Also serving lunch including large selection of sandwiches, soup, salads, desserts. vThe bread is locally sourced from the town bakery. Has Wi-Fi (maybe need to pay). Colorful chalkboard menu, poems painted on the walls and chairs that pay homage to cows, kids, nature and mother earth. The ice cream contains gelatin, but there is a small section of sorbet that is okay for vegetarians. Open Mon-Sat 11:00am-7:00pm.

The vegan sandwich is excellent

Spicy chickpeas on a delicious bun. Their ice tea is also super good.

Pros: Several veg food options, Delicious

Cons: Not enough dairy free ice cream

Nice Place

I tried their new Hippie Bowl! Very tasty and satisfying dish. It does contain one cooked egg though. It wasn't mixed in so I was able to just take it out. Next time I'll ask not to put it in.
Besides the small selection of sorbets they also carry their chocolate dipped frozen bananas.

You'll be back again and again

Valpo Velvet has upped it's game & is now more vegan-friendly than ever. They offer a new "Vegan Veggie Salad" that is phenomenal. They have a sign up that says any item can be veganized and they mean it because I veganize stuff every time I come here and they happily oblige.

They have an awesome sandwich board. Vegetarian/vegan sandwiches include:

Ooh La La - Sourdough bread topped with Havarti cheese, horseradish mustard, tomato, avocado and fresh spinach and a fried egg.

Popeye - homemade "everything bialy" layered with homemade cream cheese spread, fresh spinach, tomato, cucumber, red onion. Served with ranch dressing on the side for dippingl.

Say Cheese - Swiss, cheddar and provolone cheeses grilled on tomato basil bread. Add tomato ($.50).

The Veggie - Tomato basil bread, toasted with hummus, provolone, topped with letttuce, tomato, red onion, cucumber, artichokes. Drizzled lightly with homemade vinaigrette.

California Crunch salad (veg version): Mixed greens topped with scoop of hummus, pecans, avocado, artichokes, craisins, cucubers, tomato, homemade croutons and homemade vinagigrette.

Garden Grub on a Plate - plate with hummus, spinach dip, pita chips and cut up veggies.

You can also get any of their other subs made w/o meat like "The Pilgrim" - ask for no turkey, then it has swiss cheese and granny smith apple slices grilled warm on white bread with a bit of mayo and homemade cranberry sauce spread.

They also have soups, salads, fruit smoothies, old-fashioned phosphates and a super-friendly staff ..... can u tell I love this place?!

Note: Unfortunately, Valpo Velvet ice cream is still made with gelatin. However, they offer frozen bananas dipped in dark chocolate which are vegan. They also have a few sorbet flavors.

Update: Valpo Velvet keeps getting better! They now have a "Vegan Veggie Salad" and it's pure heaven: fresh greens with avocado, artichokes, tomato, cucumber. Mmmmm!

Also they have a sign that says any sandwich can be veganized.
