Overpriced - Edit
Came in on a night that wasn’t super busy, service was painfully slow. Many vegan options but it’s super expensive for what you get / small ish portions. The vegan menu seems to be entirely GF which is cool but the bun was extremely small and not great for that reason. Burger was just okay and the jackfruit tacos were a solid 7/10 but again, very small portions especially for the price point. Ranch dressing was actually disgusting. They use Beyond products and daiya cheeses. Probably will not return.

Vegan *choices* on a pub-style menu (i.e., not just "here's a salad") - Edit
We've been to $3 Deweys many times, including before the new ownership and before becoming vegan. Since then, they have an entire menu area dedicated to vegan and GF options. Not just a salad, or a Beyond Burger, so I actually have to decide between options, which is refreshing.
Read moreAs others have said, it's not health food, but it's hearty and satisfying. They do have a roasted veggie stir fry that sounds totally yummy.
I had the Toasted Tofu and Avocado Sandwich: marinated tofu, avocado spread, caramelized onions, arugula, GF local bread, vegan ranch dressing, with fries. Really tasty, and I don't know if it was the flavor combinations or that we were a couple hundred feet from Casco Bay, but it had a strange fried-fish-like flavor, which was okay with me. (I loved fried haddock sandwiches in my pre-veg days!)
Last visit I had the Jackfruit pulled pork sandwich with veg coleslaw. Really good.
Next time I'm eager to try the vegan Poutine!
Pros: More than a dozen vegan choices, Helpful staff, Comfy pub atmosphere right in the Old Port
Cons: Beyond Burger/Sausage comprise many choices

Delicious Greasy Bar food - Edit
Staff is knowledgeable and the menu is well marked. All vegan options are gluten free for people who are sensitive to gluten or have wheat allergies.
Read moreThis is not the option for you if you are looking for healthy options, everything is in a layer of fat, deep fried, and amazing for the cheat days. Keeps you full for hours.
Try the brussel sprouts on the app menu and I hear they are coming up with vegan desserts soon!

Fantastic place w/ lots of vegan options! - Edit
Older reviews of Three Dollar Deweys made my husband and I leery of checking it out during our visit to Portland, Maine, but the option of vegan nachos helped us persevere. Upon entering the establishment, we were immediately impressed. It appears that Three Dollar Deweys recently underwent a renovation to their building and menu. A new owner now runs the joint and it was very busy, so they must be doing a good job.
Read moreWe were greeted right away, sat quickly and all the servers and staff were knowledgeable about the vegan options. We stayed in Portland for a week and I ate here four times, my husband three. That's how good the food and service are at Three Dollar Deweys.
Over our multiple visits, we had the vegan Jackfruit Pulled Pork Nachos with guac, the Brew Pub Sprouts (twice), the Vegetable Chili (ask for no cheese to make it vegan or add their homemade vegan cheese/queso), the Avocado Ensalada (with a side of vegan ranch), the half size House Salad (still a huge amount), a Dewey's Beyond Burger w/ jackfruit pulled pork and the Beyond Sausage Dewey's Loaded Dog. Everything was freakin' amazing. The vegan sandwiches/burgers come with little skewers in them noting that their vegan, so there's no confusion or mix ups.
If we had to pick our favs, my husband loved the Dewey's Beyond Burger and I loved the Avocado Ensalada and Chili. I love a good salad and these were some of the best I've ever had. Their portions were huge, had fresh greens, lots of toppings and they didn't bat an eye when I asked for extra vegan ranch, in addition to the zesty, citrus dressing that comes on the salad. The chili was hearty, filling and delicious. My husband raved about his burger all night and even the next day - he's a burger lover.
They also serve strong ass drinks, have a wide selection of beers and have free popcorn for all patrons, although we didn't ask if it was vegan or not. A server also mentioned that one of their cooks is vegan, so she ran back to ask him a question about an item we ordered off the non-vegan menu. The prices are quite high but as visitors, we thought a lot of Portland restaurants had higher prices than were accustomed to back home. Give Three Dollar Deweys a try today!
Pros: Menu has vegan section! Other veg options marked, Everything was delicious, Fun place w/ knowledgeable staff
Cons: Pricey, Can get loud

Not Good, even for bar food. - Edit
How is it so impossible to get a decent meal in what is supposed to be a “foodie” town?! This was bad.... even as basic, no frills, bar food.... it was bad. And so expensive, I assume because of the location. Not worth it!!
Read morePros: They have vegan option if you’re desperate.
Cons: Worst veggie burger I’ve had in years.... YEARS.

Came here with a group because the menu had something for everyone. I had the vegan fried tofu sandwich was was reminiscent of a fried chicken sandwich. It was absolutely delicious and the fries were great too.

Vegan menu! - Edit
Great sports bar with a vegan / gluten free menu. Hard to decide what to get but I went with the bbq jackfruit poutine. Anna was our server and everyone we encountered was super friendly. I will be back for the fried tofu sandwich.

Dedicated vegan menu and knowledgeable staff - Edit
I was very impressed with this place. My husband and I (both vegan) come here for dinner with our two (non-vegan) friends and could not have been happier. It’s got a dive bar-ish atmosphere but there was someone playing live music and everything was clean and we had a great time.
Read moreI have to shout out our waitress Kaylynn who was very familiar with the vegan items on the menu and made great suggestions for drinks and food. She was so sweet and knowledgeable, she definitely made our experience.
We ordered some beers and some customized truly seltzer’s that’s they have on tap. We had the vegan poutine with beyond sausage added (Kaylynn’s suggestion) as an appetizer and it was delicious! For entrees we had the vegan chicken sandwich and the loaded vegan hot dog which - again - were surprisingly good. The non-vegans in our party really enjoyed their meals as well.
I can’t say enough good things about our experience so if you’re a vegan visiting Portland, I would definitely recommend a stop. And if she’s available, ask for Kaylynn because she’s great and will hook you up with the best vegan offerings.
Pros: Vegan menu, Vegan friendly staff, Live music
Cons: Not entirely vegan

Excellent options for vegan and gf - Edit
We came in after finding the restaurant on this app. Great options, that are clearly marked, for both vegan and GF. It's not always easy to find something that works for our whole family, but they were right on the mark. Will definitely return!!

Something for everyone! - Edit
I went to $3 Dewey’s with a large group of teenagers with a variety of allergies and dietary restrictions and everyone was happy. The back of the menu has an entire vegan and gluten free section. The vegetarians were very happy with the Mac and Cheese bowl and I got a pretty good quinoa based veggie burger (vegan). Portions were generous and the service was excellent. There was also live music!

Excellent pub grub with lots of vegan options. The beer list was very solid as well, though not as strong as some of the smaller brewpubs in the area.
