5 star comfort food

This app only allows 5 star ratings on fully vegan restaurants which I think is unfair because this place serves half their menu 100% vegan and all of it is worth 5 stars. So just know I'm actually rating 5 stars ☆☆☆☆☆, not 4. I LOVE this place. One of the best vegan servings in Indy. Its a great go-to and has affordable vegan food, super delicious, comforting, a nice variety of things most people love to eat, and filling.
A lot of places close early in Indy and some times you get out late from work and too tired to make anything. This place is open till late late (devil's hour haha). So it's awesome having a place to go to with great options.
For those with families: I dont have kids but if you do and youre just traveling by, it's not a family restaurant by any means lol. It's a bar, so only people 21 and over are allowed inside. If you have kids you can just get a take out. They have vegan mac n "teeze", vegan wings, burgers, you name it.

Pros: Great vegan menu, Very tasty food open till late night, Affordable

Cons: Must be 21+, Cant pre order through a phone call

BEST VEGAN JUNK FOOD OPTIONS!

When i wanna eat junk food i go here. Everything is delicious and I love the service, they have a very chill friendly environment as in everyone is in there own world. They even have vegan dessert (donuts) and i feel like its usually hard to find vegan desserts in non-vegan restaurants.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Open late, Friendly staff

Cons: 21 and older

Great food

This place is a crap shoot. Food is always amazing. Service can be good or worst you've ever had randomly for no good reason. They will randomly refuse to serve food too. I used to love this place.

Pros: Food is amazing

Cons: Service can be horrible

Fulfill all your vegan bar food dreams!

This place does more than just throw a few vegan items on the menu. The menu that has meat is exactly mirrored into a vegan menu, literally every item. You can find so many bar and comfort food favorites. Will be going back frequently. Decorated with awesome art, has pinball machines and a full bar. Love it, will be back often.

Pros: Tons of options., Good prices., Shareable apps.

VEGAN Bar Food!

No “I’ll just order a salad” here! Hemp yourself to REAL vegan bar food: Seitan “wings”, PICKLE FRIES (the only vegan fried pickles I’ve found in Indianapolis), Gyros, Meatball subs...
tons of bar food favorites, all cruelty-free. Menu is very clearly marked (except beer - turn to Barnivore for that), and Servers are very knowledgeable!

Pros: Bar food, Late night, Beer

Cons: Loud, Over 21 only, Beer price

Great vegan options

I had the vegan burger and pickle fries- both were excellent. My kids had the mac and teese, meatball sandwich, and curly fries. They loved it all. The only downside is it's 21 and over so I had to order it for carryout.

Vegan “Pig Out” Bar

I recently went to the Sinking Ship with my fiancée who is vegetarian and my friend who is neither vegan nor vegetarian. I got the seitan wings with the vegan Mac. The wings were hot and delicious with the ship bbq. The mac could have used more salt but the breadcrumbs were nice and it was very creamy. Fiancée got seitan meatball sub. The vegan ricotta was convincing and smooth. Friend got vegan gyro. Hummus was refreshing and vegan tzatziki sauce was indiscernible from a normal one. Very friendly staff and fun place to get some good vegan bar food.

Pros: Kind staff, Great vegan bar food

Cons: Definitely not super healthy, Not family friendly because it’s a bar

More fun than food.

A unique place... eclectic, with standard bar fare and good beer and drink selections. If the priority is diversity in vegan choices that offer somewhat healthy alternatives, find another venue. Remember, it is a pub first... unique, but a bar nonetheless. I did enjoy the fried pickles.

Pros: diverse menu for a bar

My favorite vegan place in Indy

I've never had a bad time here. The food is insanely good, and vegan items are clearly marked. The vibe is very laid back with good beer on tap too. Keep in mind this is a bar though, so 21 and up only!

Delicious vegan bar food

This place saved us after arriving in Indianapolis late at night after a long day of driving. Their kitchen is open until 2:30 am. There are a lot of vegan options clearly marked on the menu and we had a hard time deciding what to try. We had the taquitos, brats, pickle chips, and seitan wings. Everything was really delicious! We were there on a Wednesday night so it was pretty quiet, but it is definitely a bar so I imagine it could get noisier on weekend nights.

Pros: yummy vegan food, lots of vegan options clearly marked, late hours

Luuurrrrve

I effing love this place. First, do not expect to eat healthy here: Go to SoBro Cafe or Ezra's for that. If you want to stuff some greasy vegan bar food down your gullet, The Ship is your place. Things I have eaten and wanted to put more of in my mouth: vegan chili dogs, sack of balls (VEGAN DONUT BALLS!!!), seitan gyro, thai seitan salad (I know, I said nothing healthy here, but I wouldn't call this salad healthy), and seitan wings. They also have brunch from 11-3 or something on Sundays. They have vegan biscuits and gravy (amazing), vegan french toast (have not yet tried), and this thing called vegan loggers hash which combines star tots, vegan sausage (maybe tofurkey), with onions, peppers, tomatoes, and garlic, and bbq sauce... so freaking good! Other things on the menu I've had but don't typically choose them over the other things I could put in my mouth: meatball sammy, BLT (tempeh bacon), black bean burger, corn fritters. I have not yet tried a newer menu addition, vegan mac n cheese because something must be wrong with my head.

Oh yeah, they are also a bar, so 21 and up only. They have a rotating tap last and lots of bottles of beer. And if you want to watch hockey, this is a good place for that.

Pros: all the vegan foodstuffs, sack of balls, beer

The Catnip Diaries - The Sinking Ship

Cat Hair Day loves to go out on dates. Nat is vegan, so we are limited to where we can go out to, but that’s part of the fun – finding vegan-friendly places to eat in Indy. And trust us, we don’t starve! We seem to find ourselves at the Sinking Ship on a weekly basis for a couple of reasons, it is right down the street and we love their wings!

The Sinking Ship is located in SoBro at 49th and College. While it is known for being the only hockey bar in Indy, they also serve lunch and dinner, and even have a Sunday brunch. We were excited to find out on our most recent visit to the Sinking Ship, that they had just unveiled a new menu with even more vegan options! One of the greatest perks of The Sinking Ship, is that it is one of the more vegan-friendly restaurants we have found in Indy, with nearly half of the menu options being vegan. Unlike many restaurants, where you have to “special order” non-vegan options to make them vegan, The Sinking Ship has many options that are already vegan. Vegan options at The Sinking Ship include appetizers, sides, entrees, and burgers.

Our favorite appetizers are the Sack of Balls (cinnamon sugar donut balls with a fruity sauce) and Vegan Chili Dogs. Our favorite go-to entree is their Seitan Wings with Korean BBQ; try them – we promise you won’t regret it! The Thai Seitan Salad is another delicious lunch or dinner option, and one of the healthier menu items. Their vegan sides include Mac N’ Teese and Vegan Chili. Another option worth mentioning is their variety of vegan sauces, including vegan ranch and vegan mayo. But the best day of all to visit the Sinking Ship is on Sundays when they have Vegan Biscuits and Gravy. We could eat their biscuits and gravy every week and never get tired of them. Seriously, they are so delicious!

What I Wanted

So a lot of the time I hear people tell me, "Oh, well, that's unhealthy vegan food." Hey, when a restaurant has anything vegan on their menu that is more tasty than a bland salad or just fries, I jump for joy.
This place was perfect! I wanted a burger and fries. They did one better. A vegan meatball sub! And a jackfruit "pulled pork" sandwich. And star-shaped tater tots. Delicious! Friendly staff and good prices.

Nice to have vegan bar food

I agree with the previous reviewer. This place serves greasy bar food, so if that's your thing, then you'll be pleased as punch to eat at Sinking Ship. Their tots are everything you want in a tot and I enjoyed their seitan wings.

That said, I wasn't blown away by the food. However, in a city with limited vegan options, it's nice to be able to eat bar food with the masses :)

Pros: Vegan options, Greasy bar food

Cons: A bit unexciting

Yummy greasy bar food

If you're in the mood for a bar, bar food, and some vegan dining options, look no further.

The Sinking Ship serves the standard veggie burger, veggie nachos, vegan chili. They also have Seitan Hot Wings made by Chef Ian of Indianapolis. They post their full menu on their website. Lots of veggie choices and quite a few vegan choices for a bar.

Pros: Bar food, Dive Bar Vibe (if that's your thing)

Cons: Dive Bar Vibe (if it isn't your thing)
