Limited menu mornings, full menu from 10am, last order 30 minutes before closing. It's inside JR Ueno Station in Ecute shopping center on the 3rd floor, above platform 8 at the northern part of the station. Open Mon-Fri 10:00am-10:00pm, Sat-Sun 10:00am-9:00pm. Last order 30min before closing.

Google maps is not helpful in finding this place so I want to help you out instead. First, please know that this location is INSIDE the train station BEHIND the turnstiles/ticket gates. That means you can not eat here without either already being in the station for travel or buying a ticket to get in, which is what we did. We chose the cheapest fare which was 150 yen, not bad and worth it to eat at T’s because it’s also a cheap meal. Navigate to the Ueno Park subway exit using Google then enter the gates there to find it. The turnstile was angry at us when we tried to use the tickets to leave but we spoke briefly to the operator behind the glass and even though he spoke no English he knew exactly what was up when I said “ramen” and let us right through back outside after.

T’s is fast food ramen so it’s pre-prepared broth and served very quickly, most likely in under 10 min even when busy. That also means you can’t modify your order so you can’t add garlic to a ramen without it, or make a spicy broth not spicy, for example. We confirmed with a quick google search that “suitable for oriental vegan” written on the menu means that they are made without the “5 pungent spices” which are garlic, onion, chives, shallot, and leek. However if you can’t live without those there is one ramen option on the menu, black sesame ramen, that is made with garlic et al, so that’s what I ordered. It was delicious! Caution, though, that this is a spicy dish. I can handle spice as long as it’s not too extreme and it was fine for me. It’s a spice that builds over time. My partner had the golden sesame ramen since he is a self-proclaimed Spice Wimp and we both thought it was plenty flavorful and delicious even without the “pungent” spices so we recommend both dishes! He also ordered a side of the vegan cheese because we were curious what it would be like and it was quite good if you like plant cheeses, I’d describe it as buttery. You can put it in your ramen and make it a bit melty if you’d like.

I ordered the black sesame ramen with a side of gyoza and rice. Gyoza are amazing! Must try! The black sesame ramen was also quite good. Kind of hard to find- located near the ueno park subway exit. However, it is labeled on the maps in the mall.

They have a small menu with about 4 different ramen, one of them cold with konjak noodles. You can add some extra small dishes like the genious vegan cheese! Or Gyoza, or soy meat with rice etc.

Definitely try if you are in Tokyo. There is not so much to find as I expected. Kyoto and Osaka offer more vegan restaurants/food.
Unfortunately, you can only reach it behind the JR Subway gates and therefore have to pay to get to the restaurant. But it is worth it!

Read moreThe second night I had the cold black sesame tan tan and it was still tasty, but I enjoyed it less. I'm looking forward to try the Yuzu ramen next time!
I also enjoyed the small bowl of rice with soy protein, and the soy yoghurt with jam as a dessert. I enjoyed the gyoza a little bit less.
But overall an excellent vegan place and very reasonably priced.

Zoals de andere dependances van T's tantan is deze ook zeer goed. Het eten is heerlijk en de mensen zijn aardig. Ik had niet door dat ik het verkeerde had gekregen dus toen ik al bijna halverwege was kwamen ze naar me toe om aan te bieden of ik het wou ruilen. Erg aardig, aangezien ik het zelf nog niet eens had opgemerkt.

The perfect ramen - Edit
After a long warm day exploring Ueno my first taste of T's Tantan quickly brought my mood up. The staff who served us was quick to tend to us and was very kind throughout. The cold special Ramen we got was the perfect treat and filled us even though we hadn't eaten in a while. I can't recommend T's Tantan enough if you want vegan ramen this is the place to go.
