Don't want to miss!

Make your reservations early! Amazing dinner and still talking about it! We did the sampler with chef recommendations and vegan. It was non stop food and each dish was better than the last. We were so full we had to pass on dessert. Next time!

Pros: Amazing flavors with each dish, The sampler is more than you think, The apple harvest drink was amazing (seasonal)

Cons: Non, this place is awesome!

Great meal!

The dips were great, but our favorite was the mushroom shawarma. We thought the food was a good deal for the price. We walked away stuffed and happy with everything we sampled from the menu!

Decent food but not tasting menu quality

The food was just okay for the price point. It's the best falafel I've had in Maine and the asparagus dish was very good. The carrot dish and beet dish were average. The rhubarb cake was good. But none of the dishes felt like a high-end or mid-tier tasting menu

Some of the best food I have had

Everything was packed with flavors. The food was beautiful, fresh and incredible! We ordered one of everything on the menu that could be made vegan and shared it among the three of us. Everything was SO so good!!

Pros: Atmosphere, Flavors!, Great service

Cons: Expensive

Amazing !

They have an entire vegan chef special which includes several phenomenal dishes AND desert. I also have Celiac's and they made the entire chef special gluten free! (but still gave my bf some pita- which he appreciated). It's not cheap but it was a LOT of food - a lot more than my boyfriend and I were expecting - we ended up taking 3 boxes home. The servers were amazing as well!! Definitely make reservations ahead of time, it gets super busy.

Pros: Vegan Chef Special (good portions), Service , Very accommodating for Celiac's

Cons: Need a reservation (very busy)

Vegan Tasting Menu is Exceptional

The vegan tasting menu was as beautiful as it was delicious. Every course was perfect. My favorites were the beet salad, chickpea fries, roasted potatoes and dessert. It was all amazing though. I’ve since ordered chickpea fries elsewhere and they don’t compare. We sat at the chef’s counter and the service was outstanding. We live in a rural town where it’s hard to find any vegan food so this was a treat.

Pros: Food , Service , Atmosphere

Great Flavors

EVO is not quite tapas but it is small portions without side dishes. You should get 2 or 3 dishes per person and share. Food is incredible! Chickpea fries are like nothing I have ever eaten, crispy and light outside and creamy (almost mousse-like) inside. The Skordalia spread is like a lighter creamier hommus. The asparagus and carrots each had fantastic seasoning. They finish the carrots with a toasted wild rice that adds a depth of flavor and texture. Really amazing flavor profiles. This place is a must try.

Pros: Lots of veganized options, Unbelievable flavors, Staff very accommodating

Cons: Weird seating arrangement

DO NOT MISS - this is one of the best dining experiences I've ever had

I hate to say this about a non-vegan restaurant, but this is one of THE BEST dining experiences I've ever had. THE FOOD, the atmosphere, the service, even the music choices. It's a creative, gourmet, artful take on Mediterranean food. Don't think of this as a regular Mediterranean restaurant. Think of Mediterranean food as the blank canvas, and then this chef turns each item into a new and incredible masterpiece. All of their menu items are small plates - we ordered 4 plates for the two of us and it was perfect. Our (vegan) plates were: skordalia dip (UNREAL), falafel balls (ABSOLUTELY SUBERB), chickpea fries (DON'T EVEN TRY TO IMAGINE WHAT THESE WERE LIKE BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO IDEA UNTIL TRYING THEM) and a warm beet dish (NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE). For dessert, vegan chocolate mousse. For many of these items, we sat in silence while chewing or eating because we literally fell into a state of amazement. The wine list, the cocktails, everything beautiful and artful and playful and fun. Sensational all-around. Go to their website to get a sense of the specialness of this restaurant. NOTE: WE WENT BACK A SECOND TIME AND GOT THE 8-COURSE VEGAN TASTING MENU - THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE DO-NOT-MISS. PROBABLY THE BEST RESTAURANT IN PORTLAND... UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE.

Superbly Savory & Sweet

Although the chef-owned Evo Kitchen & Bar offered a vegan tasting platter on the dinner menu when my wife and I dined there, restaurant personnel were extremely accommodating regarding my rather strict Whole Food Plant Based No Oil eating habit. It’s the ‘No Oil’ condition that stymies most chefs, but Evo graciously met the challenge by creating some amazing dishes.
The first thing I noticed when they brought out my chickpea dish was the tantalizingly spicy aroma—aside from the ground pepper and a hint of ginger, I’m not sure of the other spices that contributed to this tasty melange, but I ended up using my spoon to slurp up the remaining broth after I’d consumed the solid matter. In addition to chickpeas, this dish featured small cubes of potato, cut up broccoli and cauliflower florets, and some kind of curious cabbage. It was original and delectable. My wife reported that her seared tuna was some of the best she’s ever had (she also gave high marks to the beet salad).
After we finished, my wife ordered a specialty coffee drink and I ordered a decaf (which came in a French press that I enjoyed plunging when ready). One of the best decafs I’ve had. When the waitperson asked if there was anything else she could bring us, I saw my opening and said, you bet, if the chef didn’t mind creating another new WFPB concoction! I was assured it was no problem, and was ultimately just as blown away by this second dish as I was by the first. Whereas the first was savory, the second was sweet with sour undertones—delicata squash topped with long slices of tart apple, thin slices of cranberry, a hint of honey drizzle, and some shredded red cabbage, whose peppery tang brought a unifying cohesion to the sweet/sour combination.
Thanks to the staff at Evo for their genial flexibility, attentive service, and superb dishes!

Pros: Service, Restaurant interior , Food!

Cons: San Pellegrino in plastics bottles vs glass

Deserves 5 stars due to amazing food and service

We had the vegan tasting menu and it was the best meal we ever had. Every single course was fantastic, not just the chickpea fries. The service was wonderful and extremely friendly. We will definitely be back.

Vegan Tasting Menu!

Need I say more? We had 9 courses of incredible vegan dishes, every single one was amazing. The only thing that sucks is that this is not a fully vegan restaurant. Also, baba ganoush is pretty much ruined for me because the one they served was literally out of this world.

Pros: Vegan tasting menu, Fun atmosphere , Good drinks

Cons: Not fully vegan, Busy location, A little pricey but worth it

Vegans need not bother

Read great things about this place, plus we were staying at the Hyatt, so why not. We got the eggplant, the chickpea fries, the squash and tomatoes to share, and my omnivorous partner ordered the tuna. The chickpea fries were definitely the standout, while the other two veggie dishes were unimpressive. My partner did say his tuna was tasty, so that's that. They do have a vegan tasting menu at $75/person, but the whole table has to have it. Our bill came out to $100 before tips sans drinks. It's pretty poor value all things considered.
The dining area is small. It was packed on a Saturday night and was very noisy.

Pros: chickpea fries

Cons: poor value, noisy

Five stars!

I wish I could give this place five stars. I’ve eaten here three times and the third, did the vegan tasting menu. Prior to that, I’ve always gotten the chickpea fries, and the spreads which are amazing. I was blown away by the tasting and my boyfriend who is Omni said it was the best meal he’s had- he graciously did the vegan tasting with me because he eats a lot of vegan food with me anyway and has eliminated a lot of meat out of his diet already. His favorite dish was the shishito peppers! Mine was the falafel, I would definitely order that next time. Only thing is the wine pairing I did probably wasn’t necessary. The wines were all good but they didn’t impact the dish the way I’ve had other wine pairings in the past (pre being vegan). I seriously cannot wait to go back though.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Small intimate space

Tasty but overpriced

Cozy spot for a nice dinner in downtown Portland. Their menu offers a variety of vegetable-based options that are vegan or can easily be made so, as well as a vegan tasting menu. We did not was to spend the $60 per person for the tasting menu, so we ordered babaganoush, skordalia, cooked eggplants, falafel, chickpea fries, and sticky rice balls.

Everything was tasty, but nothing was amazing. The chickpea fries and eggplant were our favorites. The babaganoush and falafel lacked flavor, and the rice balls were way too sweet. We also felt like the portions were too small for the price, especially for the veggie dishes like the eggplant. They say their dishes are meant for sharing, but it’s hard to share when there’s not much on the plate to begin with. However, the plating was beautiful and some of the dishes were incredibly flavorful and featured some wonderful texture combinations.

Overall, I would not return. I feel like I paid too much for what I got—even though it’s an upscale restaurant—and nothing was particularly surprising or unique. Still, it’s a nice spot. Probably the best fancy vegan food in the area.

Pros: Vegan friendly , Upscale , Plating

Cons: Overpriced , Small portions , Unexceptional

This is a super high quality restaurant. It’s hard to find places like this. This is where you want to go when you’re eating with people that have different varieties in their dietary needs but are looking for high-quality eats regardless. Evo is very willing to cater to dietary needs and always has one veg option on the menu.

If you want thoughtful dishes and options for everyone, this is the place. Every dish was meticulously designed and completely unique. There was something for all of us, even with GF and vegan dietary preferences.

They've got an open cooking space behind the bar (at their current location, which will change soon, so this may not be applicable in the next year) - we walked in to see an entire fresh fish out for preparation and we were able to see the homemade pasta being prepped.

We were in Portland for 3 days and luckily found Evo on the 1st day and were able to enjoy eating there on the 3rd day as well. The staff was incredibly friendly and remembered us on our second visit. We were able to have a lovely conversation with one of the chefs and we had the BEST time here. It's hard to find restaurants like this. We can't wait to go back!

Oh - and the mocktails were AWESOME!

Pros: Unique food, Something for everyone, Amazing staff

Cons: None

Worth the money for the tasting menu!

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here and each had a lovely glass of wine and the vegan tasting menu. Every single course was flawless and flavorful and unique. Each course surprised us with how creatively it was presented and how it tasted. We were so full at the end but we kept eating until dessert because it was all so good. It was an overall wonderful experience.

Pros: Vegan tasting menu, Wonderful service, Delicious drinks

Cons: Not entirely vegan

Amazing fancy & unique Mediterranean food

I got the vegan tasting menu and it was incredible. The menu changes on a daily basis depending on what produce the restaurant picked that day. All of the food was incredible, fresh, and uniquely prepared. It’s a sharing plate type of place, highly recommend the tasting menu to get the full experience.

Pros: Fully vegan tasting menu, Extremely tasty and unique , Dessert course included

Cons: Very pricey, Not very many tables

Pricey but unique and delicious

We had the vegan tasting, pretty pricey but the taste and presentation of everything makes it fairly reasonable. It’s all in season things and there were about 8 courses?
You absolutely get stuffed by the end but it’s all so good you cram it all in. Boyfriend had the wine pairing, he thought it definitely matched well with the food. All in all, worth a try if you can shell out the money.

Pros: Delicious, Lots of food, all seasonal and unique

Cons: Pricey

Excellent!!

We had the vegan tasting menu. The price was $55, not inexpensive but quite worth it. I’m not even certain of the number of courses but there was plenty to eat and they were even two desert courses. The quality was excellent, the food unusual and good I am very picky and I would definitely go back

Pros: A vegan tasting menu! , Not your every day items. Unique, Quality, fresh and local

Cons: Noisy. Not so nice for us older folks, Fairly priced I think but too $ to go regularly
