So many vegan options! - Edit
Would give them a 5* if I could - Happy Cow only allows 5* for fully vegan restaurants.
Read moreThey have a huge amount of Vegan options. We had the Shhhh! Kebab (Seitan) which was delicious and perfectly marinated, and the vegan Crostini, also excellent and very garlicky - the presentation was perfect.
The cafe is very close to the center of Derry. We visited on a Saturday and if it wasn't because they close on Sundays, we'd have visited again within the same weekend 😂 will definitely be back.

The Hidden City Cafe was one of our culinary highlights at our Ireland trip, so were here twice for dinner. The staff was really friendly and the cafe is such a beautiful place. The vegan dishes on the menu are clearly labeled with a huge selection. We can really recommend this restaurant!

Stunning tasty food & lovely warm service in a cute environment - Edit
With insanely tasty food, some of the best service in NI, and a stylish, relaxing atmosphere, there is no way this restaurant should be hidden in any way.
Read moreI had the Ploughman's Sandwich, and it was huge, packed with flavour, and didn't skimp on ingredients as a vegan option, with a generous serve of vegan cheese. There were also so many vegan options that it was hard to choose, and I wished I were in Derry for more than a day trip so I could come back to eat here! They have a huge drinks menu with some yummy options that I wish I could've tried.
The side salad had what was probably the tastiest salad dressing I've ever eaten: a dill pickle mayo, which sounds strange for a salad but was so moreish that I ended up ordering a salad to take home for dinner just so I could eat some more of it.
The service was a wonderful cherry on top: my waitress was warm and friendly, and went above and beyond with my to-go order, packaging everything separately to keep it fresh until consumption, carefully sticky taping the dressings so they didn't spill, and even handwriting me a note about the best way to reheat and flavour the seitan. It was so sweet. I don't come from a tipping culture and tipping isn't the norm in NI, but I certainly tipped here as it was well deserved.
The location is central to the town, just above the main statue and about a 5-min walk from the town hall and square. They have well set-apart tables so you can have privacy and stay a bit Covid-safe. They have a big, wheelchair-accessible toilet.
All around fantastic, and I can't recommend it highly enough.
Pros: Incredibly tasty vegan food, lots of vegan and veganisable options , super lovely staff, nice atmosphere

Great vegan food - so much to choose from ! - Edit
I was so excited to try this place, a small cafe / restaurant in town, the menu is great with so many different vegan options to choose from, I got the Shhh kebab and a chatterbox to share with humous, satay dip and tapenade that comes with a selection of breads. The food was great, the kebab was really nice with a nice spicy sauce and the chatterbox was such a great sharing dish. I can’t wait to go back and try something different !

Very tasty - Edit
About 5-7 different vegan options. Decently priced. Good sized portions, very tasty and not loaded in oil/salt. Well presented. Handy location. Probably one of the better places to eat in Derry as there doesn't seem to be any 100% vegan outlets

Hidden Gem for Vegan sandwiches - Edit
Woohhooo.. the restrictions related to COVID had eased down and restaurants were welcoming us back.. checked for Vegan cafes and found this place..
Read moreThe place seemed to be busy and we were lucky to find one vacant table
They have good range of VEGAN options to choose from and we opted for below two sandwiches,
1. VLT
2. Ploughmans Doorstep
VLT was good but Ploughmans Doorstep was a STAR. We will surely visit again to have Ploughmans Doorstep sandwich and this time I won't be sharing it with my wife :-)
We did order Ice coffee and chocolate VEGAN pastry but that was not something which I would die to order for again.
Service and ambience was good and it did setup the friendly atmosphere. They provide free Wi-Fi as well.
Overall, a must visit place for VEGAN sandwiches.
Pros: Sandwiches

Hidden gem - Edit
Stayed in Derry for a couple of nights and ate here both days...salads are lovely (especially the teriyaki seitan) and the vegan ploughman’s sandwich is filling and delicious! Nice modern cafe with friendly staff. Shame it isn’t open in the evening.
Read moreI can’t give it 5 stars apparently because it’s not fully veggie/vegan but I would if I could. I understand that they would probably lose some business if they went the whole hog (as it were) as we’ve found NI to be a bit behind the times with its attitude to diet on our road trip (we’ve been offered fish at least twice). This place is like an oasis in a sea of penne pasta.
Pros: Lots of vegan/veggie options , Cool decor
Cons: Closes at 5.30pm

Nice find in Derry - Edit
Not many places in Derry but this was great. Nice and comfortable with great service. Food was excellent I opted for the recommended malted wheat bread but will probably aim for a softer white bread next time but still ate it all and it was still delicious. They do vegan cupcakes too and will definitely be back for one... or two!

Vegan food in Derry! - Edit
The Hidden City Cafe is a great addition to Derry's food scene. Although they serve some meat (I think) and some cheese/dairy, there is a real focus on vegan food. It is great. I had a vegan ploughman's sandwich, and my husband had a teriyaki seitan sandwich. Both were really good.

Please Eat Here! - Edit
This place was fantastic! From the moment we walked in the door, the staff were so friendly and helpful. They allowed me to try a taste of something to see if I liked it (and I definitely did) and they talked me through what my young son might like to eat. The food was amazing. I had the seitan and onion dish and my husband had spiced chickpeas, seitan and onions, a cauliflower side and a salad. For my son, they made something like a tortilla vegan pizza. We all loved everything. The owner/chef gave us a taste of his homemade bacon which was stellar too. I highly recommend this place and, if I was in town long enough, I would definitely go back!
