Wonderful imaginative dishes

Flavorful elegant and yet casual menu with decor to match
No frills and frills at the same time. Sophisticated but not stuffy dishes. From a vegan burger to yummy salads

A nice place that caters for vegan, vegetarian and others

A bright and clean interior with friendly, attentive staff. A separate vegan menu is available on request but all vegan and vegetarian options are clearly defined on the standard menu. A decent selection available and very tasty too!

Delicious vegan food

We came here for a quick lunch while out on a leisurely cycle today and had the sourdough toast with avocado and vegan mozzarella which was really delicious! The vegan options on the menu are really clearly marked (including which wines are vegan) and you can even get a separate vegan menu if you prefer. Really putting in a good effort to be vegan friendly! The service was great too.

Best leisurely lunch in a long while

This restaurant is highly recommended. It's a relaxed neighbourhood bistro near the Botanic Gardens and has a separate vegan menu with genuine choice and genuinely good choices at that. We all had the mushroom, walnut, quinoa and beetroot burger, served with a griddled flatbread. Delicious burger and very good chips. Two of the four puds on the main menu are vegan. I had a really creamy dark chocolate pot. Would definitely return next time I'm in Edinburgh.

Delicious vegan food in this hidden gem

I love Herringbone. Everything from the gorgeous Instagrammable decor to the separate vegan menu and the (yes!) clearly-marked vegan options on the menu.

My husband and I went to try their summer offering and were not disappointed. I had the sweet potato salad to start – I would never have thought to put sweet potato in a summer salad to be honest, but the coriander and avocado made it really fresh and perfect for this time of year. The husband went for the more simple hummus and flatbread, but it was executed brilliantly. The bread was lightly fired and the hummus has a rich beetroot colour with some fried onions for some crunch.

For our main course I opted for the charred aubergine which was served with a hearty “ras el hanout” stew and spelt grains. It was a very generous helping, with the ras el hanout in particular being very rich and comforting. Meanwhile, the husband had one of the most exotic looking burgers we’ve ever seen! The sweet potato and chickpea patty was served on a flatbread with lots of fresh coriander and a generous helping of fries on the side.

With great food and a fantastic vibe, I can't wait to go back to Herringbone.

Amazing

Amazing place if you want to avoid the usual tourist traps! We had big portions for a good price. There is a special vegan menu.
Quality and quantity really satisfied us! And I have a big appetite ! ^^
Deserts are absolutely divine as well.

Pros: Lots of vegan options

Great food

They have a separate vegan menu. Staff were really friendly and accommodating. One small thing was that another waiter tried to take our vegan menus away thinking that it must have been a mistake by our server. It was a bit awkward to have to clarify that we had actually asked for the vegan menu.
We had the chickpea burger and cashew curry - both really delicious. The jackfruit springrolls and kimchi were also really good. The vegan brownie was the only thing that was quite disappointing - more like a sponge cake, and not a good sponge cake. I'd definitely recommend the food overall and will be back to try the cashew cheese board dessert option!

Pros: Good vegan options , Separate vegan menu

Very Very Busy & Understaffed

We went to this place for brunch on a Sunday morning. We were asked if we had a booking ... which we didn’t, hadn’t thought of that for brunch! We were given a table by a harassed looking chap who told us we would have a long wait as they had big tables in.... although one hadn’t been served yet. We we’re eventually given the vegan menu but there were no breakfast options, the dishes had been lifted from the main lunch and dinner menu. After 10 minutes waiting for service so we could ask about it we left and went elsewhere! So we can’t comment on the food. The place appeared very understaffed for the number of covers they were trying to serve. Don’t think we would bother going back as we hate poor service.

Pros: No breakfast vegan options

Cons: Understaffed , Busy , Poor service

delish!

The separate vegan menu has been made with thoughtfulness and care. It was hard to choose what to order because it all looked so good but in the end we went for the sticky cauliflower, chickpea and aubergine burger and sweet potato fries. Can’t wait to come back and try the other options!!

Really vegan friendly!

I emailed in advance to check that there would be vegan options available - and got a super friendly email back saying that they'd just completed a separate vegan menu and that lots of other things on their main menu could be veganized.

When we went (both of us being vegan) they were so friendly and accommodating. Their vegan menu had several mains, starters and desserts and the food was genuinely outstanding. I will be going back asap to try their other vegan options!

Would give it 5 stars if I could, but as it's not vegetarian or vegan, I'm restricted to giving it the 4.

... Also really dog friendly, so bring your pup!

Pros: Lovely staff, Vegan menu, Outstanding food

Cons: On the pricier side maybe
