Amazing upscale vegan food - Edit
The Steer has impressive and intentional vegan options, not just "you can remove the cheese from the veggie burger" option at a lot of places. Everything was amazing and we can't wait to go back. We devoured:
Read more🍝Carbonara with cashew cauliflower cream sauce, mushrooms, and peas over linguini
🍛Lentil loaf with tangy tomato brown sugar glaze with side of fresh cut fries and mashed potatoes (we got to choose the sides, don't @ me for getting potatoes upon potatoes lmao) .
🍰 Vegan blueberry cheesecake
We ate out on their massive terrace. Our server was awesome, super helpful and friendly. We'll definitely be back to try more of their incredible food!
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Amazing food, Large terrace and friendly server

Beware - Edit
Beware eating the vegan options here! Me and my Bf ate here this week and ordered the vegan meatball pizza. When it arrived the quinoa meatballs were covered in mold!🤮

Always has a few options for vegans - Edit
I appreciate this place always having a few vegan entrees to choose from. My family and I got the the chips and guacamole for an appetizer and I thought they were quite good. I could tell they fried them to order.
Read moreFor my entree, I got the vegan carbonara. I really enjoyed it. My mom got the vegan meatloaf with mashed potatoes and broccoli as her sides. I really liked the meatloaf when I tried it. I’d probably get that again if I’m in town. My boyfriend got the meatball pizza and I think we all agreed it was the weakest dish of the three. The meatballs just seemed like little piles of quinoa and not very meaty. The cheese was daiya I’m pretty sure which isn’t the greatest texture.
Pros: Multiple vegan items
Cons: Many meat dishes

Interesting - Edit
Went with my two non vegan friends, plenty of vegan options. Got the chickpea egg salad sandwich with fries (chickpea egg salad was dry and had a strong mustard flavor) fries were okay. Seasonal veggies very tasty, vegan cheesecake was not good it was not creamy like you'd expect cheesecake to be kind of crunchy. The only saving grace were the vegan mashed potatoes.

A pleasant surprise - Edit
Traveling on business with 2 carnivores, and I found this place on Happy Cow. With a name like Steer, and the promise of beefy options, they agreed to go here for dinner. We all loved it so much that we planned to come back again the next night. The vegan options were clearly marked, and there were many to choose from. Delicious. Great flavors.

The Steer - Edit
We like to go to The Steer as it is close to UB and there is usually new vegan options on their specials. I have had several dishes from here and almost always they are really good. The food here feels like a home cooked meal. They also just updated their dinning room and it is pretty nice now.

Lots of vegan options at this longtime bar & carnivore hangout - Edit
Been here for drinks for years, never to eat. Didn’t know until recently about the numerous vegan selections as I would have just assumed they were as extensive as fries and a salad.
Read moreI opted for the vegan potato skins ($10) for an app, and the Chickpea Eggless Salad sandwich with fries ($9). Too much food to eat in one sitting. Skins were good...melty & creamy Daiya products with the usual fixins. The sandwich was toasted, the chickpea salad was flavorful and tangy and not as runny as other versions around town. Fresh cut fries were crispy and on point.
The couple next to me watching the NFL Draft happened to be eating and really liking the other menu items I was interested in ordering (but only seemed to come in Entree size/price). They looked and smelled amazing...and were extremely large portions. The gentleman had the lentil meatloaf, which looked like 3 pounds of food at least, and happily housed the entire thing. The lady put a good dent in the kale salad w/ grilled tofu and took the rest home. They left most of the side of garbanzo tots, for whatever that’s worth.
Love to see a steakhouse offering more that just a token salad and single vegan side...and making an effort to do so.
Only negative for me: the draft beer tasted awful, either from taps never being cleaned or the beer sitting on tap too long. Either way, I would stick with bottles if you fancy a beer.
If the sight of bones and smell of grilled meats in the air offends you, you might want to go elsewhere. Otherwise, you won’t regret checking this place out!
Update: Had the Mushroom Carbonara with Cauliflower Cream. Carbonara is of my favorite non-vegan pasta dishes (one which I usually doused with a pile of Parmesan). Compared to the bacon-filled heavy cream & cheese classic this one was definitely far less salty and not as stick-to-your-ribs heavy...but that’s kinda the point. Still made for a satisfying meal, but could have packed a bit more salty flavor to compensate for the sweetness of the cauliflower cream.
My glass of wine was listed as $8 on menu...$11 on the bill. Hoping this is just a case of new menus needing to be printed...and not a typical shady business practice. Minus a star either way.
Pros: Variety of clearly labeled vegan choices, Good portions, Kitchen open a bit later than others
Cons: Draft beer tasted foul., One of the drink prices listed $3 less on menu

Unexpected, but vegan - Edit
I wouldn’t have thought that a restaurant named The Steer would have so many vegan options, but they do and the food is very good! The menu changes, but the lentil meatloaf and vegan mac n cheese are great options if they are available.

Delicious. - Edit
I was very pleasantly surprised by the Steer. The warm dark atmosphere was very romantic. Our waitress was very sweet, and doubled the size of our appetizers for free since we were sharing them! Our meals were delicious too. My husband had the quinoa meatball pizza and I had the Mushroom Carbonara. Everything was awesome! Really enjoyed this restaurant a lot. Would rate 5 out of 5 if I could.

Amazing Surprise!!! - Edit
With a name like Steer we would’ve driven right on by, If we hadn’t seen it on Happy Cow! There are so many vegan options! We had a tofu sandwich from the brunch menu and a beyond burger. Atmosphere is fun with beers on tap and fireplaces going. There is a fully vegan pizza done in the wood fired oven!

Unexpected - Edit
We stopped into the steer after hearing about the vegan options on the menu. Buffalo is severely lacking in the vegan and vegetarian department so this came as a welcome surprise. I ordered the marathon bowl which consisted of kale, quinoa, tofu, and seeds. It was very light, and the portion was so big i took half home. We also ordered the chickpea tots which had a curry or Moroccan spice and were to die for. My boyfriend had the Beyond Meat burger that he said was great. We will defiantly be back.

Although the Steer has vegan options on the menu, the dishes aren't very tasty or thoughtful. Lentil meatloaf was good but other dishes were not.

Good food and beer! - Edit
One of the better places to eat vegan in Buffalo if you're also looking to have a beer. Their regular menu always has vegan options in each category (salads, sides, pizzas, sandwiches, burgers, and larger dinners), and their specials menu generally has at least one vegan choice.
Read moreIf you go when they're offering the "vegan crab cakes" on special, make sure to get some, they're excellent! Very rich and flavorful. My girlfriend swears by their vegan meatball bomber, which is also a special they offer sometimes.
When I went this afternoon, it seemed that their main menu had changed quite a bit. I had the "Beyond Burger," which they did a really nice job with. The fries were great, and the staff friendly.
The chickpea "egg-salad" was tempting too, so I'll be back again soon.
-Withholding the 5th star because you do get an average meal here on occasion. Skip the vegan mac unless you're a big fan of gluten free pasta.
Pros: Patio, Lots of vegan options, Beer
Cons: The occasional average meal.

The garbanzo tots are amazing and their Mac and cheese is pretty good. I had a really good Thai inspired special once but I haven't seen it since.

Expensive but okay - Edit
I only found this place alright. I may go again and try a different entree. That might have been the problem. I had zucchini noodles and quinoa meatballs. It was pretty bland. I did enjoy the vegan cheesecake. The worse thing about this place is the noise level was way over the top. I had a pounding headache when we left because of how loud it was in the dining area.

Vegan Buffalo - Edit
For the longest time in Buffalo there was only one nice place to go on vegan date. Now there is Steer! They have a full a large rang of vegan entrees, one appetizer, raw options and dessert! The food is very good and labeled!! A great place for a gathering larger or small.

GREAT vegan menu! - Edit
We were two tourists for PA not expecting a whole lot from Buffalo, NY on our way back from Niagara. However, we saw this place and their labeled veg menu and decided to give it a try! We had the burger, crab cakes, macaroni and cheese, and the polenta fries. All good sized portions and fairly priced as well. I'm very glad that we made the stop here and would definitely come again if in the area! Staff was knowledgable and very helpful. I would honestly give five stars if HappyCow allowed that!! My boyfriend is a meat eater but only ate off the veg menu and loved it - definitely recommend for all.
Read morePros: Separate vegetarian menu, No faux meat - very fresh!, Good portion sizes
Cons: Serves meat, Strange atmosphere - only two people there for lun
