Best vegan spot in Austin

Maybe the best food I had in Austin. I had a big burrito with buffalo chikn, rice, beans, and mac n cheese on the recommendation of the worker and it was fantastic. Take away or eat at the tables there. Nice artwork there and cool neighborhood with other vegan spots nearby.

Pros: Excellent food, good options, nice atmosphere

Simply the Best

Love this place. Get the Gracias Madre. And don’t skimp on the orangey salsa! It’s phenomenal. It’s a roasted tomato salsa. Or check their Facebook for when they’re serving BBQ jackfruit. So good. I could eat here every day. Luckily I live just far enough to make a weekly trip here instead.😉

Pros: All vegan, Extensive menu, Fun specials

Perfect food

This food is perfect! We’ve been in austin for 5 days and came here 3 times. My non-vegan hisband said they were the best tacos he’s ever had. If you don’t like spicy, ask about the heat level of whatever you chose.

Pros: So so so good, Many options, Nice ambiance

Cons: The beverages (beer, coke) were not very cold

Get the bean diablo

My whole family vegan and non really enjoyed this taco truck. The bean diablo was the bomb dot com. We also really enjoyed the queso.

Great Tacos

This small food truck features a excellent seating area. It is nicely located in a area with a number of other vegan spots. The food is totally on point. While I was not a fan of the tempeh bacon, everything else was amazing. Especially the beans and tofu scramble.

Pros: Covered seating, Great tacos

Cons: Outdoor only

Austin Tacos

Been enjoying these must have Austin tacos for several years. I’ve been a loyal customer in all locations this trailer has been at. If you live in Austin or just visiting don’t think twice to grub on these tacos whether it’s for breakfast lunch or dinner (check hours of operations). The chips and queso are a perfect appetizer while you wait in the covered patio area. My three kids ages 5 and under enjoy the food and the play area while taking in that Austin vitamin D. Make sure you specify your heat tolerance as some tacos are spicy.

Pros: Flour or Corn tortillas , Gluten free options , Their salsa compliment their tacos very well

Cons: Few drink options , Menu should state spicy items

amazing tacos!

I tried three different tacos on corn tortillas. All were AMAZING! I originally went to Counter Culture for brunch but these tacos were way better. I highly recommend this food truck.

Highly disappointing

The Vegan Nom seems like a cool food truck at first glance. Creative menu items, nice location, free drinks sometimes. As a gluten free vegan I was happy to see several options for myself. I have now been here several times, and each time was a bad experience. I usually give places 2-3 visits with grace before landing on an opinion that's worth sharing.

First off, there is a parking lot which is nice, but it's confusing to get to if you're coming off of Cesar Chavez, and if the lot is full you better be prepared to walk a long way as there is nothing close but off streets.

Second, if the parking situation wasn't annoying, some of the workers are very unprofessional and unfriendly. Not all of them, as sometimes we get nice cashiers taking our order, but even then I am usually annoyed by the attitude of another. They could really use some training in customer service as it will take their business to new heights. But, for now, if you are in a bad mood you should definitely stay away as to not make it worse.

Third, which goes well with my second, is that you better be prepared to wait an incredibly long time for your food no matter what day and time you go. Sure, they have board games to play while you wait, but it is still not fun waiting for a long time when you're starving. The first two times I went there were 3-4 people max, and I waited over 30 minutes for my food to come out (3 tacos every time). But the most recent time was my worst experience. I ordered 3 tacos and chips and queso. Now this was a Sunday afternoon and there was about 10-15 people there. I ordered chips and queso knowing I would have to wait a little long. After 30 minutes I went and asked what the wait time would be and the worker rudely told me it'd be awhile and I should have called in if I didn't want to wait. After 45 minutes I went back asking if I could have my chips and queso, and it turned out they had been sitting there and they never called them out. I annoyingly ate my chips, got another refill (that's a pro, free refills on chips), and after 1 hour I asked about my tacos again, and they said they'd be out soon. It took a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes to get my 3 tacos, only to bite into flavorless fake meat on tortillas.

So my conclusion is that the employees have probably had little to no training, and definitely 0 training on customer service. I regularly support vegan businesses in Austin, but this one just isn't worth the pain and suffering.

Pros: Cool location, Variety, Free drinks sometimes

Cons: Rude workers, VERY long wait, Parking isn't always easy

Torchy’s who?!

I came here on a cold rainy day looking for a quick bite but boy was I in for a treat! I ordered the migas taco and it tasted better than any breakfast taco I’ve had in Austin! Definitely recommend this place to everyone, not just vegans.

Best Vegan Nachos Ever!!

I was completely blown away by their vegan nachos, I don’t know that I ever had better nachos than these when I wasn’t vegan. I haven’t tried anything else from this truck but I’ll be going back soon!

Pros: scarily exceptional vegan meat, amazing vegan nacho cheese, great customer service

Memories

I told the girl at the counter, "Please give me something that will make us miss this place." She enthusiastically grabbed the order pad and started designing our lunch. I don't even know what we walked away with, but it was amazing. I miss that place.

I also got a selfie with a few other customers who were happy to pretend we were old friends.

Pros: staff, yum, clientele

Good tacos, pass on the mac n' cheese

I LOVE my breakfast tacos, so I was excited to try this place out. My boyfriend ordered Los Nopalitos (with tofu) and I ordered the Three Amigos (with all the add-ons). My taco was delicious and flavorful. It had the right amount of spiciness. My boyfriend liked his taco and also liked the flavor combination, but his got a little messy to eat because the sauce or nopales (?) were very juicy. Both tacos were good portion size. We also ordered the mac n' cheese, but didn't finish it because it was bland and the texture was pasty. I think they use some sort of starch ingredient, so it's not that creamy. The service was quick, but not friendly. We would go back to try their other items.

Great tacos

We came here for a quick dinner/snack. The tacos are awesome. They have a really nice variety of flavors to choose from, including breakfast tacos. We got chicharon, the fish tacos, avocado, and migas, and all of them were fantastic. The sauces are also stellar—make sure you grab some chipotle sauce to spice up your meal.
We’ll definitely be back to try more.

Pros: Variety, Tasty

Cons: A little pricey

A must stop while in Austin

Any time we come to Austin Vegan Nom is a must stop. The Birdie Sanders is probably my favorite, but honestly I’ve never had a taco that isn’t delicious here!

Pros: food, ambiance

Cons: no bathroom

Wow

They have a great menu of their own concoctions, plus two-item tacos you can add on. Two large tacos for about $9 and I was stuffed to the gills. I am usually not a fan of spicy/hot but, wow, so good. The girl next to me ordered the weekend special taco made with a pancake "shell." Next time!

Cons: Hours. They close early.

Rockin Vegan Tacos

They're killer tacos. Cooked to perfection with awesome sauces. They're about 2x the size of typical tacos so they're a good deal. The seasoned tofu is particularly tasty.

Pros: They make tacos!

Cons: they close at 4pm
