Hidden gem

Had breakfast here this morning. Was delighted to see a few vegan options on the menu!
I had tofu scramble with vegan sausages, was lovely.

Good find

Purposefully giving 4 stars. Great find, been to Derry a few times and was surprised I hadn't found it before. Good atmosphere, busy, staff were friendly and accommodating. Only gripe was the portion sizes, I was quite hungry and was disappointed with the price to portion ratio, although I think it is all fairtrade which is presumably why things are at a higher price point. All in all, I would go back, but it's more an option for light meals

A Gem in the city

So nice to find this little restaurant in Derry. It had a tofu burrito and a wrap and yummy warm soup. You can’t miss there.

Pros: Great food.

Cons: None.

Nice breakfast

Pleasant staff and cute interior. We had the avocado toast and a vegan sausage roll for breakfast, it did the job. Coffee was good and hot.

Lovely staff

Despite its name it was easy to find in this very cool, very walkable city. We didn’t realise it had vegan options; we just passed it and went in for a coffee. When they gave us a menu we realised they had half a dozen or so vegan options. I had the seitan sandwich and my wife the chickpea wrap. Both lovely and the staff were all charming. A big hit with us.

Pros: Good choices, Friendly smiling staff, Very tasty

Cons: None

A great place for vegans!

Hidden City Cafe really look after vegans! They have a great selection of baked goods, lunch options, and even ice cream for their delicious shakes! The prices are fair and the service is really friendly and lovely. The homemade seitan with teriyaki sauce is amazing and highly recommended!

Yum food & oreo shake

Clearly labelled vegan options - I had the teriyaki seitan flatbread and an oreo oatmilk shake. Both were delicious. Seitan was firm and not 'chewy' like it can sometimes be. Only negative was it seemed kinda expensive (£10 for the flatbread) but the milkshake was £3.50.

Pros: Good vegan options , Clear labelled , Quality food

Cons: Seitan seemed kinda pricey (£10+)

Thank you for your fair and balanced review. If I may however highlight that the flat bread is home made and spread with home made whole grain hummus, the seitan itself is my own home made original recipe as is the organic miso teriyaki sauce that it is sautéd in and finished with a home made gomasio seasoning, the small deli cous cous salad to the side on the plate is homemade as well, although to be fair we didn’t grow the salad leaves or tomatoes. If you don’t mind me asking . Could you relay to me the costs for a near market comparison in areas familiar to you I would be keen to know. Thank you, and with appreciations JK McNicholl.

Hi, I'm not too sure as I don't have seitan often, but a place called Vegan Munch near me do a huge wrap (probably 3x the size) and that's £8.99. However it's more of a takeaway/fast food place than a sit-down restaurant so not sure it's a fair comparison... (Vegan milkshakes with cream I find actually to be more expensive, nearer £4-5 usually).

Several vegan options!

Really enjoyed this place! Their menu has quite a few vegan options and all of their sauces they offer are vegan. I ordered the "Signature seitan teriyaki" with a salad as well as the "dirty fries". So good! Also try their vegan desserts! They have a variety from chocolate cheesecake to carrot cakes. Their desserts constantly change.

Pros: Great food, Friendly staff

The Hidden City Cafe

The staff were super friendly / kind. The reason I’m giving 3 stars is because I just didn’t feel like the quantity/quality of the food matched the price paid. I was also starving one hour later and had to eat something else, which is super rare for me (I’m also 46 kg…so I don’t need as much as most people). I had the loaded bowl and felt there could have been more seitan and lettuce. For £13, I just expect a little more than something that felt like a side.

In plain sight

What we have here is a very solid, veg first cafe that's centrally located in Derry city.
Menu focuses around seitan, which is a personal favorite.
Got a flatbread plus chips - also dirty fries as the side on a second.
Comprised thin strips of seitan that had been fried alongside a few peppers and onions. In a hoi sin style sauce, more plum tasting than teriyaki in my opinion.
Served quite quickly despite fact cafe very busy.
Coffees were also pretty good.
Only gripe is side of chips was very small, even adding £2 for dirty ones wasn't huge. But quite tasty. Everything seemed decently cooked.
Definitely worth a visit - they've got the idea right, all dishes by default veggie and if you have to eat meat, you pay more. That is what the standard should be.

Pros: Veg default , Lots of options

Cons: Very tiny sides

Awesome options!

Some really great vegan options available here, including lots of specials that can be made vegan (or already are!) we went both days we were in Derry, had the teriyaki seitan and ploughman sandwiches, and then came back for the festive special (also with the house made seitan). Really delicious food, cosy cafe and friendly staff, couldn’t be happier!

A super cosy cafe with an amazing range of vegan breakfast/lunch options! Lots of fresh and healthy salads and sandwiches/wraps (with gluten free options available too), plus vegan cakes and sweet trears! Would definitely recommended, would give 5 stars if Happy Cow would let me!

Amazing salad

Stumbled across this cafe while exploring Derry and was immediately impressed by the healthy choices on the menu, including the build your own salad option. Choose your protein (seitan, chickpeas etc.), choose your grains, dressing. Hearty and satisfying!

50% vegan menu and very welcoming

A wonderful gem up near the city walls, with lovely staff and friendly owner. About half the menu was vegan, and the rest was veggie with a few meat/seafood options.

My wife had the teriyaki seitan sandwich and I had the bangin' bhaji flatbread. Generous portions and very tasty and fresh.

There was a large salad menu and vegan cakes. Other mains included a VLT and a smoked tofu and vegan cheese Ploughman's.

Only serving sandwiches, salad and chips when we went at lunchtime. I imagine there's more hot food in the evening judging by other reviews.

Would be here loads more if I was local!

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Good size portions

Gorgeous hidden gem

Went with family, even the omnis were impressed. Dad even ordered vegan. It's not a fully vegan place but has more for veggies and vegans than it does for meat eaters. I probably wouldn't have been able to convince the family to go if it was fully vegan. I had the mushroom brushetta, dad had seitan kebab, bro had chicken box (there was 2 vegan boxes option also available) and sis had a beautiful banging bhaji in homemade flatbread. So managed to get 2 out of 3 meat eaters to eat vegan!!! Oh, and all the wine and beers are vegan friendly, Loved it, will be back. #Veganuary

Pros: Lots of Vegan options. In fact plant food is the m, Friendly staff, Beautiful interior

Cons: Would give 5 stars if I could, I live too far away

Our favourite Derry cafe

We aren't local but always go to the Hidden City Cafe when visiting Derry. It's my favourite cafe as it has so many vegan options, although not an entirely vegan or veggie place, they really make an effort for vegans.
Examples are some amazing teriyaki seitan, vlt and vegan ploughman's sandwiches, and amazing salads.
I also had a lovely breakfast here (pictured)

Pros: Loads of vegan options
