Favourite Vegan Spot in Kyoto - Edit
Tried this spot twice for lunch during a long weekend in Kyoto. There’s a view over the river, vintage records, an open kitchen which combined gives this place a lovely relaxed vibe.

Tasty food, warm service, lovely river view - Edit
I’ve enjoyed three meals at Veg Out, and all were delicious and well-balanced. The coconut curry, desserts and oolong kombucha are recommendable.
Read moreService is warm and helpful, with some English spoken. The view of the river from the window bar is charming. I’d visit more often if the menu had more options.
Enjoy!

Tasty vegan food by the river - Edit
Amazing vegan food, with seasonal vegetables that had so much flavour! We both had the tempeh BLT for lunch, which comes with soup and a salad, for drinks we had a tumeric latte and a bonsoy latte.

Location wise Veg Out is great, with a beautiful view of the river. It was fun to do some (water)birdwatching while waiting for our food :)

Fresh veggies - Edit
The vegetables were very fresh and almost raw. The dressing went really well with the salad and the mock meat on top.
Read moreThe set meal was pretty good with a lot of variety.
The small soup going with the meals were good aswell.
The portions were unexpectedly big and very filling.
It is a relaxed store with a nice view on the Kamogawa.
Went there for tea and a cake at around 3 pm. The matcha latte was good. The cake was a bit dry and crumbly which was a bit sad.

Great spot, even better food - Edit
When I stayed in Kyoto I would get a soy chai each day. The maple, walnut and cinnamon muffins are delcious, and for breakfast I'm sure everything on the menu is great but the tempeh BLT was out-of-this-world good and super filling. Nice view looking out over the river too, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff.

Lots of various toast/bread options for breakfast, and the coffee was delicious. Really loved the location and the beautiful view while enjoying a meal. The staff member that served us was a little cold, but perhaps he was just having a bad day!
Read moreUpdate: increasing from 4 to 5 stars, as it turns out there are very limited vegan breakfast options in Kyoto (at least around this area), and this was a fantastic breakfast. Delicious vegan food! - Edit
Veg Out is our favorite cafe in Kyoto. When we were here 5 years ago, we had breakfast here almost every day of our stay. It’s the same this time. The location (right next to the river — great birdwatching!), service, ambiance and food are wonderful. The vibe is relaxed and casual. The hot chocolate is perfection!

Great cafe and incredible view - Edit
This cafe was warmly recommended to us, we decided to go for breakfast. What is distinctive in Japan, as a rule, only a specific part of the menu is available, according to the time of day. Various toasts and granola were available for breakfast, and of course drinks. We ordered toast with tempeh and homemade granola with soy yogurt, cappuccino with oat milk and also matcha latte. The granola was incredibly delicious, as was the tempeh in the toast, the drinks are also very good. It may have taken a little while to cook, but quite a lot of people came at the same time, so I understand. Credit cards are accepted, and there is also a gorgeous view of the river from the window.

Healthy vegan lunch - Edit
Everything was fresh and flavorful. The homemade ginger ale was intense! The curry was good, but not amazing. The Buddha bowl was better, with what I believe was seitan tempura. I found the cake and muffin dry and crumbly, but interesting.

Make this top of the list for Kyoto.

Perfect soy latte and mocha.
Friendly and helpful staff
English language food and drinks menu.
Good prices.
We went back the next day at 3pm and they had had a busy day and virtually all the food was gone, so make sure you go early!
They did make us mocha coffees and we had the last 3 muffins.
Lovely river views and fresh air from open window..
I forgot to take photos of the food, so I took photos of the views!

Superb - Edit
I found this place 5 years ago and I’m so happy it’s still here and makes the freshest and healthiest food that also tastes fabulous. The homemade ginger ale has a good amount of ginger and a little sweetness. The vegout plate comes with steamed seasonal veggies, rice and falafel. The Buddha bowl with rice, salad and wheat gluten is also not heavy. There is room for cake. The chocolate nut pie was a perfect ending and not too sweet. There might be a waiting time as this place gets busy and nobody is asked to leave right away when done. Absolutely adorable staff.

Yummy vegan food with a fantastic view. - Edit
Completely vegan restaurant. Run by the same people of the yoga studio (Tamisa-Yoga) right next to it. Directly located at the Kamo river so you have a spectacular view while enjoying your food.
Read moreWent there for lunch at a saturday and had to wait 20 minutes because it was quite busy but the waiting was worth it.
They offer the 'Veg Out' Plate (Plate with vegetables and grains), a Buddha Bowl, a Tomato Coconut Curry and a Tacco Rice Bowl. I choose the Buddha Bowl and it was fantastic. They also have lots of desserts mostly cake and stuff like that from which I took a Matcha Soy Tiramisu which also was incredible yummy 🤤.
Clear recommendation 👍🏻.
Pros: Super nice and friendly staff., Cash and card payment., Fantastic view and location.
