Great snack!! INCREDIBLE waffle - Edit
Made our way here after the Nijo Castle. WOW!! We planned it for a lunch stop but it’s more of a snack place. It’s a literal tofu shop and there’s no place to sit or order. There is no menu; you can pick from the tofu waffle (toffle), cookies, or take home packages of tofu. The toffle is incredible. Best tofu I’ve had while in Japan and would love to get a recipe. You need to try it!!

Must try! 🌱 🍢🧇 - Edit
🧇 Tofu Waffle (280¥ or 310¥ | 1.8$ or 2$)
Read moreDifferent variations available. Best when still warm. Absolutely a must try. Incredible what can be made out of tofu.
🌳 Recommend to grab in and take it to the nearby national garden to eat there!
🍔 Okara Patty (350¥ | 2.3$)
Okara is a byproduct of soybean processing. They've made a burger patty which was crazy delicious.

Tofu was great - Edit
We arrived an hour after they opened and they didn’t have any waffles made yet. They said they usually have them around 11:30. We got some of their fried tofu and brought it back to the hotel and ate it over rice. Super yummy!

Only fried tofu at 2pm - Edit
Super cute shop. Real tofu production in a 200 years old style. Unfortunately, it is better go middle morning. At 14 it was only basic fried tofu blocks.

Waffle-y Good - Edit
Took a (packed) bus across town and got the last 2 waffles (it was about 13:00). One plain, one raisin. Well worth the effort - they were both amazing

I'd highly recomend this one, its definetly a hidden gem. I only tried the tofu waffles but they were really great, so I went a second time on the next day:) one waffle is just 270 yen and the shop owner is a very lovely man:))I wouldnt go as soon as the shop opens as there were no waffles yet, so maybe wait an hour or two

Lovely tofu shop - Edit
We got soy milks and tofu waffles. The soy milks were so lovely, so creamy, like drinking straight silken tofu. The waffles were divine. Would've liked to try his other tofu options but we were in a hurry!

A precious tofu shop in Japan - Edit
This tofu shop(Iriyama Tofu) continues to make tofu in the traditional way using delicious underground water. Take-out only.
Read moreThere are not only simple tofu and fried tofu, but also Vegan side dishes(2 kinds) made with organic vegetables and tofu. Vegan waffles are also available. The Vegan dishes are made on Tuesdays and Saturdays and the menu is posted on twitter.
All are delicious, but I recommend you try the thick fried tofu grilled at home and served with soy sauce.
And it's not just the tofu, the owner is friendly.

To all the vegans foodies out there! - Edit
This place was great! Although it is very small and has no tables(take out only) it was nice to see a real traditional japanese tofu store and try it's products. Everything was handmade and fresh from the day! The soy donut was absolutely delicious and I drank the best soy milk ever (nothing you can compare to store soy milk). They also had fryed tofu buns and carrot cakes made without dairy and eggs. From inside the store we can see all the equipment used in the production of their products and we can see their technique of work. I recommend this place to all of the curious vegans who want to see an authentic japanese tofu shop (not the tourist stuff) and to those who wanna try some fresh soy products! It's worth the stop and I will go back for sure during my stay to try the carrot cake and get more soy donuts!

A piece of history that you can eat. For die-hard tofu lovers only - Edit
This is a tofu shop. There was not table with seats. It is not a restaurant that serves meals. We got donuts and soy milk to go. The prepared tofu was plain cooked tofu with a couple of prepared sauces you could buy and eat but it is just tofu. It would be best to make a meal with if you had a place to cook.

Incredible tofu and soy milk! - Edit
The tofu here is light and made fresh daily. You can get to go or served on a small table outside. Fried, fried with veggie, and grilled are all options. Everything is vegan as long as you say no to the bonito flakes.
Read moreThe soy milk has a wonderful texture and taste, and is like nothing you can buy in stores. You can also buy soy donuts, which we were assured had no eggs or dairy.
Pros: Great vegan options, Nearby attractions, English friendly

Old Tofu Shop - Edit
This place sells tofu and soy milk fresh made daily. There is fresh tofu, fried tofu and fresh made soy milk which is served in take away cups. You just need to ask for what you want because there are no signs. The tofu and soy milk are vegan and delicious. It’s an old shop using traditional methods. Not much English is spoken by owner but enough to get by.
