Organization perpetuates child abuse (actually real) despite good food… - Edit
This restaurant chain is owned and operated by the Twelve Tribes, a textbook religious cult with confirmed ties to child abuse and racism. Some of the allegations you can find online read like conspiracy theories where as other ones are just completely true anecdotes from former members of the cult.
Read moreAlthough the food is good, I cannot in good faith support this business with a good review, nor should any other vegan. It’s difficult because this is one of the few restaurants in the Rutland area with a vegan option, but I don’t even know if this place should be on Happy Cow from an ethical standpoint?
There is an excellent article written by a former Twelve Tribes member from August 2020 titled “If There’s a Yellow Deli in your Town, You May Want to Read This” easily found via Google search. They conclude the article with: “So the next time you’re enjoying a delicious sandwich from the Yellow Deli, but you notice the service is a little “off,” just remember: Your server is not getting paid. Nobody there is getting paid. And half of the people there might not even want to be there. They just can’t think of any way out.”

Old review from 2020: Best veggie burger I’ve ever had in my life, honestly. Was not expecting this in the middle of Rutland VT but I was really blown away. Really solid pickle spears too. I also got an iced chai with almond milk which was 10/10. Very strange vibes for obvious reasons but really friendly service. Not sure about other vegan options but seemed like they could be accommodating

Pros: Affordable/cheaper side, Huge portion
Cons: Not a lot of other vegan options, Operated by child abusing religious cult , Employees work for free and don’t receive tips

Not vegan, but will modify - Edit
Happy Cow pointed me here when I had an hour to kill in Rutland. I ordered vegetable soup that came with a side of bread, after confirming that it was vegan. The soup came out with grated cheese on top and the bread was slathered with butter. The staff were nice and corrected. Be sure to specify to avoid non-vegan additions. The soup was fine, nothing particularly special. What IS special is the funky interior of this place.

Cons: They add dairy to vegan dishes , Few items marked as vegan

Truly a unique and excellent find - Edit
The veggie burger, bun and vegan spread are house made and one of the best veggie burgers I’ve had. Unlike Beyond and Incredible, it is NOT trying to taste like beef. Rather, it is a delicious blend that, along with all the toppings, creates a wonderful, tasty and very filling meal. Our teenage sons both liked the veggie burgers as well as the cool vibe of the restaurant. Hot apple cider…so good. Pina colada smoothie…yum! Service was great, high quality food and incredible staff. Limited vegan options but definitely a fully positive experience. Open 24 hours/day from Mon-Thur, closed from Friday afternoon thru Sunday afternoon. Outdoor seating also available but you must check out the inside too.

Unique and Chill Place - Edit
Solid house made veggie burger, vegan with no substitutions. Limited vegan options. The yellow submarine can be made vegan by swamping out the pesto for hummus.

Super friendly and great food! - Edit
All homemade food. Except the chips that come with the sandwich. (Cape Cod brand I think)
Read moreThis is a legit cult so they love telling you about their community. A few different locations.
Hand crafted woodwork throughout makes it super cozy. And they make their own soap you can purchase.
Pros: Super friendly , Vegan options

Cool, unique spot! - Edit
Delicious veggie burger with yummy vegan spread and a killer bun! Would definitely recommend this *interesting* and unique rutland spot. Also, most days the soup special is vegan. Bread is homemade and oh so good! The religious cult that runs the deli and hostel for hikers above keep the place spotless and give great service! Be sure to sit in front of the fireplace on a chilly day!

Green Drink!!! - Edit
The green drink was awesome, a blend of kale, collards and spinach with fruit. After traveling for a few day my body was craving greens and nutrition and this drink hit the spot. Ordered some lentil soup which was very flavorful and filling. Great lunch in a town with few vegan options.
