Excellent meal

We'd popped over to the Netherlands for a day trip from Belgium in the hopes of finding a wider selection of veggie food (we're not vegan).

The very friendly and helpful staff member had told us that alsothough it was like tapas, the portions were larger. Rather than try and work out what options to have, we went for the cheaper of the set menus (€31.50 per person, minimum of 2 people having the veggie option). Apparently the more expensive one comes with more expensive ingredients, but I thought that for the veggie option that wasn't needed.

After about 15 mins, we were presented with: Deep fried olives in breadcrumbs, Beetroot carpaccio with olives, sour cream and sprouted beans, tomato & pepper soup, fresh bread and tortilla chips, garlic mayo and another tomato mayo.

We should have given them some pointers as to what we don't like - my wife doesn't like olives but she did eat some of the fried ones - they were 'acceptable' to her and delicious to me. Flavours were all great.

I though this looked reasonably good value for a complete meal in a posh restaurant... But then came the second course.

Chips (french fries to some of you), a large salad, vegan meatballs in tomato sauce and two brocolli & goats cheese tortillas. "Go easy on the chips" we were warned. Neither of us like goats cheese, but we ate it anyway (OK - I left the cheese).

We were asked if we wanted a break before the next course. "Next course?"

20 mins later, vegan fried chicken in a garlicy sauce (really good texture), Potatas Bravas (Dutch influence here - mayo and chilli sauce, rather than tomato chilli sauce), garlic mushrooms and home made onion rings.

Another break, then came, I'm delighted to say, only one plate each for pudding - vanilla ice cream and fried milk (a sort of thick custard square in breadcrumbs).

We were a little light on drinks - just water for me as i was driving and a glass of wine for my wife.

All in all - outstanding value and very, very good flavours.

I understand that they can do a vegan set menu with 24 hours notice.

If you're in Northwest Belgium (where veggie food is hard to find) or this small part of the Netherlands, I strongly recommend it. Next time I'll not eat at lunchtime in preparation!

Pros: Value!, Friendly staff, Wonderful flavours.

Cons: Not many low sugar, non-alcoholic drinks
