Sister cafe dinitha in grainger mkt - Edit
Ury have a Sri Lankan cafe in Grainger Market. There’s only one vegan option so it won’t get its own listing without adding more, bit it’s worth mentioning as the food is delicious, the menu changes and is very reasonably priced . Sells beer and wine

Nice meal out - Edit
We ate here in August 2018 and enjoyed it. Came again as a vegan runners group for Restaurant week in Jan 2023. Really good waiter looked after us. Recommend the korma! Decor a bit faded glory.

Delicious food, welcoming atmosphere - Edit
Lovely, friendly staff and delicious food. We had a good choice of starters, mains, rice and breads, all clearly marked for vegan and also gluten free, which was helpful for me too. All a reasonable price too.

Vegan Banquet - Edit
We went to Ury on Saturday for a birthday meal, we both had the vegan banquet (which isn't necessarily on the menu but they are able to do the vegetarian banquet vegan if you ask). The banquet included a variety of pompadoms and dips, a selection of starters, a selection of mains with a side of rice, and finally a mango sorbet for desert. Along with the dishes being delicious, it is great value for money, we both couldn't believe that the banquet is bottomless and we could order as many of the dishes as we wanted, we only managed to order an extra portion of rice because we were so full.

Alright but there are far better Indian restaurants nearby - Edit
We went to Ury last weekend as had been told they had a good vegan menu. Whilst there were 4-5 vegan options for the mains, which is nice, the portion sizes were very small for the price. Given there is a fully vegan Indian restaurant nearby, I'd prefer to go there instead.

A little bit of awesome - Edit
The food is stunning. Most of the vegetarian options are vegan, which is great see. The staff are so friendly, and will talk you through the menu, especially with regards to dietary requirements. Deserves 5 stars though happy cow won't allow it as it's not fully veg.

Amazing food and service! - Edit
(I would give 5 stars but I’m not able to as it isn’t a fully veg restaurant). A group of three of us (2 vegan) had wanted to try Ury for a while but had never got round to it. Last night we dropped in with no reservation, the staff were so friendly and took us to a table. We explained we were vegan and I’ve never had such a good reaction in a non-veg restaurant before! It was absolutely no problem at all. We all went for the tasting menu (£24 for vegan). We had a basket of different poppadoms and loads of dips - all amazing, particularly the beetroot and red onion one. Then we had a selection of starters - aubergine, a little dosa, and a potato ball (I wish I’d remembered their actual names..!). They were so so good, I could probably eat only that dosa for the rest of my life and be happy! Then we had three different curries, two different rices, and a bread - they were all so different and tasty. We were SO full - I think the waiter realised and offered to give us a little rest before the main courses which was very much appreciated. Then for pudding we had a mango sorbet which wasn’t like the generic, boring vegan pudding option you usually get. It was the best sorbet I’ve ever had! It had little chunks of mango in and was just so so great. And the portion wasn’t overwhelming - just a nice little end to the meal. This is BY FAR the best Indian restaurant any of us have ever visited in Newcastle - the quest for a great Indian restaurant is finally over!

Awesome Dosa! - Edit
This place had a large selection of vegetarian and vegan food. Specialists in Kerala cuisine, you have to try Dosa, which does not disappoint. We were with kids and were a little disappointed that we were unable to vary the spicyness of some dishes. But we all managed to eat very well.

Essential Indian Cuisine - Edit
Ury is a must visit and is by far the best Indian restaurant in Newcastle. I have visited a number of times and had the pleasure of sampling the many creative vegan options from their menu. From the cherupayer curry, nair dosa, kathrika or kayi curry, you will not be disappointed. All these dishes are beautifully prepared with such fantastic flavours. My most recent visit was during vegan week where my wife and I ordered the medhu vadai, aloo bonda, vazhuthanangha curry and thakkali payaru curry with a mango sorbet for dessert, all for just £15pp. After polishing off the tasty assorted pickle dips and snacks, our starters arrived. The medhu vadai (donut shaped dumplings) and aloo bonda (potato balls) were excellent and were accompanied with some delicious tasting dips. It was the mains that stole the show though. The thakkali paparu curry consisting of black eye beans cooked in coconut milk with fresh ingredients and spices had such a depth of flavour, whilst the vazhuthanangha curry (creamy aubergine curry) left us speechless it was that amazing. To finish we were served a mango sorbet that helped refresh our palates. The staff at Ury are excellent and so helpful. When paying our bill we asked if the vegan week menu options such as the vazhuthanangha curry could be ordered on the normal menu, they said that it would be no problem and to just state we wanted it vegan on our next visit.

Had a great night night and have to thank the Newcastle ambassador for meeting me and suggesting Ury.

Poppadoms of all shapes and sizes and 7 dips to go with them.
I had disappeared with sambar gravy and it was really a big thumbs up. Normally avoid the dosa as they are small and poor value for money, not at Ury.
Can't recommend enough.

I came here for dinner whilst staying overnight in Newcastle for work on a colleague's recommendation. The food was pretty good although I was disappointed to see that vegan options weren't marked on the menu. The staff were very friendly and helpful though, and I definitely very much enjoyed my starter and masala dosa!

Great Food - Edit
I've been here a few times now & I really like the place. The staff have been really helpful and friendly every time I've been. They have a good selection of plant based dishes, quite a lot are vegan already but they were more than happy to adapt some of the vegatarian ones, to make them vegan, upon request. If you go at lunch time you can get some very resonable deals too. I prefer this type of Keralan food, to the usual fare that you get at curry houses in this country. Overall a really good place.

Ury Authentic Indian Cuisine Newcastle - Edit
Visited Ury twice after seeing brilliant reviews on tripadvisor and on here. Both times we received excellent service from informed staff who were happy to recommend vegan options. The first time I went with my boyfriend and another couple. We were all very happy with the food (my friend said his meal, which was a chicken curry and the special of the day, was the nicest he's ever had!) Will definitely continue to visit, the staff are all very friendly and recommend what dishes go best together etc.

Top quality - Edit
I really like this restaurant. It is situated in a lovely area of the quayside, not far from bustling bars and a short walk from the town centre. The staff are very friendly and helpful and you are made to feel welcome as soon as you enter. The interior is smart and comfortable. It certainly doesn't feel like veg options are just a reluctant add on here with such a high selection of the menu being vegetarian or vegan and the dishes we enjoyed were so creative and tasty. I think this is a good place to impress friends with a top class dining experience.

First Man in Space? - Edit
That'll be 'Yuri' Gagarin not 'Ury'. A Ury is a Kerali word for a rig that is attached to a ceiling with coir ropes used to keep and preserve food for longer periods in clay pots at a certain height above ground level. This comes from the Ury website, which is both very informative and beautifully designed. First of all, the vegetarian and vegan choice here is excellent, if not astonishing. There is an array of meat free starters, traditional Southern Indian curry main courses, dosas and side dishes. It's glorious. We arrived at their Newcastle quayside location at around 2pm on a Saturday for lunch fully aware of the 3pm closing but at no point during our epic 100 minute dining experience did we feel rushed. To start we had the Kathrika ("Finely sliced pieces of aubergines dipped in a special batter, blended with coriander and chilli, before frying. Served with fresh tomato chutney"). They were delicately delicious. We also had a few samples of the other vegetarian starters. They were all superb but I'd like to highlight the Banana Pori as being quite exceptional ("Ripe plantains dipped in rice and chickpea batter with tampered black sesame seeds served with peanut and ginger chutney"). For the main course we had the Masala Dosa which in my opinion deserves an award as the best dosa I have ever had ("A paper thin pancake made of rice and black gram folded in half with a filling of spicy potatoes cooked with onions and ginger and served with sambar and coconut chutney"). The crispy exterior was a gastronomic delight and the filling equally as good. We also went for the Cheera Parippu Curry ("Fresh spinach and toor dal cooked in thick sauce of garlic and green peppers, flavoured with curry leaves") served with boiled rice. This was very subtly spiced and full of goodness. Yuri clearly take vegetarian / vegan cooking extremely seriously, they even hold vegetarian cooking demonstration evenings where you get to sample the finest creations from their top chefs. Without a blink of an eye we will be back. The staff are friendly, welcoming and very proud of their restaurant. If this place was 100% meat free I would have given 5 happy cows if it was permitted on the website but of course I am only able to give it 4 which is due to the fact that meat is also served on the premises.
