecake we took was totally worth the money.

This was the best vegan food I have had in Japan so far. I got the big buddha bowl and it was really good! Some herb tea with it and I was full. Worth the money I would say.

Good Option! Nice View. Great drink! - Edit
I got the Buddha bowl, but was still hungry! I would go for the large size. I also tried two of their muffins to go. The lemon poppy seed was slightly flavorless, but the sweet potato was great! I got the Maya nut latte? It was sooo good! I could drink that every day. The food quality and setting is very nice : ) But, maybe not the best place if you are starving. You can just buy two muffins like I did and survive for the rest of the day : ) Staff was very nice!

Great location - Edit
This was one of my favourite places to eat on our trip to Japan. It's a great space overlooking the river. The portions are smaller but the quality of the food is excellent and it's satisfying. We had a rice dish, pickled vegetables, and the soup of the day. Service was friendly, highly recommend this place.

Many better option in Kyoto - Edit
I went there with my Canadian Friend but we were disappointed from the early dinner because too simple and not very tasty for some one travel in Kyoto, that is the Vegan Capital of Asia. Not Kyoto's food.

Definitely worth a visit - Edit
I ate lunch here, an 'open sandwich', could have had a bit more to it but all the flavours were delicious! Portions were a little small and I ended up spending more than I had on dinner the night before after adding a vegan muffin and the drink set beer. The place and view is nice and the staff are friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit.

Ok for lunch, nothing special for dinner - Edit
I went there in January for lunch and i liked it. Good portion (nothing special as a taste) and good service from a non-Japanese waiter.

Cons: Not a place for dinner, dinner food menu too simple and not attractive

The fried soy meet was very very good, definetly worth a try. The fried tempeh with the spicy peanut sauce was good, as was the cocoa-muffin. The soy-hamburger was a little bit insipid and nothing special.

We went to this place with a friend that didn't want to eat anything. The staff told us he had to order something to eat anyway, even if the restaurant was empty.

Cons: - everybody has to order something to eat, - a bit pricey compared to the portion size

Lovely restaurant in great location - Edit
Went here for lunch after visiting a nearby table. The restaurant opens at 11:30 but they let me in at 11:00 as there was nowhere else to go. I had the restaurant to myself and they even offered to start making lunch early for me. I had the set menu and it was delicious! I even asked for the recipe for the aubergine it was that good. Had an extra slice of quiche which was also great. The views near the window are also perfect on a sunny day. Couldn't recommend this place more!

Riverside gem - if only we had it back home... - Edit
This restaurant is very close to the Kyoto station and it happened to be a few minutes away from our rented apartment - such great karma we had! :) It truly has everything we wish for in a restaurant - coziness, delicious and authentic food, dedicated staff and unique style. We went there twice during our stay and were extremely satisfied with the lunch and dinner sets, together with some mouthwatering appetizers. With its magical river view and serene atmosphere, it just can't get any better. A true must!
