Good choice for lunch near the museums

This small Japanese restaurant can get crowded but it's worth a visit. It has a good selection of vegan dishes, including a vegan cheesecake for dessert.
It's all the Japanese home cooking classics like curry and rice bowls, I was very happy to find they served Japanese potato salad which I have never seen anywhere else (it's nice!).

Pros: Good menu

Cons: Can get crowded

Yummy for your tummy :)

A small but fine selection of vegan dishes. The matcha cake is exceptionally good.
Could offer more vegan options in the future, there is great potential.

Delicious!

Wow, the food here was amazing! I tried the pumpkin katsu curry and the miso soup. The pumpkin katsu curry was incredible! I was shocked at how well the pumpkin worked in the dish. Delicious curry paired with crunchy fried cutlets, it was amazing! The miso soup was almost a bit too salty, but it was still pretty good. Definitely recommend coming here if you love this type of food!

Nice range of vegan options

Really enjoyed my lunch at Tombo. There was a good variety of vegan options, good service and the food came quickly. Nice calm atmosphere compared to the other places to eat nearby! Food was really tasty.

Pretty good for vegan options

As there is lack of fully vegan/vegetarian restaurants in this area, we went to Tombo for dinner. They have a few vegan options which are pretty good.

Ideal lunch spot with must-have matcha

Came here for a quick lunch after being in the museums, and had bento, sushi, and matcha. Matcha was for sure the star of the show

Pros: amazing matcha, plenty of choice, beautifully presented

Cons: Servers could be more attentive, More vegan desserts?

Delicious healthy meal

I had a vegan pumpkin donburi and a iced oat matcha. The matcha was pretty good, but the donburi I found to be outstanding. The setting is quite nice, and I found the service to be quite good.

Delicious!

Found this place after going to the Natural History Museum and before heading to the theatre. Took my food to do but the “to go” service was great, and the containers used were all recyclable too. Even after transporting it 30 mins on the Underground in the rain.. still so delicious! The Eggplant Poke Bowl (don’t remember the exact name) was insanely good and I def had to try the Matcha Cheesecake! It was also good but the Poke bowl was probably better. These were the only things I tried but both were great!

We went here for a little afternoon matcha latte and cheesecake and it was delicious. The matcha was served boiling hot but tasty nevertheless. Would definitely come back for the cake!

Vegan Takoyaki!

Was very pleasantly surprised by the vegan options here, several items were marked 'New' on the menu including the delicious vegan takoyaki (an edamame bean instead of octopus). I had the mapo tofu for main but there were several things to choose from among poke, ramen, curry and donburi. I had melonpan (with an oat cream) for dessert but it was a little disappointing, compared to the melonpan I had in Japan - should have maybe chosen the matcha cheesecake instead. All in all great little spot with something to please both vegans and non-vegans, my partner said his salmon poke dish was delicious as well.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Reasonable price for London, Cute decor

Cons: Service became a little slow when they got busy

Tombo

Tombo is a Japanese restaurant that offers many vegan options. I ordered a kale salad as a starter and was actually shocked by how small it was given it was 3.80 GBP (~5.00 USD), it was a good salad but could have been much larger for the price. The Yasai Ramen is vegan but I think it might need some work. The soup tasted very bland and needed salt...let's just say I never salted a ramen in my life until last night. The noodles in the soup tasted like those you'd expect in Italian spaghetti, not Japanese ramen, so this was disappointing. Excited by the existence of a vegan matcha cheesecake, I ordered dessert but only to be left slightly disappointed. The cheesecake itself was very pretty, but the cheesecake might have had too much matcha in it, I wouldn't order it again.

If I were to factor service into my rating, I'd rate Tombo 2 stars. The service was really bad. The waiter mixed up our order and then kept forgetting items. We were served our food with no utensils and no one came by for 10 minutes to give us any. I eventually got up and requested utensils but even then it took a long time for them to bring some. I should have removed the 12.5% auto tip, but I was being nice by leaving it.

Overall, the price for two people for the kale salad + 1 vegan ramen + 1 katsu + 1 sake + 1 beer + 1 slice of matcha cheesecake cost $74 USD...totally not worth it.

As of now, I'm not sure I'd go back to Tombo.

Delicious vegan options!

Ordered a takeaway: veggie gyoza, vegan ramen and vegan matcha cheesecake - everything was delicious. Kudos for the cheesecake, was really good. The order came in a 100% degradable bag and the food in a recyclable packaging. I recommend trying their food!

Drowned in salt

We tried both the vegan poke bowls which has some really interesting ingredients but the taste was spoilt with very liberal use of salt.
Pleased that more and more restaurants have vegan options but we’re going to give this one a miss in the future.

Pros: Quite a few vegan options, Reasonably priced

Cons: Dishes overpowered by salt
